Average Americans

Contrary to what my title indicates, I probably judge Barack Obama more harshly than most reading this. I don’t think he is just a misguided ideologue or merely a creature of expediency. I believe, practically speaking, that he is an evil man. That is to say, while he is largely ignorant like so many others, he has developed an affinity for evil. He mistakes it for good.

Yet, Obama doesn’t alarm me as much as the average American. To explain why, I’ll present something Roman philosopher and statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero said 2000 years ago when lamenting Julius Caesar’s rise to dictator:

Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss of freedom and danced in his path and gave him triumphal processions . . . . Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the 'new, wonderful good society' which shall now be Rome's, interpreted to mean 'more money, more ease, more security, more living fatly at the expense of the industrious.' Julius was always an ambitious villain, but he is only one man.
Barack Obama is only one man. A bad man, yes, but he is a symptom more than a cause. Without millions of fawning Americans, he would just be a community agitator, preaching Alinsky principles from a soapbox. Of course, he is a symptom that exacerbates the underlying problem, and symptomatic treatment — to ease immediate pain and hardship — is certainly in order. But it is only the worst of physicians who ignore the cancer eating away at the patient.

AMEN! Without brainless sheeple, none of these evil political hacks would ever get elected, or stay elected long enough or in sufficient qty to do any harm.

Ok, I’ll bite! Have agreed with your premise for oh...40+ years. In working with our youth at Church, I still have hope. Some great kids out there....but is there enough safe time?

No matter how much I read his work, Cicero's wisdom still amazes me in both its insight and in how, thousands of years later, it can be used to understand the political system in a Republic that wasn't even a twinkle in the eyes of man.

The man literally invented the root word of today's "moral" to describe to his fellow countrymen a way everyone should behave, above and beyond his own self interest. Before him, there wasn't a word for the concept of morality; he literally created it, along with "quality" "individual" "vacuum" "infinity" "notion" and "comprehension."

Our education system would be much improved if he were required reading for every child.

This is why I have no empathy or kindness for anyone who voted for Barack Obama. As far as I am concerned they placed a bullet in the chamber and shot at the heart of our country claiming hope and change as robots unwilling to look at the facts staring them in the face.

I see them as the traitors. I see them as the people who hate America and her values if not filled with complete and utter ignorance. I see them as people that take all that we have as Americans for granted.

You can bet as I meet family during the holidays as I already have that voted for him I will cut them no slack but just reiterate how he is destroying our country and it was because people didn't do their jobs as citizens and allowed themselves to be snookered by a charlatan as they projected what they wanted to see upon this hateful, unqualified disaster. I love my country and God over family. Period.

When the Nobel was awarded, I thought it was funny that folks could get so up in arms that 5 leftist Norwegians gave O an honorary prize — when 60 or 70 million Americans had already given him the most important position we have.

Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man,
the People have abdicated our duties;
for the People who once upon a time handed out military command,
high civil office, legions — everything,
now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses

I couldn’t agree more! Never more than when I see unemployment figures skyrocketing in the “blue states”. No sympathy here.

"Without brainless sheeple, none of these evil political hacks would ever get elected"

These people are far from brainless and include supporters such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.

They are evil at worst and indifferent at best.

We know a lot more about the First Century BC than we do about many later centuries, and what I know scares me. It was one long war between competing oligarchs who occasionally got together and then went to war again. My greatest fear is that Obama will lead to a reaction like what happened in Chile, or in Spain We need serious men to oppose Obama, who is very much a Caesar. Except that Caesar;s ambition was tempered to a degree by a love for Rome. Obama is not a patriot.

The only way to permanently turn the tide is to take over the education system at all levels, but starting with conservatives going in to the classroom as teachers and then taking over the Univ Education Depts. Till that happens we are only putting band-aids on tumors.

My sentiments exactly. Like you I have family who voted for Obama. I'm furious with them over this. This isn't a normal political disagreement. They have voted for a very dangerous man. Their stupidity is beyond belief. They think it's just another political argument but it isn't. These same people voted for Clinton. I disagreed with them at the time but I wasn't outraged. With Obama they have betrayed their country. This will cause wounds within our family that will take years to heal, if ever.

Samuel Johnston:
• “It is apprehended that Jews, Mahometans (Muslims), pagans, etc., may be elected to high offices under the government of the United States. Those who are Mahometans, or any others who are not professors of the Christian religion, can never be elected to the office of President or other high office, [unless] first the people of America lay aside the Christian religion altogether, it may happen. Should this unfortunately take place, the people will choose such men as think as they do themselves.

[Elliot’s Debates, Vol. IV, pp 198-199, Governor Samuel Johnston, July 30, 1788 at the North Carolina Ratifying Convention]
