Group Calls on Gingrich to Rescind Endorsement of Scozzafava
Christian Newswire ^ | Oct. 30, 2009 | Catholic Families for America

Posted on 10/30/2009 8:05:39 AM PDT by austinrepub

CFA Executive Director: "While I admire Newt's intelligence and respect him as a fellow Catholic, his crass, political calculation in endorsing such a pro-abortion candidate sends an unfortunate signal that party loyalty is more important than morality. Newt needs to examine his conscience for so publicly flouting the Church's doctrine on abortion and gay marriage."

Expect Newt to double-down. He’ll do a photo op with Ms. Scozzafava talking about how great of a job she’ll do fighting man-made global warming.

He has an easy out, if he would take it. He can simply say he wanted another Republican to stop Pelosi, and at the time Scozzi was it. Now that she has botched her candidacy, he supports the only remaining viable Republican.

It would be no less shallow or craven than much of his other political machinations over the last few years.

Well there’s the problem. You need to cut that out. The intelligent Newt is historical. (I feel a new tagline coming on!)

We interrupt this thread to bring you this special report:

Lets all turn on Newt (again) because he says something (1 thing) that you don't agree with.

Weeks ago, Newt was still a messiah to many.

We now return you to the regularly scheduled feel good perfect conservative hypocrisy.

I began to worry about Newt even further back than some of you.
I have a picture of myself with Newt, back during the San Diego convention.
He used to be one of my heroes.

Then, he PRAISED FDR, for his DOMESTIC policy, during the Clinton administration, while we were fighting to stop Clinton's socialism-light.

Loyalty to "the party" at all costs? Even if your morals and integrity are compromised?

Sorry Newt, it doesn't (and shouldn't) work that way. As a Catholic who is beholden to Scripture should know, that we are to test EVERYTHING through the lens of God's Word. Yes, and that means even the motives of the GOP...

Too late. Gingrich endorsed, did not withdraw his endorsement, and so he has picked sides. Newt always seemed a little bit too careful in his politics and views, but maybe he’s dated himself this time. So long Newt, been good to know you. Sarah, appoint him as ambassador to China or something when you get your next job.

I strongly disagree with anyone and everyone who has a blanket criticism of Mr.Newt. ... those who call him “RINO” or “Dem” or anything other than conservative.

Mr.Newt has been more of an asset to the Conservative movement than almost anyone else in the country now alive. In this case, I completely disagree with his support of the old power structure, as I have on one or two other issues.

Those of you who have only been peripherally involved in political battles, instead of having been immersed in them as he has been, have not seen as many disappointments as he has and NOT ONE of you engineered the conservative takeover of the House in 1994 as he did. He sees with some justification that in 1993 moderate GOPers won and started the snowball moving for that takeover. It is my belief that he was lied to about the way NY-23 candidate was chosen, and that he doesn’t understand the demographics and dynamics of NY-23. This clearly was NOT a “local choice” as he has repeatedly stated, and he seems to believe. I hope he goes to www.tcotreport.com and educates himself today about this situation. And by the way, I do NOT believe that “oh- she supports abortion- I withdraw my endorsement” is a valid response.

I honor his service, his opinion, and the important insight and actions he has brought to Conservatism and continues.

You who do not are more destructive to Conservatism than Mr.Newt will ever be.

Amen + 1!

Newt needs to do a year or two of penance for his matrimonial sins, his political sins, and his incredible pride. I think he's minimizing his own faults (I NEVER do that, of course.) and he won't be credible and his soul will be in peril if he doesn't get his shizzle together a little.

Newt is the guy who did commercials about global warming WITH a democrat. He got thrown out of his office when he cheated on his wife. He supports a pro abortion candidate when he claims to be a catholic. Now those are some serious contridictions. Ya, he is bright and writes good books but he is a RINO.

I was stating what Gingrich could say. Hoffman would caucus with the Republicans, and Hoffman is registered Republican. He just happens to be running on the Conservative line. Gingrich is obviously a party man, and I was coming up with a plausible formulation he could use to justify a change of heart. As someone pointed out, he's too proud to admit that he was wrong, so it will be more difficult for him to make a comeback in an elected capacity. He has also damaged his capacity to be regarded as a "wise man" on these sorts of things.

I don't think Newt was the only person responsible for the House and Senate landslides in the 1994 election, though he probably does. Clinton was elected with 42% of the vote in 1992, the same percentage Dukakas had gotten 4 years earlier. The Clintons and the Democrats broke so many promises in 1993 and 1994 and were so arrogant and incompetent that the country rejected them. Gingrich was involved in this and to the extent he contributed I give him credit.

However, since then Gingrich has tried to be the center of attention and make everything about him. He self destructed as Speaker and had to resign. He let his ego get in the way and was consistently outmaneuvered by Clinton, the Democrats and the MSM.

Lately, however, he has been particularly dishonorable and self promoting. His appearances with Pelosi in support of cap and trade were unprincipled and contemptible. His recent appearances with Sharpton, a dishonest race hustler and advocate of racial violence have been despicable. His recent support of Scozzafava and attacks on Hoffman are yet more examples of this.

Gingrich is not a principled conservative any more than he is sincere in his new Catholic faith when he promotes someone who works to increase the killing of innocent unborn children and push a pro homosexual agenda.
