Sarah Palin, Steve Forbes, and Glenn Beck have all lined up for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the New York-23 race, while Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava suffers from fundraising woes and an all-out attack by at least a dozen conservative organizations.
Those organizations have called for the resignation of Scozzafava, saying her credentials as a conservative are slim to none. The endorsements of Hoffman and the backlash against Scozzafava have thrown the contest further into the national spotlight and solidifying it as a key litmus test for a Republican Party on the rebound.
The coordinated attack by conservative outlets came on the heels of a curveball thrown by Dede Scozzafava herself, after she called the cops on Weekly Standard reporter John McCormack when he repeatedly asked her about her stance on pro-union card check legislation. Scozzafaza has supported card check in addition to the Obama stimulus package, same-sex marriage, cap-and-trade, and abortion rights.
To call Scozzafava a RINO is an insult to RINOs, wrote Matthew Cunningham of Red County in a post titled The NRCC Should Drop-Kick Scozzafava.
The National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) and the Republican National Committee have given cash to Scozzafava and both organizations reiterated their support for the candidate despite widespread conservative outcry.
The NRCC supports the Republican candidates in the general election. Thats our policy in the past and thats our policy moving forward, said John Randall, spokesman for the NRCC.
"This race is a priority, and we continue to support the Republican candidate, said Gail Gitcho, RNC press secretary.
The Washington Examiners editorial board expressed a common reaction to these affirmations.
Donors to the RNC and the NRCC should demand their money back, they wrote.
Conservative critics pointed to the similarities between Scozzafava and Democratic candidate Bill Owens, which is why Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman has made significant inroads in the race. Just yesterday, Hoffman was endorsed by Ken Blackwell, Rep. Michelle Bachman, and former Majority Leader Dick Armey.
McCormack, the Weekly Standard reporter that dealt with the cops after questioning Scozzafava, said the entire race represents an embarrassment to the Republican Party.
Every dollar the NRCC and RNC spend on her is a dollar they could be spending in 2010 on competitive races, he said. And in the exceedingly unlikely even that Scozzafava wins the election, the Republican party would still lose by continuing to be associated with a dishonest politician who calls the police on a reporter for simply asking questions.
Not every conservative was so critical of Scozzafava.
"I would say to every Republican: you have a chance to elect somebody who has signed the no tax pledge; she's endorsed by the National Rifle Association; she is opposed to cap and trade and energy taxes; she is opposed to the Obama health plan; and, she will vote against Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, said Newt Gingrich on TWT Radio. That is a pretty good starting point - even if she is more liberal than I am and on other issues I disagree with her completely."

This woman needs to get a clue and step down. If she did that and Hoffman won - she might a have few admirers. If she stays and the Dem wins then people will hate her with a passion.
Newt would have a point, if she were not so obviously lying about the no tax pledge. She has been quoted as saying the pledge does not bind her at all.
“Scozzafaza Suffers While Hoffman Racks Up The Endorsements”
Yeah, baby!!!!!
Newt has completely lost the plot. Very sad.
This race on the other hand, is exciting and refreshing stuff!
Newt’s lost his mind.
From Red State...
Scozzafava has all the wrong positions for a Republican. She is an abortion supporter, supports same-sex marriage and her hubby is a bigtime union leader. Even worse, groups associated with the criminal, left-wing organization ACORN have endorsed her candidacy not the sort of company a Republican should keep.

Referendum on corruption, both Dems and Repubs.
Boot Newt!
Pray for America
Do we have any polls for this race????
Tone Deaf. Absolutely tone deaf.
Yeah, there’s been a bunch.
Pathetic, isn’t it?
I believe its the opposite. Her liberal stance could divide the votes of the liberals into two, which would allow Hoffman to win. If all Repulicans vots for Hoffman, and let the liberals divided, her role may help Hoffman to win.
Is this a Dem seat? Who is the incumbent in this race? Why is it such a high profile election already for 2010? Is this a special election or something? SORRY FOR MY IGNORANCE BUT SOMEONE HELP ME OUT HERE.
I saw Sarah Palin’s endorsement for Hoffman on Facebook tonight.
You may be right. I had the same thought. I hope that happens. Maybe this has been the plan all along. It sure is Corzine’s game in NJ.
The incumbent was John McHugh who is now Secretary of the Army. The special election will be on Nov. 3rd.
Never mind folks; I found my answer to my Post #14 on another thread about this election. It is a special election.
Rep. John McHugh (D) who won 9 consecutive elections in a District that once was GOP safe, left the House of Representatives on September 21, 2009 to become Secretary of the Army, and Gov. David Paterson declared that Nov. 3 would be the date of a special election to replace him until the 2010 general election.
Thanks.
When the history of this age is written (if ever the truth is allowed the light of day), the feebleness of the Republican leadership will be thought as much the cause of the fall of America, as the willful malice of the National Socialist Democrats. And, that history will be right.
If it wasn’t for the 3rd guy in the race in NJ, Corzine would be history. But, I’m afraid, now, that he will be reelected.
I see you’re up to speed, hopefully Palin’s endorsement will shift momentum to Hoffman.
