I’ve seen less frightened deer in my headlights than those shots of Jeter and A-Roid in the dugout.

NEW YORK — Chase Utley has set a postseason record by reaching base in 26 straight games.

The Philadelphia Phillies’ All-Star second baseman walked against New York Yankees starter CC Sabathia in the first inning of Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday night. Utley homered in the third and sixth innings to put Philadelphia ahead 2-0.

Utley went 0-for-4 in his first playoff game in 2007. He has since reached base safely via a hit or walk in every postseason game he has played.

Baltimore’s Boog Powell held the record of 25 straight games from 1966-71.

Pressure is on for NYY and AJ Burnett tonight. I am rooting for NY, but like the Phillies a lot. Great group of players. As much as I didn’t want to see it, Cliff Lee pitched a legendary game last night. NYY really has their season all but on the line tonight. Otherwise, they will need to take at least 2 of 3 in Philly and then come back and win any game 6-7 at home. They have the capability to do that if it goes that way, but Phillies are a tough bunch and are unlikely to fade.

I'd love to see that. I simply can't stand any team that has A-Roid playing for them.

Pedro gets off on the Yankees fans..It motivates him..I think he pitches a great 6 innings..the Phils get to Burnett..which keeps Rivera in the bull pen...the real question is can the Philly bull pen do the job..if they implode..then it’s a tough series for the Phils..

As a Red Sox fan , nothing would make me happier than to see the Yankees choke again. Waking up this morning(I fell asleep in the 7th inning) and finding out that the Phillies won 6/1 last night was almost as good as if the Sox had won.
I have nothing against the Yankees players except Damon.
They are all great. However, the Yankees organization is the EVIL EMPIRE.
Pedro will lose tonight. Phillies win series. I hope.

Yes, the Yankees seemed really uptight and the Phils seemed relaxed, esp. Cliff Lee. In the post game interview on Comcast, Cliff Lee says he never gets nervous for games, even one as big as this one. Said it’s been a life long dream ever since he was a little kid to pitch in the World Series. So why would you be nervous when you’re fulfilling a lifelong dream? He has nerves of steel, that’s for sure.

Martinez pitched a great game against the Dodgers and it was controversial when Charlie took him out and the bullpen blew the game. I think he’ll have his good stuff. It’s not supposed to be real cold (they say he hates cold).

It really surprised me to see the stadium empty out after about the 7th inning. I would have thought the “legendary” Yankees fans would have stayed until the last out. But they skedaddled.

I don’t think Phillies fans would scoot like that. At least I know I wouldn’t.

Phils bullpen made for some nail biting moments against LA, but in the end, they made the outs needed. You can count on the fact that they will NOT make it look easy.

Ditto - I'm rooting for a Philadelphia team for the 1st time since the 1983 76ers were playing the Lakers in the Finals.

If there was going to be a riot in Phily over a Championship, it would have been last year(1st one in 25 years). Instead, they had a little party with 2-Millions people celebrating the Phillies last year, without incident. Well, ahandful of arrests for public drunkenness, but can you blame them?

Aren’t there also riots when the local team loses? I think I remember some breaking out in Oakland when Raiders lost a Super Bowl. In fact:

2003:
http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/01/27/1043534004519.html

>>Police in riot gear responded with tear gas after rowdy crowds set cars on fire and threw rocks and bottles at passing vehicles following the Oakland Raiders’ upset 48-21 Super Bowl loss to Tampa Bay. Oakland was the scene of repeated running skirmishes between police officers and crowds tonight. At least two cars were set on fire, and a television news van had its windows broken.
One group of young men set debris on fire in the middle of a street and then posed for news photographers.

Was listening to a broadcast during the series against The Dodgers. One of the commentators said that they were staying on the twelfth floor of their hotel in Philly and heard a commotion outside. Turned out to be a group of Philly "fans" shouting obscene abuse at The Dodgers.

He also told a story about the early days at the current Phillies' ballpark. The home team elected to take the higher level bullpen, but received such abuse from their own fans during the first game that they decided to give the upper level to the visiting team.

Ah..the sporting life!

And Philadelphia would be different than any other city who has won a championship of any kind HOW?

Compared to the lakers fans here in CA, last years celebration in Philadelphia was like watching seniors play shuffleboard.

I notice your home state is Florida. Can you enlighten us as to how you have become the defacto expert on rioting in Philadelphia with the exception of utube?

Or is it that you take some 25-30 year old rumors, half truths and innuendo about a handful fans and paint the entire fan base with the same brush?

I agree. I love watching Fox Sports because of their camera work; it’s the best. They showed Posada giving signs to CC just before the threw the 2nd HR pitch to Utley last night. It was great; I saw “heater low & in” and when it trailed over the plate I knew Utley was going to get good contact. Never put the ball low over the plate to a lefty. But yeah, nobody covers a game like Fox.

They also had great shots of Lee’s grip as he went into the windup. You could tell he was in total control; when he caught that ball behind the back it was night where he could do no wrong.

Going into this series I thought the Phillies had the bats to put four games out of reach of Rivera (and Lidge, too). I still think that. Their offense is more explosive than the Wankees.

So instead of answering any of my questions to you, you begin to compare apples and oranges. Tampa and Philly as cities don’t compare.

But you know what, I really don’t care. There’s always someone trying to bring everyone else down with something that has absolutely no bearing on the subject posted. That’s what you’re doing.

Sad life.

Looks like a pitching duel early on.

Teixera pops up between first and second on the infield. The first baseman got under it but as the ball moved, the second baseman took over and made the play. It wasn’t an easy play as even the second baseman made a bit of a lunge at it to make the play.

Three out. After one complete inning 0/0.
