W.H. sounds alarm on $1.4T budget deficit
The Washington Times ^ | November 3, 2009 | Jon Ward and Matthew Mosk

The White House is beginning to send strong signals that it recognizes the $1.4 trillion budget deficit is a looming political problem that needs to be addressed, even as President Obama reminds Americans that the country's fiscal crisis originated with the Bush administration and will not be resolved overnight.

The president's budget director, Peter R. Orszag, on Tuesday will deliver the second major speech on the deficit in a week by a top White House official. Mr. Orszag's speech on "reining in the deficit" will be the first time that a top White House economist will look forward at the difficult task of reducing the gap between government revenues and expenditures.

A speech last week by Christina D. Romer, chairman of the president's Council of Economic Advisers, looked at the reasons for the deficit and at how it relates to health care reform. Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday to make clear that the administration recognizes the deficit is growing too large.

Start with repealing Tarp and the stimulus. No more bailouts. Freeze discretionary spending. Those measures should at least cut the deficit in half.

Thanks for the graphic. I'd say that any hope of liquidating the deficit were absolutey ruined by the obama Junta on purpose. It will not be eliminated for a generation, 20 years.

And listen to the propaganda! They blame G W Bush? What a sick bunch of manipulating puss heads.

They need fixing, fast!

At least Fox News is asking the right questions. The others haul water for Obama. Wait until America wakes up, its only a matter of time. Then "hell to pay" will be an understatement.

W.H. sounds alarm on $1.4T budget deficit

Is this the same White House that wants to purchase a Trillion Dollar Health Care "Reform" bill? That most of America does NOT want?

Thought so ...

They are preparing us for the taxman! I wonder exactly which magic obama eight ball phrase he will use, of course it will e preceded with “the previous administration... The obama phrasebook needs some new material, maybe he should be like Hitlery and just put them out there with her “we tax everything that moves & doesn’t move” comment. Maybe he doesn’t have them to put out, who knows.

Both cap and trade and obamacare are nothing but disguised sources of revenue to feed the socialist pig.

In “healthcare” in addition to the fact that it adds 115 new federal agencies to feed from the public trough. It wouldn’t go into effect for another 3 years while huge taxes on it would be collected.

They’re starting to be concerned on a deficit they created and will significantly increase if anymore of their legislation passes.

This is code language from the Democrats that they want to raise taxes; with the Kenyan Clown, you can be sure that it will also include massive cuts to our defense budget.

“America’s patience of blaming it on W is over”

I don’t suppose that the news of Citi losing taxpaqyers billions while it filed for bankruptcy had anything to do with this announcement. -—And the obligatory—it’s “all Bush’s fault”, of course. /s

$1.4 trillion? Is that all? And I thought Mr. Hopey-changey was going to remodel America into a new utopia. He, and those slugs in the Dem-majority Con-gress have raised this deficit on their own. And let's not forget those remaining neutered Republicans who are gleefully following the train wreck in progress.

Now they expect every American to pay for their idiocy and greed!

Yep that lower ‘withholding allowance’ in the Stimulus bill should correlate with lower income tax rates, but there’s no evidence that is going to hold true

How come Michael Steele isn’t out in public noting the fact that Obama’s deficit spending is FOUR times that of Bush...and, oh BTW, prior to the present Democratic Congress of 2006...we had “the worst economy ever” with 4.5% unemployment?!!!

Sounds the Alarm? IF this wasn't such a serious matter, this was be very humorous.

To be honest, we have little baby Marxist wannabees in the White House who do not have a clue on what they are doing. It would suffice to say, Axlerod and Rahm are calling the shots and being the school yard bullies, but the asylum is running amok.

Get out the VOTE in 2010, remove their ability to manipulate the Legislature. Take away their power. Most of all, when anyone sees op-eds attacking Sarah, the Conservatives, or anyone who speaks out against Obama and his Gulag, WRITE the papers call the shows (local or national). Go after them with the “FACTS”.

Most everyone on here knows today is the day in three key states. PRAY PRAY PRAY and if you are in those areas, HELP make sure the elections are running smoothly and there aren't any left over ACORN nuts running around.

God Bless You One and ALL

We all know how to fix it, they don’t want to, period!

But Congress is poised to pass a massive new entitlement program that will only add trillions to the national debt. If the White House was really concerned it would be telling Congress to kill Obamacare, to cut spending and lower taxes. Its not doing what needs to be done to pay off this debt.

No, it's a moral and ethical problem to strap huge debt on future generations.

This is where the short memory of the American public will fail Obama. People are increasingly forgetful of what Bush did or didn’t do, and Zero’s attempts at passing the (shrinking) buck are wearing thin—even on some of the dolts.

The White House is beginning to send strong signals that it recognizes the $1.4 trillion budget deficit is a looming political problem that needs to be addressed, even as President Obama reminds Americans that the country's fiscal crisis originated with the Bush administration and will not be resolved overnight.

Obama's cheerleaders in the press may have matched Clinton in their ability to cram multiple lies into a single sentence. (1) The $1.4T deficit is an economic problem for those of us in the real world, not just a political problem. (2) Obama doesn't plan on addressing this threat to our national survival because his goal is the destruction of our economy so that he can build a socialist dictatorship on the ruins. (3) As lame as Bush was on fiscal responsibility, Obama more than tripled Bush's worst deficit - the problem grew out of control on the socialist's watch, starting January 20, 2009.

The only truth in the whole statement is that this will not be resolved overnight. The crisis will continue until January 20, 2013, when we swear in a real American as a real president.
