With Democrats poised to lose the governor's race in Virginia, and to possibly lose the governor's race in New Jersey and a special election for a House seat in New York, the White House has started insisting any pending losses will not have any significance.
"Whatever the results are I don't think they portend a lot in dealing with the future," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters on Friday, pointing to the fact that Democrats won the Virginia and New Jersey governors' races in 2001 despite a very popular President Bush, with Republicans picking up seats in Congress in 2002.
"I think we continue to take the long view on what's going on in Washington and throughout the country," Gibbs said.
President Obama will appear at campaign rallies in New Jersey Sunday to help the struggling and unpopular incumbent governor, Jon Corzine, who polls show is in a statistical dead heat with the Republican nominee, former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie.
On Monday, Vice President Joe Biden will appear at a campaign rally in Watertown, NY, to help the Democratic candidate in the special election for that New York House seat, Bill Owens, who is in a tight race with Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

What’s the name of that river in Egypt?
“I think we continue to take the long view on what’s going on in Washington and throughout the country,” Gibbs said. “
Good, then you’ll be prepared for the future shellackings, Bobby.
It is getting laughable to hear the spin.
First, the meltdown of the stimulous opposition was ignored. Then, the teaparty protests were marginalized by derogatory jokes and minimal coverage. Next, the fourth of July protest was disbaraged and ignored. The town halls came next, and again, ignored while sending out goons to intimidate, so we went to Washington to the tune of 2 million. Nobody listened. Now we will get to hear the spin about the rino hunts being played out in the bluest states, whether old blues or newly minted blues.
The day I await to see bagdad gibbs speaking on is Nov 5 2010............
Every Democrat incumbant should have these 3 election losses (when they occur) rubbed in their noses so that they are very mindful of them when the Health Care bill comes up for a vote.
“I think we continue to take the long view on what’s going on in Washington and throughout the country,” Gibbs said.
Translation: “We are excited about the long-term effects of all the legislation and change that we are enacting now, that you will never be able to get rid of later.”
This reminds me when Terry McAuliffe made comments after a devastating mid-term election that it was a “good night”.
100% spin 0% truth.
Actually, you could take this statement as an admission that all three races are going to go GOP based on “Eyes Only” Democrat secret polling.

Down to the final days. Its get out the vote time.
“Whatever the results are I don’t think they portend a lot in dealing with the future,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters on Friday ....
.... which explains why, in his most recent column, Dennis Miller referred to Gibbs as “Sargent Shultz.”
Then when the tape came out, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the press told us. And Clinton ended up coming out of it looking better than he should have.
So I'm skeptical about anything coming out of the White House.
I won't be satisfied until the elections are over, we've beaten all Democrats, and there aren't any BS lawsuits protesting the results.
“Disappointing.” Interesting choice of words for the lapdog media.
People best check these elections and make sure everyone that voted is a qualified voter. ACORN will be in there someplace.
This is clearly HIS idea, but my TAKE is that nothing done in politics is written in stone. In fact, a stalwart Republican majority in Congress and GOP a president could make short work of everything the Obama Administration & Congress has or will accomplish in a few short months.
This has undoubted implications for Obama and Pelosi's healthcare "reform." It should put the fear of God into many Blue Dogs. It will reinforce reluctant Democrat Senators and it vindicates Joe Lieberman. It also has implications for Cap and Trade in the Senate and makes it much more difficult for Obama to complete his Marxist coup of the whole American economy.
It has significant implications for the governing of the Republican Party. It leaves Rep. Pete Sessions and former Speaker Newt Gingrich both looking damned foolish. Worse, they look out of touch. They simply do not understand the electoral landscape of America today-although one suspects they will be learning fast. This has tremendous implications for funding and for the momentum of the Tea Party Movement.
