Albert Camus was expert at describing a man apart, an existential man The Stranger, who didnt belong in the society in which he found himself. He didnt have emotional roots; in fact, this character was haunted by shadows -- the real and the metaphorical. He is the quintessential rebel challenging normative standards.
At the risk of drawing literary comparisons, I am persuaded based on his performance that President Obama is a man apart. He seems to equate power with arrogance; pride with willfulness and exceptionalism with dominance. As a consequence, he has changed foreign policy perceptions. The America he leads is a nation like any other -- no more, no less. In fact, as a Nobel laureate, he is considered by the Europeans as a man of the world, not merely a citizen of the United States.
When asked if the United States is exceptional, President Obama said America is exceptional and England is exceptional and Greece is exceptional. That the United States is sui generis didnt cross his mind. How could it? He is pledged to a scenario in which America opts out of its traditional role as peace keeper, the balance wheel in maintaining international equilibrium. The war against terrorists is over along with the nations hegemonic role.

Greece hasn’t been exceptional since before the time of Christ.
Exactly. Obama does not see himself as an American. I hesitate to guess how he sees himself; however, he preens and performs as if he is a God of the entire world.
Unfortunately, that may take a while as he's stuck on 70.
That's the understatement of the century.
And he picks up his football bat.
Not quite Michael Jordan, though.
Where the hell would he have gotten that experience?
First ten years of his life in Indonesia (in a muslim culture) and the next eight in Hawaii listening to Uncle Frank.
By the time he came to the mainland, Obama's character or lack thereof was cast.
Not only does Obama have NO leadership experience PERIOD, he's trying to lead a country he doesn't even know.
He's an outsider, just as is Soros, his primary benefactor. They are both trying to create a world that exists only in their imagination.
The Obama Presidency will end in a train wreck because his pollyanna vision for America (apologizes to PollyAnna) will soon collide with reality...
...and reality is the a freight train to Obama's Prius.
“a basketball player who has been asked to bat”
Seems more like a one legged man in an ass kickin’ contest.
Obama was remembered as a back-up forward who would argue with the coach during games. He had no friends.
This is adding a degree of complexity and depth that simply isn’t there. The guy’s not much more than a fashion model, a black Zoolander. Everything’s about striking a pose. The real POTUS is the dem party itself...the presidency is now a collective leadership. No one will say such a thing about Obama because he’s black.
“At the risk of drawing literary comparisons, I am persuaded based on his performance that President Obama is a man apart.”
For my money, the literary comparison is Chauncy Gardener from “Being There”.
“For my money, the literary comparison is Chauncy Gardener from Being There.”
Except Chauncy did not need teleprompter props or the handlers.
Both were ignorant but at least Mr. Gardiner spoke his own thoughts and acted upon them. Zer0 speaks other’s thoughts and they have no bearing to his actions.
You know you are right - good catch. Bammy is dumber than Chauncy.
