Unless you use Grecian Formula right before you go in like I did and say you are 49. It worked.

The Army knows my birth date, so that might not work. :), although if I had touched up the little gray I have, it probably would have. I get "dropping jaws", when I tell folks I'll be 60 at my next birthday (which is only 8 days away. :(.

But I prefer the shot anyway. I didn't even have a sore arm afterwords, although my did, to the point that she took some ibuprofen, at least twice, the second time in the middle of the night.

The mercury derived preservative is, I think, the same method that was used in the ‘70s. I do think there's something to the stories we hear about it, but it's a somewhat rare side effect.

I wonder about the big swine flu scare of the ‘70s and how it affects some of us 40s, 50s, and older folks who have had the vaccine.

It seems to me this virus is affecting mostly younger people and just in the last few days a good number of the kids close to my circle have contracted it, including my 4 year old grandson.

What we were initially told about this is that's how it would go down, that it is highly contagious but not a particularly deadly virus. Now I'm hearing locally that everyone who presents “flu like symptoms” is being counted as a H1N1 sufferer. It probably doesn't matter a whole lot who is being counted as what, but for the political implications.

She has feared 0b0z0 doing something like this and then shutting down air travel, Thanksgiving week, malls and stores on Black Friday, (the big shopping day after Thanksgiving).

That's an interesting possibility. I was also wondering if he would use it to prevent people from gathering in church.

I believe most of who care about their health are pro-active. I also use the wipes at the store. However, we can only do so much. Washing our hands a gazillion times a day and the same for your children. I use a lot of bleach around my house. Only 2 of us so makes it much easier. But then company comes and you have to be extremely careful after they leave. ESPECIALLY in the

With all these people being immunized, there is no need for us to worry even if we decline federal immunization. We can not worry and avoid the side effects of the federal vaccine.

Anyone else feel like there’s a scent of desperation coming from the WH with this kind of announcement?

Last week, I went to the doctors to get a pneumonia vaccine.

After they gave me the vaccine, they had me wait outside to see if I had a reaction to it. Well, they had me sit by this man who I heard was there to get an X-ray because he was coughing, had a fever, had a sore throat. When he came to sit by me, I got up and moved. He didn’t even have a mask on.

It’s been over a week, so at least I don’t think I picked up anything from him.

Our doctors’ office (actually a good sized clinic with multiple practices) has stations all over the building with Purell, masks, and so on, that people are supposed to use if they think they have the flu.

If a guy is being X-rayed they're probably checking for pneumonia, and probably because of his particular circumstances - perhaps a transplant patient, HIV sufferer, something like that.

Thanks for the reply. It is important to piece together why this has essentially “suddenly” escalated.

First the kids, the children, are really being hit very hard by this virus. In those subject to the severe forms blood clots are forming in the lungs with death soon following. Keep in mind this is a virus and palliative care is about the best even a hospital can really do.

Second, the vaccine can take up to 3 weeks to become fully effective. I am sort of, of the opinion that the vaccine is way too late to do any sort of real good.

Third, we don't have enough vaccine. That my FRiend seals our fates in my humble opinion.

Fourth, they are talking about triage outside of hospitals to protect those in the hospitals. What if you need to be in the hospital? What if the hospital is full? FEMA camp for you?

Fifth, all of these issues lay the path to a Federal Quarantine.

The truth is if it gets that bad, really that bad and in this case it is a highly contagious really is the only way to handle it.

I've watched many of the virus threads here on FR. I am on the ping lists. One thing is clearly evident during a mass outbreak of anything, the government(s) lies. The numbers are corrupt and the information is sketchy. Don't count on anything in any reported news source. From observation of such events if they are setting up city, state, federal is worse than you realize.

That stated, 0bama will abuse this authority. Watch and see.

The docs aren’t getting more seasonal flu vaccine because there isn’t more. The manufacturing capacity was diverted to making swine flu vaccine.

That’s why we’re so short of seasonal flu vaccine and the swine flu vaccine is going to be distributed too late for half the population.

You can thank all the law suits over children’s vaccines for tanking the U.S. capacity to manufacture vaccines.

scare stories regarding the use of Tamiflu... subterfuge?

All the antiviral meds have potential for significant side effects. Like with many other things you have to weigh the risks of this flu versus the risks of the medicine.

In my case it was no contest. I think any one with asthma would probably have the odds greatly on the side of taking the med.

Take or give the Tamiflu with a small carbohydrate meal, low fat. Like sherbet or Jell-0 or Top Ramen.

That will decrease the likelihood of nausea, etc.

Since our children are high risk for complications, should we keep them out of school because their school is having an H1N1 outbreak.

If the swine flu vaccine is not available for them to take (with the pediatrician's advice, of course), then you should discuss having Tamiflu on hand in case the flu hits when doctor/pharmacy is not available. Starting Tamiflu right away is VERY important.

