The glamorous young wife of Gamal Mubarak, son of the Egyptian president, is set to become the first lady of the Middle East if, as expected, her husband becomes Egypts next leader.
***Gamals 27-year-old wife Khadija, a wealthy society beauty with a business degree from the American University in Cairo, has kept a low profile and refused all interviews since their wedding two years ago. She rarely appears in the glossy magazines that chronicle Cairos elite and is seldom photographed at social events.
That may be about to change if her husband stands for president. In a rare public appearance she was photographed in elegant designer clothes at the World Economic Forum in Sharm el-Sheikh.
She would be a perfect first lady for Egypt, said a businessman friend of her family. She is intelligent, genuinely sweet and knows the world very well. She has class.
A fluent English speaker, she works for her father, Mahmoud el-Gamal, who owns one of Egypts largest construction companies and vast property holdings. At weekends she occasionally plays football at the Gezira Sporting Club, a watering hole on a fashionable island in central Cairo.
The couple married in a lavish private wedding ceremony and live in the wealthy Cairo suburb of Zamalek.
Pressure to sort out the succession has been growing, as rumours circulate about the state of the presidents health. On paper Egypt is a democratic republic, although Mubaraks party has dominated the political scene for decades and the government keeps a tight control over the press and broadcasters.

“Is there a pic?”
Well that’s not a picture of me. I included one as part of the article. Does it not show? It does on my computer.
She looks quite “American”.
Do not think that the Islamist types will approve, although I do.
True, but you will have to admit that Michelle would look great in a burka.
She’ cute but, IMHO, the brunette to her left in that picture is more attractive.
Her dyed hair is incongruous and she should ditch it because the Muslim fundamentalists will ridicule it....Other than that she is a beauty and smart
She looks like Jessica Biel
You don't think Kilmer is pretty?
They'll do more than that. They'll try to stuff her into a burka.
She is proof that many Arab Muslim women are beautiful but when stuffed into burkas they turn into fat stupid cows. I rather make love to a beautiful woman but Muslims don’t think that way
Even better! Thanks.
1. Not guilty! The same for the woman next to her. Middle Eastern women are very pretty when dressed properly.
2. Given that Egypt is a dictatorship, the line from “The Godfather” about the wife not asking about her husbands “business” most certainly applies.
“She has class”
As opposed to our famous First Frump. Sigh.
Waiting for a talented FReeper to place a side-by-side picture...but wait until after lunch...well after lunch...please.
Despite the blonde hair (dyed) she’s Black — mouth & nose a give-away.
Let’s hope that was sarcasm. If not, I suggest you do a little reading in anthropology. The peoples of Egypt, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa (to include Eritrea, the Tigray and Amhara of Ethiopia, and the Somalis) are of Caucasian extraction.
Or, would you prefer giving us your thoughts on Sun People and Ice People?
Whatever their initial extraction ma have beem, there was a lot of mixing with the Nubians et al, The woman is a sefici type of white/negro mix that is South Ameirca is called “jabada”. It’s something I’ve seen a lot, so I recognize it.
I think your last statement just about proved that you’re quite the uneducated racist and/or a troll attempting to stir something up.
Spare me your commentary on “a lot of mixing” between Egyptians and the Nubians. Nubia, in the context of Ancient Egypt, tends to refer to the northern portion of Sudan which is, again, of Arab (Caucasian) extraction. “Mixing”, accordingly, means little difference anthropologically. It is in the Sud, the great swamp area in Southern Sudan, where non-Caucasians are to be found — and, this female bears little resemblance to Dinka or Nuer tribals.
Your comments about “jabadas” is inapplicable, as Egypt is not in South America and doesn’t have the mix of races as seen in South America. All of this is a long way of saying that you’re classifying something based solely on your prejudices and not anything remotely resembling logic or reality.
I don’t see why commenting on physical or racial attributes is racist. WOuld it be racist to comment on how much COnan O’Brien looks like the presdient of Finalnd and tht it’s robably due to Viking ancestry?
Have you been to North Africa and the Mid-East? I have been there, traveling with South Americans of African descent who were constantly mistaken for being local.