I have preached long and often on these threads that the Republican Party must be reformed and that it cannot win if he does not accommodate The Tea Party Movement. Equally, The Tea Party Movement will succeed only in electing Democrats if it does not align itself with the Republican Party. A 21st-century election campaign throughout 50 states is too vast, too complicated, and too expensive to be accomplished by a bunch of well-meaning, overweight, middle-aged, suburbanite, middle-class, patriotic, Americans. They need the apparatus of the Republican Party because that professionalism, fund-raising ability, mailing list, ground game, national coordination, is absolutely indispensable if we are to have a hope of doing battle with the juggernaut being prepared for us by the Democrats. Just consider how many fundraisers Obama has already attended.
Essentially, this is a call for both groups to come together and accommodate each other and
for God sake act as patriots!
Haven’t seen any evidence to show that this administration is remotely as able to manipulate the media as the Clinton admin. The Clintons could spin anything and play their opponents for fools.
This administration will go to war with the voters of New Jersey, Virginia and upstate New York.
Oh that is going to be a JOY.
Joy joy joy.
No more Democrat ram-rodding and screwing America, JOY!
Don’t forget to money bomb Doug Hoffman and David Harmer in California 10 http://www.harmerforcongress.com/
“It’s only a flesh wound.”
Well they’ll lose Virginia. The New York 23rd is not so much a loss as a Republican retention. And I think they’ll keep New Jersey. So it’ll be a net loss of one office that they haven’t had a chance of keeping for some time now.
Good points. I have been of the mind for some time, that Obama was doing so much campaigning that he and that party are well aware that the shellacking is coming in November despite their denials. He is trying to keep on top of it, which is fine, it will make him look like a loser when it comes to campaigning for others. Which will only further increase the trepidations of the Blue Dogs.
Obama is a one timer for sure.
Oh King of Denial, hopin’ you’re buyin’ all his alibis
King of Denial, floatin’ down a river of lies
Let's just pray that he's wrong because real Americans are rejecting socialism and not right because this will be the last free election in our couintry. I worry about Obama's ability to find or create a crisis as needed, always one that requires him to expand his power "for the duration of the energency".
White House is whistling past the graveyard.
Let ‘em go to war with the voters. That would be good for us! Good for America too!
BTW, I really like the quote on your profile page. It’s spot on!!
“And I think theyll keep New Jersey.”
No way, Chris by 3 or 4 points.
Could GIbbs have meant this?
“Just because we are losing in the polls, doesn’t mean we will lose the elections. They are rigged, ya know!”
I was just listening to Carl Cameron (Fox News) discussing all the “prominent Republicans” who have come out to endorse Hoffman. The one name he didn’t mention - and this frosted my flakes - was Sarah Palin! He mentioned Tim Pawlenty as if he was the first! The fact is, they all were playing follow the leader and the leader was Sarah!
I can’t find any polls for the California 10. Do you have any numbers?
Jake Tapper gives the official Obamanoid story, but he gives it in its real context. Thank you, Jake, for honestly reporting the news.
Hopefully, we are about to see three more Obama associates thrown under the bus. “Not my fault!” says the Messiah.
Carl Cameron is frosted. He’s in denial. He wrote Sarah off, but she won’t stay off.
Ol' "Baghdad" Bob Gibbs and his line of PURE BULLSH*T in the face of STARK REALITY.
I think it's called "River of no return".
No, no, no...the State of Denial is one of Obama's 57 states, along with the State of Confustion. I don't recall the other five.
Don’t even think that they’re going to lose this one. The Dems in NJ (aided and abetted by the White House) will pull out every “dead voter / lost ballot / keep the polls open past the regular hours” trick in the book to avoid this loss. Christie will have to have a million vote margin to win the NJ election. If they can win one of two, then their propaganda ministers in the SRM can position it as an 0bama win. Bet on it.
Good old Wrongway Gibbs. How is he act picking football games ?
You mean the Pre-emptive Damage Control?
Sometimes it’s peaceful, and sometimes wild and churned...
Considering that President Dubya actually gained seats his first midterm, I’d say that by comparison this is truly going to be a shellacking of major proportions.
And I for one, will be overjoyed to point out the difference between O and a real President.
I don’t care how the White House feels, it’s how those Congress critters up for reelection will feel that matters to me.
Not so much DeNile really as it is trying to do spin control. I think they are very much concerned under the surface.
LOL, Obi-wan-Obama. We are under your spell.