If anyone tries to force the vaccine on my kids they are all allergic to eggs. :)

That won't work because the H1N1 vaccine was not made in eggs, but in cell cultures.

Just tell them it is against your religion if you are adamantly against your children getting immunized, but then you should seriously consider geting a Tamiflu perscription from their doctor to have on hand to start if they get the flu.

They may treat you with contempt for your position on vaccines, but no one is going to force a civilian to take it. I can't guarantee you won't run into a Nurse Ratchet type who will be overbearing, but that is not official policy anywhere when dealing with civilians.

You are the one who has to live with your decisions and their results, not the medical staff.

if anyone has a solution to plugged up ears as in feeling like you’re going up the mountain and they need to pop please let me know.

Have you tried Robitussin PE?

You may have to show your driver's license to get this sudafed (pseudoephedrine) containing product. That will open up Eustachian tube and the guaifenesin will help liquify mucus so any in your middle ear will drain out the Eustachian tube.

I have tamiflu on hand. In the spring, 20% of their classmates came down with flu. I called and got tamiflu in case my daughter with asthma came down with it. I could only get one prescription of it. My daughter never got sick.

Nice chart you have there, Dr.
Here’s what I’ve found on a preliminary hunt for evidence.
When googling the keywords, “swine flu tracker” or “tracking swine flu” or similar search terms, the first site one sees is from rhizalabs.
So you go to their site, and b/c you know your own BIG, PO’d country pretty well, you might click on the county map, which is here:
ooo-interesting stuff, except it hasn’t been updated since August 18.
And that update was based on H1N1 incidents for July 22.

Back to the search results page you go. And you visit the next site,
swineflu tracker dot net, which is a CDC blog(wordpress).
Well, they don’t actually come out and identify themselves as a couple of overpaid, POS CDC employees(or 0bots) but it is easily deduced after a few minutes of looking around.

On to the hunt, back to the search results page.
By now, you may be interested in real-time data on tracking pig/swine flu, yes?

Well, here you go(or so they say):
Clicking on the BIG, PO’d country at various locations gives you data from April 20s. April? Though there is one from May 2,way out west.

That site also has a possible attempt to harvest email addys, here:

Odd? Check out this part:
Tell your friends about http:\\ so they can be aware when it comes to their neighborhood.
You can email up to 10 friends - each time you add a friend you will get another chance to email another one of your nearest and dearest.

WTF is that? I wonder.

Sorry for the long post, but I’m extremely ticked this weekend.
Anyways, I found a swineflu tracking site with October info,
New England Journal of Medicine

top left corner of site, you have 2 options for H1N1 reports: 1. Informal sources(media) and 2. Official sources(ie WHO, CDC).
Click on option 2 and at bottom of bare big PO’d country is this:
* As of mid-July, reports are no longer available from official channels.

next box, left corner of site is very useful and that’s all I’m saying for now.
Good luck.

I think the only reason they endured longer than the pink flamingoes it that they performed better when you needed something to lock your bicycle to.

Now, if someone could come up with one that had a 130 degrees of motorized jawing, set off by vibration, noise, motion or camera flash detection, you might have a resurgence in the product, especially if an uncorked example of American Iron had the same effect that they do to parked cars....

The real reason the big O has declared a "National Emergency" is simple. Some huge nurse's union is going to strike on the 30th of October. The union will effectively cripple California (the main base of the union), although the union has members throughout the USA. They will strike over safety concerns regarding face masks (to protect them from H1N1), and about the practice of understaffing of nurses at hospitals. Now then, once(or rather if) they go on strike, all the big O has to do is deem it illegal and/or nationalize the nurses---forcing them back to work. In other words, a large segment of healthcare will instantly become federalized---a back door to nationalized healthcare?

I would not recommend doing anything that your doc does not approve of, so if your doc is telling you 2000 per day, I would stick with that. That being is the information:

“1.Take enough Vitamin D3 to get your 25(OH)D level above substrate starvation levels (50 ng/mL or 125 nmol/L). Levels of 50 ng/mL usually require at least 5,000 IU per day for adults, some adults will require more. Children should take 1,000 IU per every 25 pounds of body weight. After taking this dose for 3 months test your 25(OH)D level. Individual variation in dose response is great and natural 25(OH)D levels (50–70 ng/mL) are not assured by these doses. For reasons I will discuss below, I think it possible that Vitamin D levels of 30 ng/mL, which are often obtained by people taking low doses of Vitamin D (1,000–2,000 IU/day), may increase your risk of death from a 1918-like influenza virus.”
(end snip)

I recommend going to the site and reading through the information. I am only going to do it for a few months and then have my levels tested. Hope this helps.