I realize this race in New York isn't a primary, but haven't there been a lot of primaries lately where the NRCC has endorsed the liberal candidate over the conservative one? That's the real problem. This New York race is merely an audio-visual aid for that same kind of stupidity.
This race has exposed people like Gingrich and others who are content to let the stealth scumbags infiltrate and destroy the party the way they have done in California, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Maine (as well as few other suspicious places like Illinois and Delaware).
Fuc# off newt.
Hi all, haven’t posted in a long time but I read Freerepublic every night going on about 4 years now, and I’m voting for Hoffman.
This is a special election replacing Rep.John McHugh. This has always been a strong republican seat, representing northern and part of central NY. The last poll I saw had Hoffman at about 20%, the rino woman at about 33% and the dem at about 30%. This was before a lot of the endorsements. Problem is many people don’t realize the republican candidate is no better then the dem. I had to explain this to my husband, and we’ve got more people on board that will vote for Hoffman. Hoffman and his big name supporters could pull off a win if they get their message out there. Our local republican committee is pretty conservative, although they usually fall in line with the state committee which is to support the republican candidate. But I have noticed they aren’t plastering the area with her signs like they usually do for the republican candidate, so I’m hoping that is a good sign. Hoffman is on the ballot as an Independent, which I see as a good thing. There is a lot of “vote all the bums out” sentiment around here so voting for a candidate listed as “Independent” might attract some of the more liberal types to vote for Hoffman. On the other hand, there are many people in this district (I have worked on campaigns in the past) that will just blindly pull the republican lever unless Hoffman and his high profile supporters can show them that he is the candidate that holds their values.
Newt should quit politics and get a job selling Geico insurance.
You'll all forever be known as the first district to turn the tide toward sanity in our elected leaders. There is only a narrow window of time left.
...she is opposed to cap and trade and energy taxes...said Newt Gingrich.
So, which is it?
Hoffman is getting into the territory where he’s a significant threat to both. Another 10 percent will be key. If he can get 35 percent, he should be able to win.
As it is, this is the perfect storm for democrats, as the folks on the right are split. Hoffman needs total support to push him over the others.
**Scozzafaza has supported ... cap-and-trade ...
...she is opposed to cap and trade and energy taxes...said Newt Gingrich.
So, which is it?**
YES!!!
said NEWT is Campaign Conversion
The Daily Kook endorsed Scuzzafava.
Email I received: Numerous conservative and anti-tax groups are supporting Hoffman (NY special election). NorthernVirginiaTeaParty does not endorse candidates, but we do hold supposed conservative leaders accountable.
Newt will be signing books at BOOK-A-MILLION, 1451 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA 22101 THIS Saturday, October 24th from 2:00-3:30 PM.
We will be there from 1:30 to 2:30.
We will be there to peacefully and politely attempt to communicate our feelings to him on the way in.
If Newt Gingrich can get away with this without criticism, if Tea Partiers cant stop so-called conservatives from selling out, we might as well give up.
Well bring handouts and signs. If you want to bring one, here are a couple of suggestion - Newt (heart sign) Scozzafava, Newt you know better! Newt sells out conservatives.
Yes. I think they open at 7am on Election day.
The woman is as good a democrat as the official democrat. She may split the liberal vote and give the election to the conservative. I hope and pray it will work out that way.
Scozzafava is endorsed by the NRA (National RINO Association).
Dede...is that even an adult name?
In discussing the question, [Abraham Lincoln] used to liken the case to that of the boy who, when asked how many legs his calf would have if he called its tail a leg, replied, Five, to which the prompt response was made that calling the tail a leg would not make it a leg.
The Democrat must be loving this. He might be the luckiest Democratic Canididate in history.
BTTT
One part says she’s supported cap and trade and Newt says she opposes it. No place in the article, though, says that she or anyone else considers her a conservative.
I would rather have the democrat than her. At least with the Dem in office, I know he’s absolutely not on my side. With Scoz, the only question is when you get knifed, not if you’ll get knifed. As a card carrying liberal, she’ll knife often and deeply.
Really, its using the long term strategy to get the point across. No?
Truth be told, I haven't been keeping that close a track, but it sure seems like. One Liberal is too many in any event. No more compromise with RINOs. They are all take and no give. They will knife you in the back at a critical moment. To Hell with that.
"This New York race is merely an audio-visual aid for that same kind of stupidity."
Yep.
Is Gingrich: DIABLO?
This "(D)" has got to be a typo. I believe if you check further you'll find that McHugh was a Republican with a 71% conservative rating. That's why this is such a big deal - the local GOP party hacks are throwing away a solidly conservative GOP seat and the national GOP party establishment stupidly backed them without doing their research. Now they're too proud to admit they made a mistake.
That's the charitable explanation. I believe it's more accurate to say that the local hacks simply screwed up, but the national GOP hacks see this as an opportunity to marginalize conservatives and put them in their place...
With so much to criticize this woman for, you’re worried about the moniker bestowed on her by her parents (assumably)?
Whoopi Goldberg?
