'V' aims at Obamamania
Chicago Tribune ^ | 11/03/09 | Glenn Garvin

Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.

The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: "Why don't you show some respect?!" The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."

The original miniseries was very good, the sequel miniseries less so, and the weekly series was pretty bad, as I recall.

My wife and are looking forward to this series and we will be watching. We faithfully watched the original mini series and television show. Speaking of which, the original V mini series was being shown in it's entirety so we DVR's it and started watching it yesterday. The frightening thing was the fact that what we were watching/the fictional story V, broadcast so many years ago is very close to what we are experiencing in America right now! My wife and I were stunned at the eerie similarities and we both came to the same conclusion without even talking to each other! “This is America today!” Yes it was and is scary. All we needed to do was substitute Obamessiah for the alien leader and his Obamabots and the “progressives” in and out of the media, government, politics and our communities for the alien ground troops.

Obama and his minions, like the aliens promise us all "Peace and Safety" when the reality is this: They want to control and EAT US!

I have a feeling the new V will draw the same parallels with the Obama administration (It can not help but do so.) while upping the stakes along with superb special effects. Go Mr. Abrams!

Sounds like meaningless hype to generate interest to me.

That said: I’ve always believed Obama and his ilk were really a bunch of alien, flesh eating reptiles......

I also read where every special effect laser shot cost $1000 each so the producers decided to minimize them by having the human resistance use guns.

I wouldn’t go that far,

but 0bama and his cronies ARE

FASCISTS.

Just like the aliens in the original V were patterned after Hitler’s Nazis.

If 0bamites see themselves in this mirror, so much the better.

Then closed off by “V:The final battle?”

No, mini-series, Final Battle, then the TV series.

Yeah, the TV series was pretty cheesy, special effects left a lot to be desired. When they did show the Visitors’ reptilian nature, they looked like the Gorn from the original Star Trek.

Still, there were a few memorable segments — like the ep reminiscent of the ‘Les Marseilles’ scene from “Casablanca”, where patrons of the Resistance club sing God Bless America to drown out a Visitor playing the lizard’s anthem on the piano...

Thanks. I did set up to catch them all for today, so I am hoping that I am good. I am having a hard time remembering if I set up to record a “final battle.”

Great, thank for the information. It looks like they may just leave the series with a lot of open issues.

I couldn’t find the ending on the line up.....In the description the 19th episode seemed to leave some open issues.

After 19 episodes the Network cancelled it effectively killing both the Visitors and the Resistance.

I just rewatched the Original series.

I don't think I ever got through the whole series when it was broadcast. I get tired of a series when every episode is a continuation of the previous one.

The only thing I remember about it was that the evil Alien leader was a babe.

I always thought it was ironic that the lefties have ALWAYS labeled anyone with conservative ideals as a NAZI.

Lefties cannot look in the mirror and state the obvious.

Yeah they don’t like the TV series too much on Netflix. Continuity issues etc.

The original “V” was vomitously bad, made worse by trying to puke and laugh at the same time. It was every single bad SciFi mistake of alien invasion stories of the past 100 years. Lizards mating with humans and creating lizard babies that look human but have long, lizard tongues that flick-out at inopportune times. Humans and lizards marrying with the human none the wiser because the lizards have good makeup over their scales and lizard faces. The WORST part? They are here to steal our water. That’s right. A civilization with city-sized warp ships has to drop hoses into the ocean and suck-up all the Earth’s water. At eight pounds per gallon, mind you. Seems they have infinite energy but never learned about hydrolysis or all that hydrogen and oxygen floating around in space. Please.

Loved the original series when I was a kid (low-grade special effects notwithstanding). Since this was likely in the works before 0’s election, the timing seems more than a little...uncanny. I wonder if this time the resistance leader turns out to be a gun-toting, glasses-wearing mom from up North? ;)

Yes, "V" may very well be the "comic" book version of this message:
