A report on funding 'accountable' reporting recommends a mix of philanthropy and familiar ideas on levies
THE SKIES grow heavy with portent when a former editor of the Washington Post and a distinguished professor join forces to write aColumbia University report on "The Reconstruction of American Journalism". And the same skies weep, perhaps, over Len Downie and Michael Schudson's complex prescription for funding "accountability" reporting, interwoven with foundations and philanthropists, rather as though exposing corruption in City Hall were the same as subsidising a symphony orchestra. It's a very American, very particular approach.

More socialist sickness. Where does it stop?
A little off topic here but i watched “Network” again yesterday because it had been awhile and i forgot the point. That movie foretold the downfall of the American news media into just another venue of entertainment.
Made me think that we should all agree on a date and time where we stick our heads out the window and shout the famous line from “Network” (see my tagline) in synchronicity.
