Obama Administration Invokes State Secrets Privilege…Again
ABC News ^ | October 30, 2009 10:53 PM | Jake Tapper ABC News Senior White House Correspondent

The Obama administration invoked the controversial "state secrets" privilege again on Friday, arguing that if U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker were to permit a legal case against the government to proceed, he would be putting national security at risk.

Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement about the case, Shubert et. al v. Obama, that "there is no way for this case to move forward without jeopardizing ongoing intelligence activities that we rely upon to protect the safety of the American people."

The case is a class action suit brought by four Brooklynites alleging that the Bush administration engaged in wholesale dragnet surveillance of ordinary Americans in which they were unjustly caught because they regularly made phone calls and sent emails to individuals outside the U.S., specifically in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Egypt, the Netherlands, and Norway.

Obama administration officials argued that even addressing or attempting to refute the plaintiffs’ claim would require the administration "to disclose intelligence sources and methods, or the lack thereof."

Holder said he was invoking the privilege despite having outlined new policies and procedures last month containing new internal and external checks and balances for the Justice Department to follow before invoking the privilege, requiring "a thorough, multi-stage review and rely(ing) upon robust judicial and congressional oversight."

The statement and legal documents were released in a particularly active Friday afternoon document dump -- including stimulus jobs numbers and White House visitors logs.

Yeah, there must be LOTS of people with the names: Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright and Malik Shabazz who can gain access to the WH. This Admin thinks the rest of us are as stupid as the people who put them in office.

He’s whitewashed his past and now making the present another secret coverup.

How could one who doesn’t want to exist do so much damage?

Based on what I found when I checked switchboard.com there are a surprisingly large number of people with the name Malik Shabazz. I think the visitor logs that were released include people who just went on tours of the White House.

I was wondering if Holder’s sudden willingness to protect what are theoretically CIA and intelligence secrets relates perhaps to some threat from the CIA to reveal Obama’s past and his actual citizenship status. I can’t believe they don’t know what it is.

Someone is removing facts from the Internet as soon as they surface. I have chased info on the web and have actually seen it evaporate before my eyes. Hot news and new photos vanish before they can be copied and saved.

How many Obama people does it take to monitor and clean the Internet for the criminal president?

And why is he still in office?

The other side of the story from Judicial Watch is here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2374645/posts

As predicted this latest piece from ABC simply states the White House position without mentioning that, “the Privacy Act specifically lists the Executive Office of the President as an agency subject to the Act’s provisions.”

Shameless MSM hacks have an amazing ability to switch sides in any argument depending on which party occupies the White House.

Yeah. Why is this scumbag still in office?

Because Congress keeps him there.

No one supports the American people except American patriots because Congress has gotten rich off us.

UK seems to be cutting the Lords' pay due to excesses; I'm looking into that

Otherwise:

GIVE US YOURS AND YOU TAKE OURS. YOU WORK FOR US.

INSIST CONGRESS TAKES A PAY CUT FOR ITS 2 1/2 DAY, 4 MONTH WORK YEAR.

That's the problem with long term plans. The victims are screwed before they know it.

Why didn't we know about it?

Because both parties are covering it up.

Why?

Could it be Soros and Saudis and Bears, et al?
