Dan Rather Hailed for 'Courage' at University of Texas; Rather Bashes Fox 'Propaganda'
newsbusters.org ^ | Oct. 25, 2009 | Tim Graham

Posted on 10/25/2009 6:34:25 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Disgraced CBS anchorman Dan Rather continues to make the rounds, trying to rehabilitate his image and paint himself as a man wronged by an overcorporatized, politically neutralized media structure. That's no longer surprising. But why would schools of journalism gloss right over his embrace of fabricated National Guard records in 2004? Viviana Aldous at The Daily Texan reported on Rather's Thursday appearance at the University of Texas in Austin:

“Journalism continues to weather its profound changes as it transits into its digital future,” said Tracy Dahlby, director of the School of Journalism. “Rather has spent six decades getting the job done, telling people things they need to know about their world they otherwise wouldn’t. He’s done it with courage, style, wit and occasionally the controversy that [often] comes [with being a] journalist.”

Is Tracy Dahlby really expressing an opinion, or just taking politeness to an embarrassing extreme? But at least Dahlby didn't call Rather the "world's best journalist," as odd as that sounds:

Austinite Kenneth Hiller, who graduated from UT in 1980 with a bachelor’s in journalism, said Rather is the world’s best journalist, despite accusations of liberal bias.

“Anyone in the media who doesn’t go along with the governmental line automatically gets called a liberal, especially if a Republican president is in office,” Hiller said. “With Rather, that started with Nixon and Watergate. He was just being a good journalist.”

Why am I not surprised. It is as if that fake memo never existed and that Rather in his desire to see Kerry(Or any Democrat by any name)knowingly presented it as fact in the last few days of a presidential election.

It used to be that the press reported and let the chips fall where they may. The fourth estate has become just another whores on a lost list of whores pimping the liberal agenda.

“Anyone in the media who doesn’t go along with the governmental line automatically gets called a liberal, especially if a Republican president is in office,” Hiller said.

Is Hiller living in a f**king box? No wonder this person is working in journalism.

“With Rather, that started with Nixon and Watergate. He was just being a good journalist.”

And if Obama was in office, Watergate wouldn't be considered news and anyone reporting it would face investigations from other media outlets.

DFU SONGS | 11-2005 | Lyrics, Doug from Upland

<

MIDI - MORE THAN A FEELING

She woke up one morning and her job was gone
Suits in the boardroom said go away
The docs were phony the FReepers showed
For her and Dan it's a bad hair day

(musical break)

She was sent reeling...she tried to hurt Dubya
Her dirty dealing...had been stopped, and she started to cry
But watch Mary Mapes...still telling lies

(musical break)

So many people she had deceived
Hatred of Bush made them blind with rage
She's claiming that she...did nothing wrong
And she is stuck on the same old page

On the same old page

(musical break)

She was sent reeling...she had tried to hurt Dubya
Her dirty dealing...had been stopped, and she started to cry

“U of Texas is lost to liberals.”

Only the subjective programs. The hard sciences, anything objective, politics don’t come into play there. And they have some if the best (if not THE best) of those programs.

What park bench is Danno hanging out at these days?

How great is it to see this POS go down in disgrace and then sue the network full of scum who enabled him and had no choice but to fire him.

God, if there was an Internet and Rush Limbaugh in 1968 after Tet, Walter Cronkite might have been thrown out on his treasonous ass.

And another thing.

For a long time, until he got called on it, Rather told the lie that he was a Marine, when in fact, he washed out of boot camp.

I spent eight years in the Marine Corps. Rather isn’t fit to shine the shoes of any of the men I served with.

Rather only got famous because he happened to be in Dallas reporting for a local CBS affiliate when JFK got killed and not because he was such a great reporter in my opinion.

Well that makes sense. Back in the 90’s our boys were making an amphibious landing at night (dark outside so the bad guys can’t see you) when they were met on the beach by cbs and I believe dan rather. They had lit up the beach like Christmas with their lights. If I had been the senior NCO on that beach, there would have been a lot of dead lights that night.
Washed out of boot? Wow. Probably because of his attitude.

He also got noticed back in the early 60s doing hurricanes. IIRC he was in Houston when Carla hit in 1961.

Tim Rutten writes in the Los Angeles Times . . . that Dan Rather's lawsuit against CBS is an act of ego.
His opening line:
Dan Rather took the best seat in the house that Murrow built and then left the place a ruin.
Now he has returned to torch the rubble.

Dan Rather took the best seat in the house that Murrow built and then left the place a ruin.
Now he has returned to torch the rubble.

Sweet!

Even Murrow, who was 100 times the journalist Rather was, was to an extent, a phony who had no compunctions about advancing the libtard agenda by any means necessary-fair or foul—and back then, it was all so easy to do. And since the country hadn’t actually been ruined yet by the libtards, Murrow and his band of do-gooders could pull their crap, get to feel nice and smug about it, and not have to suffer unintended consequences.

He could call for integration, for example-but the only blacks he ever came in contact with were servants. God forbid any lived near him-or went to school with his kids.

Hell, even Murrow’s name is phony—his first name was actually Egbert—Egbert Roscoe Murrow, I believe.

“Fake, but accurate.” Dan courageously held his ground in the face of overwhelming evidence that the documents were fake.

Leftists, and there are a bunch at UT, do not care about truth. What they care about is toeing the party line. And no one has exemplified that more than Dan. Congratulations, Dan, among all the Leftist liars, you are a standout.

Clinical journalism professor Wanda Cash encouraged her students to attend the lecture because Rather provides excellent context for what journalists do, she said.“He wanted to be true so deeply that he may have forgotten the most important part of the journalistic creed: verification,” Cash said about the documents.

He "may have forgotten." This from a journalism professor.

Lady, if you are going to teach your students to be propagandists, get with the program. Tell them it is their moral duty to lie to serve the "higher good," but that they should not get caught. That's your only problem with Dan Rather. Not that he lied, but that he got caught.
