Last Sunday, in "Curb Your Enthusiasm", Larry David's new pill has increased his flow so much it is causing him to splatter, which leads to a misunderstanding about a miraculously weeping Jesus in Maureen and her mothers bathroom. Immediately after the air time Catholic groups came out with disapproving statements...

In the CYE episode, Larry David urinates on a painting of Jesus. Two women come into the bathroom where the painting is, and then thinking that Jesus is weeping, kneel reverently.
Those who so-called playfully tease/mock/whatever, yet won't do the same with another religion (like having an episode where someone urinates on a statue of The Buddha, with unknowing Buddhists thinking that the statue is crying kneeling reverently before the statue) are bigots.
Other religions, especially Hinduism, have had incidents where statues were said to be weeping, be it tears or even milk.
In the end, I don't see much teasing or mocking of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and so, by the entertainment community in the U.S. I guess it's just obsessive, anti-Christian bigotry at work.
If people are going to tease, play with or mock one religion, then it would seem that if they don't want to be considered bigots, then they must also do the same with other religions, too.
To: All
I don’t know if Larry David is an atheist or what he personally believes in when it comes to religious belief(s).
With that said, do you think that atheists in America obsessively mock Christianity and dispaly their hateful bigoptry when they don’t do the same with other religions?
I mean, if they don’t have any religious belief, then shouldn’t atheists attack all religions equally?
To: Laissez-faire capitalist
Jesus said that the world will hate you (believers) because it hated me first. The fact that the “world” goes out of its way to mock the Lord demonstrates their hatred of Him and fear that Jesus’ message just might be right!

Has anyone seen the episode? What was the context? Larry plays an obnoxious misanthrope.

Larry David is rich. Larry David is famous. Larry David is well respected by many.
Unfortunately, Larry David is Larry David. (see above).
I mean, really, this guy makes Jerrold Nadler and Henry Waxman look like gay porn stars.
Larry David does make me laugh. Every time I look at him.
Would you want Larry David's fame and fortune? Not me. Not if I had to look at that in the mirror.

Yes... And no. First, the word "attack" does not apply to all non-theists. Some feel no need to "attack," and feel better simply ignoring. Chris Hitchens is one who attacks - and he saves his most vitriolic rants for Islam. I read Sam Harris's "End of Faith" which spends more time dissecting Islam than Christianity (especially wrt terrorism, which is a no-brainer).
Of course, since most of us on FR live in the US where Christianity reigns supreme, it stands to reason that most atheists we're familiar with will spend the most time mocking/attacking Christianity. I'm sure that atheists in Saudi Arabia put Islam under the microscope far more than Christianity. Until they are put to death for doing so, of course.
That said, Larry David urinated in the toilet and his backsplash, as it were, hit the Jesus portrait. While the faithful will certainly still find that offensive, it's quite different that say, "Piss Christ."

One further question. What did Jesus ever do to deserve this. He was a good man, and at the end of the day he earned befoulment at the hands of a quick buck shyster like David.

Therefore the urine is deliberately applied for comedic effect. The alleged comedy comes later.
Still, it's different than deliberately urinating on a statue or picture.

he’s jewish, i do watch this show. there is more jewish reference in his show more than any other religion. i learn a lot of jewish holidays and traditions from larry david.
why Christianity was targeted? i guess it’s a very common religion here in the states.
he had make fun of ugly Muslim women before.
don’t remember any Buddhism references... oh, in one episode he made an erroneous assumption that bobby lee’s character ate dog because he’s korean.

"Larry David makes fun of everyone, most especially himself. The humor is always playful and certainly never malicious." Whoo hoo! What fun! Let's all having a p---ing party! Let's all p--- on religious icons! It's playful! It's fun! If you think it's malicious, it's because you have no sense of humor! If you're offended, get over yourself!
To: Borges
I saw it. David is prescribed 'flomax' for a prostate problem. While visiting a co-worker's apartment, he uses the restroom.
His 'flow' when urinating is close to fire hose pressure, and some accidentally splashes on a picture of Jesus hanging in the bathroom next to the toile. The splash is a drop just under the eye, and it looks like a tear.
David notices it, and looks as if he's considering wiping it off with his finger, but doesn't.
The next person to enter the bathroom is the resident of the apartment, who sees the 'tear' and thinks it's a miracle.
Not hilarious, not in the best taste, but certainly done not in the context that many of the easily offended are making it out to be.

Even Satan knows that Jesus’s message is true and not “just might be right”. Hence, the “world” is run by Satan.

His ‘flow’ when urinating is close to fire hose pressure, and some accidentally splashes on a copy of the Koran a pious Muslim has left on the counter next to the toilet. The splash is a drop just under the word “Allah” in the Shahad, and it looks like a tear.
David notices it, and looks as if he’s considering wiping it off with his finger, but doesn’t.
The next person to enter the bathroom is a resident of the apartment, who sees the ‘tear’ and thinks it’s a miracle.

Every time someone votes Democrat, they are basically p.......... on Jesus. I have actually used the line, spitting on Christ/God every time someone votes for a Democrat.
Obama spits on Jesus when he nominated what`s her name to the Supreme Court. Obama spit on Jesus when he voted to not give aid to a baby that survives an abortion. Anybody that says they are pro choice, spits on Jesus.
Larry David??? He`s not doing anything different from what all democrats do.
A vote for a Democrat is a vote to remove Jesus from the public square, a vote for abortion, a vote for homosexuality etc. Larry David is just a good Democrat, nothing new here.
