Three Babies Aborted Every Day Due To Down's Syndrome [Nazi Germany?]

Three Babies Aborted Every Day Due To Down's Syndrome Three babies are being aborted every day due to Down's syndrome, according to a study which shows the number of terminations has more than trebled in the last 20 years.

By Rebecca Smith, Medical Editor and Chris Irvine 26 Oct 2009

An increasing number of pregnant women are being told their babies have the condition because of a growing number of women putting off having children until their 30s and 40s and improvements in screening, doctors say.

And around nine in ten women who are told they are going to have a baby with the problem opt for a termination.

The research shows that around 1,100 babies in England and Wales are aborted every year because of Down's syndrome, an increase from 300 in 1989/90.

The findings have led Down's syndrome support organisations to call for greater counselling to help parents make the right decision for them.

They say that having a child with Down's can be rewarding and that the quality of life for those suffering from the condition has improved.

However, doctors say that women must make the decision according to their circumstances, and that some may be better placed financially to deal with it than others.

Prof Joan Morris, professor of medical statistics who carried out the research at Queen Mary, University of London, said: "We are getting more pregnancies with Down's syndrome because women are having their babies older and because we are screening more accurately and screening more women, there are more terminations.

"It is important that women have the full information. There is a group of women out there who don't want screening because they would not terminate anyway and that is a good thing if that is what they want."

How many of these screenings result in false positives?

Doesn’t matter, many Down’s Syndrome folks lead productive lives. And even if they don’t they should have the right to live. ;-)

My sister has Down's Syndrome. I don't believe that it deserves a death sentence, even if the parents are Democrats. I'd tell your besetting devil to take a hike before you post such nonsense.

I wonder what weasal words, instead of eugenics, Planned Parenthood types say about this. At least Sanger would of been upfront this is exactly what she wanted.

... false positives ...

That’s what my cousin went through with the maternal serum alpha fetal protein test. They were 35 and knew this would be their only child. Did not have amniocentesis. They went ahead with the pregnancy. He did not have Downs.

Because of their experience, we skipped all screenings with all pregnancies even though we were in our 30s. The odds of a false positive were high and the chances of miscarrying after amnio was higher than finding a Downs baby. Not worth the risk.

I volunteer (on my own because it’s the right thing to do, not to please Obama) with handicapped childen and most Downs kids I’ve worked with have great personalities and great attitudes.

I have first hand experience with this. I got pregnant for the first time at age 40. I had cobra insurance and was well covered, but qualified for WIC due to the other circumstances. The physician was from England. After it was confirmed that I really was pregnant, she sat me down in her office and insisted that I have an amniocentesis. And if the baby was deformed in any way, that I should seriously consider an abortion.

She was adamant. God took care of the entire deal. My baby had died inside me long before I ever met that doctor. But the baby was carried for 3 months and it was only when the heartbeat was never found, that this Dr. pounded on my stomach that it dislodged the baby and I passed it.

I wanted to make sure she had not had a hand in the loss, but the timing was such that I know when it died and it was a good 30 days before I went to the Dr.

What I want to say is that this is has been going on for some time now. I lost mine in August of 1989.
