Minneapolis police are looking for a group of teenagers who attacked at least three men. The attacks happened just minutes apart in south Minneapolis early Thursday morning.
One man trying to break up a fight became a victim himself, right in front of his young son.
It was about 6:30 Thursday morning when Dr. Mani Mokalla was walking his 6-year-old son to the bus stop. He stumbled on a man being beaten up right on the sidewalk.
"I basically inquired, 'What's going on, what are you guys doing?' And they said for me to mind my own business, and I indicated that if they're hurting someone, it is my business," said Mokalla.
The group quickly turned from the man on the ground to Mokalla. They broke his glasses so he didn't get a very good look at the group. They all had their hoods up.
"One of them basically just came up to me and started hitting me," he recalled.
Just nine blocks away and about a half hour earlier, police believe the same group of teenagers attacked another man.
Tom didn't want to use his last name or show his face. He did show WCCO-TV the big scar on his head from the attack.
"They began to assault me with their fists, beat me, beat me, you know, assault me with their fists," Tom said.
Tom thinks it was three of four teenagers that beat him up. At least one of them, a girl. They made off with the $8 he had in his pocket.
Mokalla is a pediatrician and an advocate for children. He's hoping the teens turn themselves in. In the meantime, police promise extra patrols in the Powderhorn neighborhood.
"It's upsetting on multiple levels. It's upsetting because anybody wants to be able to do right by their kids, to be able to take them to the park or the school bus and feel safe in his or her own neighborhood," said Mokalla.
These crimes are all in Keith's fifth district in MPLS.
Liberals, with no personal protection, because they hate guns and anyone that might carry a handgun to prevent a felony crime.
The bad guys know where to go for an easy payday...
That's why they don't troll my neighborhood.
What’s upsetting is that the victim was unarmed.
