...there was a New York Times article that predicted the housing/financial meltdown....the article was written about 5 years ago and re-posted on FR within the last couple of months...it outlined in detail how the Dems pressured lenders to make mortgages to low income/high risk borrowers....I can't find it....did anybody bother to save it?....I'd sure like to read it again...many, many thanks....and this time I'll save it like I should have done last time.
I’m dead tired. But going to dig into my archives. Just for you.
Because I know that feeling!
I have access to my schools online lib and academic archive. I will take a look over there.
All I remember is that Perdogg posted it.

Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending
Here's another good one from 1994...
Yep. More Loans to so-called Subprime Borrowers
“Fannie Mae, the nation’s biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.
In addition, banks, thrift institutions and mortgage companies have been pressing Fannie Mae to help them make more loans to so-called subprime borrowers.”

“resisting any efforts by Republicans and the Congress or by me when I was President to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac...”

TIA for being a PATRIOT!
NYT also (used to) has an ‘archive’ section that goes back decades. It was free at the time, which was about 15 years ago. I was researching something for a colleague and found it. Good Luck
I am still looking for it...
So glad you asked for this. A very excellent post. Bookmarked!
Thanks!
We need to help out our fellow Freepers when we can.

That’s the article I remember the most, since it has a 9/11 date. Once again it is Bush warning of a Fannie/Freddie implosion (a bit strange, since he at times advocated for CRA, which was a large part of the problem; not to mention the ineffectiveness of SEC under Chris Cox), but the Banking Committee CongressCrooks (TM) blocked reform. Again. And again.
