Greenbelt, a city that prides itself on its heritage as a New Deal-era social experiment, is finding its commitment to inclusiveness tested as two black candidates contend for seats on its all-white City Council in Tuesday's elections.
Until this year, only two blacks had ever run for the council and none had been elected, even though blacks account for nearly half the 21,000 residents of the 6-square-mile city just outside the Capital Beltway, according to the most recent census estimates. Asians and Hispanics make up 20 percent.
The disparity has caught the attention of the American Civil Liberties Union and the NAACP. Both filed complaints last year, prompting the Justice Department to take a closer look at whether the Maryland city's election practices comply with the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

It’s odd, but the ACLU is all over this instance, but completely ignored the East St. Louis politicos who come out publically and said they would not hire a white as Chief of Police.

They weren’t heard from in the matter of the Atlanta mayoral race, either. The black city council is alarmed that a white (woman) is ahead in the mayoral race because whites have been moving back into the city while blacks have moved to the ‘burbs, although she has some black support as well.
The bottom line is that in just about every city where blacks have taken control of the reins of government, the entire operation has gone to hell in a handbasket - corruption, crime, drugs, poverty, loss of business, loss of revenue, and loss of population.
I went to ERHS(81) and grew up in Greenbelt back in the 70s,80s. That was over 20 years ago, I went back 2 years ago for a visit and will never go back. It’s a shame, Greenbelt was once a wonderful town to live in, now its the hoodbelt.

If you want the REAL hood, you have to go south: Suitland, Temple Hills, Oxon Hill.

Yes it is and all that most whites will do is sheepishly look at the floor and say something inane like "I'm not a racist". Meanwhile race is being used as the battering ram to destroy us and this nation.

Yes, there were four such experiments. Greenbelt was also known as Tugwell Town. What saved the city from turning into a typical failed Federal Housing project was the after WWII the project was sold by the Government to the Greenbelt Cooperative. For years the cooperative controlled the buying and selling of the townhouse units. Real Estate interest eventually broke the Coop’s control. The city has always been a bastion of Roosevelt Democrats.

Ah, I see lesser minorities (especially those ghetto-money-sucking orientals) don’t count in any worries about “representation”.
