President Barack Obama today signed and celebrated hate crime legislation that extends protection to people based on sexual orientation, sealing a long-fought victory to gay advocates. The president spoke of a nation becoming a place where "we're all free to live and love as we see fit."
The new law expands federal hate crimes to include those committed against people because of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. It also loosens limits on when federal law enforcement can intervene and prosecute crimes, amounting to the biggest expansion of the civil-rights era law in decades.
"No one in America should ever be afraid to walk down the street holding the hands of the person they love," Obama said in East Room reception, surrounded by joyous supporters. "No one in America should be forced to look over their shoulder because of who they are, or because they live with a disability."
Civil rights groups and their Democratic backers on Capitol Hill have tried for a decade to expand the hate crimes law, but fell short because of a lack of coordination between the House and Senate, or opposition from President George W. Bush. This time, the bill got through when Democrats attached it to a must-pass $680 billion defense measure over the protests of Republicans. Obama signed the combined bill in a separate ceremony earlier today.
Conservatives have opposed the legislation, arguing that it creates a special class of victims and could serve to silence clergymen or others opposed to homosexuality on religious or philosophical grounds.

Obama is such a sick and worthless bastard....
You nailed it. A sick and perverted bastard who’s goal is to destroy traditional America. And his self hating American Democrat allies are doing the heavy lifting for him.
Punishment of thoughtcrime is now seen as a hallmark of freedom. Unfortunately, these are some highly interesting times we’re living in.

it would be the partS, not part. it would not be difficult to chain this together with ever loosening liability rules to produce a class action against all who preach this is evil.
A closet queer. Why else would he pick such a manly looking woman?
However, we have had 16 years of “hate crime” laws and I don't think anyone has been charged with a hate crime for speaking out against a racial, ethnic or religious group.
To add insult to injury, they claim they’re doing it as an exercise in “regulating commerce among the several states”.
It’s considered as an axiom that religious groups will disagree amongst themselves, and that it is in very bad taste to criticize somebody on account of his race. And neither one goes around with nearly as large a chip on his shoulder than the fags do.
Free to live and love as we see fit... what if my amorous attraction is goats?
Only the terminally naive don't know this is the next step
AKA instrumentalism
Just my guess, however I suspect that "hate crime" legislation has little to do with those "protected" and everything to do with enabling trial lawyers to ruin people with predatory lawsuits.
.
You got that right....now I only wonder where are all those Black Baptists that voted in favor of Prop 8 last year, and also supported Zero just cause he’s black!!!
Can I still call homosexuals bone smuggling, rump riding, salami swallowing, fags and sodomites on FR? Or aam I breaking the law?

and mud pumpers and butt burglars and .....
As those who know me well know, I'm a regular in the Canteen which supports and pays tribute to all of our men and women at home and abaord who are risking their lives on the battlefields for the freedoms we used to enjoy.
I say used for obvious reasons.
I have family and friends in the military and Ft. Sill is not very far from where I live.
However, I have to tell you that were I in Congress right now I would have voted against the defense bill for the very reason that it contained this absolute travesty.
What the Democrats did here was not only despicable but criminal as well. There are clearly some elements in Washington D.C. who obviously have a chip on their shoulders when it comes to the military as well as christians.
I'm not saying we should legislate morality or pry into people's bedrooms. But if I or my pastor or anyone wanted to call a spade a spade in this case, I think we should be able to without having to worry about having law enforcement visit our houses and giving us lectures about how what we're saying is hate speech and we're now on a watch list and all that nonsense.
Take a look at what is going on in places like Great Brittian and Canada for example. You don't think these things are big deals? try telling that to the old lady in one of those Great Brittan communities who was paid a visit by the local police becuase she dared to protest a "gay pride parade" in her city.
She was paid a visit by two police officers. One of whom was sitting opposite her and lecturing her as if she were a bad girl. The other officer was standing in the other side of the room from where the old lady sat and wouldn't sit down. Yes, the old lady was shaken up about all this. I would be too if that were me.
Yes I do have a problem with how the Dems handled this. If you're going to pass a "hate crimes" bill do it in a separate piece of legialation. The military and "hate crimes" have nothing whatsoever to do with each other. Don't go and act like a bunch of clowns and goonies and force people to choose between the values of thir constituents and supporting the military.
What happened here has only served to justify the tremendous animoisty that exists between our "elected officials" and the very people they're supposed to be representating. I can tell you that revolutions have happened in the past because of things far less egregious than this.
And let just say a big thumbs up to our entire congressional delegation here in Oklahoma including Democrat congressman Dan Boren who chose to side with the values that our great state holds by voting against this monstrosity.
The Democrat party is a criminal enterprise and needs to be put out of business.
Regards......
Silencing ministers is what the Canadians use their “hate crimes” law for. It’s also what the Canadian Muslims used to prosecute Mark Steyn.
