Further evidence of a widening split between a true conservative like Cheney and a dufus like “Double-PeeYew” Bush. Double-PeeYew is a Rick Perry, tried and true, double secret bonafide supporter!

"Is there anyone else better to endorse for that race?"

For the US Senate seat she is vacating: Michael Williams (though perhaps he should drop that photo with Newt from his home page!)

This will be a special election in May or June.

Who to vote for? Conservative Debra Medina if she can get traction and then Rick Perry. KBH is a RINO.

“Very disappointing.

Indeed. For all the talk that Cheney is such a ‘conservative’, he did some things that didn’t gel with that theory...like Mary Matlin...I mean c’mon, she sleeps with the enemy. And Cheney’s domestic policy advisor was a guy named Cesar Conda...one of the biggest open border proponents around who worked tirelessly to defeat Prop. 187 in California. When he left Cheney, he went to work for Soros.

Very bad move Dick. Kay Bailey is a RINO through and through.

No need to make any illusions about Cheney. We may like his style and foreign policy, but Cheney IS liberal on social issues such as Gay marriage.

He is not “Mr Conservative”.

Perry.

Not perfect but MUCH better than Hutchison (who is kiss-kiss with Democrats, anti-life, pro-Obama, pro-Porkulus, viciously anti-Palin).

People have ALWAYS made the mistake of considering Cheney (or anyone else) a conservative just because he is “strong” on defense.

Cheney is NOT a conservative in the “limited government” sense of the word and Im not sure that he ever was. Ive actually warned people on here not to idolize the man just because of his stance on the military and national security.

Now, because he was put on a pedestal by certain folks we are going to have to knock him down and risk damaging the area he was having a positive effect (attacking the administration on their national security stances).

conservative.

I hope not, but these days I’m almost afraid to find out. I’ve had such respect for him and his wife. Perhaps the endorsement is a product of an old friendship. Whatever, KBH lost me with her craveness about illegal aliens.

Did you miss the sarcasm? The post was meant to reflect an obvious Bush (who seems content to let Cheney do all of his heavy lifting) affection for Hutchinson over Perry. If you'll do a little research you'll discover that Bush didn't really cotton much to his successor in the Texas's governor's chair (I would hope he holds the same regard to his successor in the White House; BTW, he's given him a lot more praise than he's ever heaped on Perry).

That's the problem around here. Some of us expect to find perfect human beings here on earth and it's not going to happen.

I don't care who Cheney endorses, or doesn't endorse, he's still a GREAT American.

We need to be a bit more forgiving of allies.

I don't think she's a "conservative"! I believe she's a "compassionate conservative" in the TRUE Bush vein...My ideal of a "conservative" is RR, someone who served his country in unstinted and stellar public service, yet established no political family dynasty (Bush, Kennedy) and wore a uniform in time of national need (unlike the example of Cheney, who received 5 deferments during Vietnam yet was able to pass himself off as a defense "hawk"). /RANT

I love Cheney. He’d be a great, and has been a great, Secretary of Defense. Or Secretary of State.

I even think he’d be a great president.

He’s strong on defense, and thats what we need right now.

But despite what the press may say about him, he’s not really all that conservative, certainly not a social conservative.

So I’ll respectfully disagree with him on Hutchinson. He may be supporting her because he likes her on a personal level, which is understandable. Whatever. I like the guy a lot but that doesn’t mean I agree with every last word out of his mouth.

-—”Well, I guess we can all start trashing that RINO Cheney now.”-—

Yup, because everything he has ever done for us is now forgotten since he endorsed a “RINO.” Plus, he's for gay marriage, AND he held a fundraiser for a Pro-Iraq-War DEMOCRAT while still in office!.......I mean, the list is ENDLESS if you dig deep, cherry-pick, and have a relentless memory and keep a scorecard!

Heck, besides Reagan, what elected official in our lifetimes has done more to advance the Conservative cause than Newt Gingrich - and SUCCESSFULLY so? Yet if you read FR, he'd might as well be endorsing Mao for President of the U.S. by backing a person he knows and likes who won the Party nomination for the NY Congressional seat.

Everything Newt has ever done for the Conservative moment - which is quite a lot, second only to Reagan among elected officials - is all forgotten. Now it's time for him to “go away,” “go to hell,” blah, blah, blah...........did I mention he once tried to work with the opposition leader to achieve compromise legislation? I mean if he were a REAL Conservative, the moment Nancy Pelosi walked into the same room as him, he would have spit in her face and left the room - heck, the whole city - in protest!

So I guess it's time to say goodbye to Dick Cheney's good graces. Sorry, Mr. V.P., I like you - but the scorecard now reads more than three transgressions, which means you're officially a RINO - heck, maybe a full-blown Liberal - for your heinous crimes!

Newt, Cheney — let's see, what other successful Conservative leader can we excommunicate now?.......

REMEMBER THIS, FELLOW TEXANS:

“One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchison’s amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.” http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/43422
