Sarah Palin and Rick Perry should bring a Conservative Party challenge in 2012
The Hill ^ | 11/2/09 | Bernie Quigley

Posted on 11/02/2009 2:53:21 PM PST by pissant

Whatever happens tomorrow in the NY-23 race will be anticlimactic. Now that Dede Scozzafava, the Republican candidate, has dropped out, there has already been a clear and historic victory for the Conservative Party.

The Republican Party is now a third party in NY-23. The Conservative Party of New York was formed in 1962, but is the focus now of national interest. And it cannot be denied that Sarah Palin was the first major national political figure to cross the river to NY-23. The new energy heading to NY-23 is formed out of the Tea Party and Town Hall movements. We can possibly see now the fledgling beginning of a third major party in America, the Conservative Party.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) was the first major figure to speak out when he wrote last Nov. 15 in The Wall Street Journal, “I find myself in a lonely position. While many states and local governments are lining up for a bailout from Congress, I went to Washington recently to oppose such bailouts. I may be the only governor to do so.” Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) joined him shortly after. But it cannot be denied that Palin is the dynamic force awakening the heartland to this new perspective. The victory of the Conservative Party over the Republican Party in NY-23 is the first step out of the abstract and into the concrete.

Maybe Perry should change his brand to Conservative Party in his race in Texas and leave Kay Bailey Hutchison to the Republican nostalgicos. Dick Cheney is campaigning for Hutchison, and they seem a fairly good match. Palin is stumping for Perry.

If Palin was going to go 3rd Party, why would she want that RINO along with her?

I agree that a third party for 2012 (especially with Perry) can be ruled out for now.

However... I like the suggestion of Perry running as third Party against Hutchison (equal to Scozzafava), should she be the GOP candidate. But I think Perry will get the GOP ticket in Texas anyway. I can’t see Hutchison winning the primary.

The only shot Hutchinson has is that Perry has stepped on his John Thomas on way too many occasions.

I disagree with the argument in the article. Palin and conservatives should stay in the Republican party and root out the RINOs. I heard someone today say it’s a misnomer calling someone a RINO. He said they are actually Democrats in Republican clothing. Don’t know what acronym we’d use for that, though.

We need a movement for 2010....One that members pledge the following:

1. Reduce Government Spending, no more bailouts
2. No government run health care
3. No cap and trade.

I think if we limit the agenda to this, I think we can pick up 80 seats.

If we add to it

4. Shitcan the Depts of Education, Health and Human Services, Energy, NEA and NEH, HUD, and 40% of the federal government.

5. Kill the regulations that currently prohibit across state purchases of health insurance

6. Win the war in Afghanistan decisively and quickly

they would add another 20 seats.

That’s for sure - we need to take care of the RINOs in the primaries rather than “punish” them in the general election as happened with Santorum.

If this movement grows to 1994 proportions, that local race will be its Lexington—maybe NJ its Concord. It would be great to have some NY-23 lapel pins made-up to wear through 2012.

#5 definitely. part of the real health care reform along with tort reform. #4 not a good thing to focus on, more focus on reducing size of government in general terms. #6 is not the role of the House and shouldn’t be the focus. We need to focus on a few items which almost all people agree upon and are angry about.

If Sarah wins, she AND we deserve someone substantially better than Governor Goodhair (Perry!).

The only reason the author wants Sarah Palin to run Conservative Party nationally would be no win for Sarah.
Sarah Palin understands why we are fighting the war and
supports the war against the IslamOfascists.

The author is anti war and would like to see Sarah out of the way.
Sarah’s best chance is to continue as a Republican and where she has the base.

Correct. Ditch the RINOs and get the party back to a Conservative "Reagan-Republican" party.

If the RNC and GOP bothered to think once in a while and grow a pair, they might have a successful Republican party.

3rd parties are idiotic. A 3P run in 2012 will only re-elect Obama.

Remember, in NY-23 Dede Scuzzifavabeans WAS the 3rd party candidate. Hoffman was the true Republican. And the base fixed the glitch.

No. The RNC, NRCC, NY GOP, Michael Steele, along with all the official party boosters supported the “republican”, Scozzafava. They gave her nearly a million dollars.

You can be sure of a strong third party run if another McCain like milquetoast is selected as Obama’s challenger.

She will be running in GOP primaries, if she runs, right? It will depend on her positions and how she comes across personally, but serious why would anyone not expect her to do well in GOP primaries?

But who would not think a Governor elected in Alaska could not do well in retail political states like Iowa and NH? If the calendar stays the same the next big state is SC where she should similarly do well. Then FL right? It is like the primary system is constructed to be a softball for her. The one thing she has to worry about is crossover voting in open primary states since there is likely to be no H. Clinton v. Obama II battle.

You’re correct.

Baraq is gonna pull 40% of the popular vote no matter what.
That’s his locked in base of minorities, illegals, dead voters, union members, govt employees, and idiot libs.

I’m sure their strategy will be to have Soros fund RINOs in an attempt to get the opposition to split and then win with a Clintonian plurality.

One thing about her has always left me uneasy, she seems to be into Global Warming.

We'll have to see what she has to say in her book, but I very much doubt that someone who has worked as she has with the oil and gas industries is going to support "cap and trade" nonsense. My interpretation is that she said what she had to say to avoid contradicting her running mate. If she were at the top of the ticket it would have been fine for her to expose AGW as a scam so that it would be hard for anyone (including her running mate) to support it. For her to do so as a VP candidate, however, would have sunk the ticket even worse.
