Tribune Co., owner of The Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times and several other news outlets, will not use most Associated Press content next week to test whether the financially struggling company can do without it, according to a story on the Chicago Tribune's Web site.
Tribune said it will use some AP material such as sports statistics and stories it considers vital. The Chicago-based company said it is trying to determine whether severing ties with the news cooperative next fall is a viable option.
The company's television stations and newspapers' online editions will not participate in the experiment. Tribune also owns 23 TV stations, The Baltimore Sun and other dailies.
Newspapers' print editions will rely on Tribune staff and several other news sources including Reuters, the New York Times and Global Post. Not all the sources are normally available to Tribune papers, according to the company.

Maybe this will lead to more local reproting...which is good. All these newspapers have the same stock AP stories.
Thanks to Fox News, and other truth sources, another leftist organization bites the dust.
Now if the AP would spend some time not using the TIMES, maybe things would get better
It might actually save the Chicago Tribune. Instead of regurgitating the AP fertilizer, Trib reporters could report on the utterly corrupt city in which they are located. By the way folks, actually doing real stories(enough with the teenage romance stuff) on Daly and his gang could make for mighty fine reading.
And local stories like that are supposed to be the mission of dailies.
Maybe because in the last two weeks, the Obama administration attacked AP over Obama’s fake ‘created or saved’ jobs numbers.....
Wow sounds just like the government takeover of radio...’local reporting’.....
Better yet, don’t bother printing the paper at all to see if anyone cares.
Which means we really only have one news source (AP) masquerading as hundreds of local papers.
AP stepped out of line - they are now being punished - notice it’s tempory. Eventually they’ll all be funded by the state.
