Allow me to take a card from President Barack Obamas playbook and recant a former message. No, not that former President George W. Bush is the source of all things going wrong, including the Chicago Bears and Cubs being awful sports teams, European antagonism and the swine flu. The message I wish to repeat is Obamas presidency so far has been a failed one.
First let us consider that apparently this H1N1 situation is a national emergency. Yet the administration has failed to present any evidence to back this announcement. Their buddies in the media can do nothing but repeat the mantra of terror being spread through the swine flu, but where is the information that gives such statements credibility?
The numbers actually state many more people die from the seasonal flu each year than have the swine flu this year, as reported by many news outlets including CNN. And were in a supposed state of emergency? The only thing emerging is our presidents irresponsibility and irrationality.
Speaking of which, when will our dear president make a decision about troops in Afghanistan? A host of voices, including Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Four-star General Stanley McChrystal agree the president should decide soon. McChrystal, the commander of the troops in Afghanistan the supposed arena in which Obama wishes to attain victory the most insists 40,000 more soldiers be added to the fight for that victory to be possible.
Yet while stating he wishes not to waffle and waste time, Obama is postponing this decision and waffling and wasting time while American soldiers needed for the fight are withheld and those in it are experiencing a decline in morale.
Meanwhile, what is holding our Washington leaders attention? Its not global warming because he has denied going to a summit on that issue in order to push two things: public-option health care and his irresponsible war with Fox News.
To cut a foolish argument short, this public-option health care business is simply illogical. What are the biggest two proponents for it? To create competition and counter those evil insurance companies and to provide for the portion of society that cannot provide for itself.
To answer the first, there are about 1,600 private insurance companies that allow for competition in the free market in this nation. It is ironic the same numerically challenged, IRS-evading group that pushed foolishly for the stimulus package is denying 1,600 separate companies is enough for one country.
To the idea these companies are comprised of evil, capitalizing elitists my response is, in a sense, Yes. Their main goal is to make money, but I think responsible citizens will find it far less likely to feel antipathy to them.
And as to this war he has enacted against Fox that has manifested itself with the pseudo-intellect of Robert Gibbs calling them out, how foolish can he be? Is this the hope and change you voted for the United States? Is this the post-modern, post-racial, post-partisan president the majority voted for? Or is this the far left, divisive and antagonistic president many on Fox actually called him out to be.
More it seems would agree with the latter as his popularity has taken as sharp a drop as a presidents ever has, going from 79 percent in January to 52 percent currently according to the Gallup poll.
Ten months into this administration, what are we left with if not increased political, social and economic tensions? I beg anyone to answer how these things fulfill the promises of hope, change and utopia that seemed certain only one year ago. If the futility is so absolute and definite so soon, will anything change for the better? Or is this how we can expect the proceeding years to happen?
I would assert there will be no improvement and we must ride out this unfortunate storm. Hopefully without too much digression.
eh, two out of three
Since you used student writing and bad in the same sentence go over and read the first comment. Prepare to fall out of your chair.
Already did. LOL
While perhaps not bad for a piece of student writing, the author and editor failed to catch a couple of glaring mistakes.
“The numbers actually state many more people die from the seasonal flu each year than have the swine flu this year”
I think the author means more people die from seasonal flu each year than WILL DIE FROM swine flu this year.
Then in discussing the public option in health care: “What are the biggest two proponents for it?”
A proponent is a person making an argument, not the argument itself.
Also, in the 1st sentence he misused the word “recant”, which means to take back. Either he meant “recount”, meaning to re-address or go over, or he simply thought “recant” meant to repeat himself.
What I thought was funny was that Obama IS known for recanting his former statements, so I was expecting the author to take back something he said earlier.
