There is not a single "Nidesand" that I can find listed in any public record or genealogical database, yet she was American born?

That's a good point. There don't even seem to be any in foreign countries. But there are various Ndesandjo's.

I think my point still stands that it is more than a coincidence that these two very similar names are connected by marriage. So perhaps Nidesand is an Americanized form of Ndesandjo and we just don't know Ruth's original maiden name. Evidently here is more to the story of Ruth than just the fact she married Obama Sr.

the person on the far left of the group image at the Whitehouse at #30 is Malik Abongo 'Roy' Obama. Supposedly the eldest son of Obama Sr; Kezia has been quoted as saying that Obama Sr asked her to 'take care of their six year old son' when Obama Sr left Kenya in 1959. That means he was born in 1953. Yet his age is quoted as being 51. In an article dated 2004 he claimed to be 46 years of age. Various sources claim Kezia was pregnant when Obama Sr left Kenya and don't mention the son at all. Those that do, claim he was a 'toddler' - and date the 'marriage' of Kezia to Obama Sr as 1957. Yet there are various sources that state Obama Sr was married at the age of 18. His birth year is shown as 1936. That places the 'marriage' in 1954. Can anyone follow this? I'm trying... Found this:

One would think that Brown University President Ruth Simmons (an African-American woman) would be proud of the fact that lord Obama’s brother is a Brown graduate, himself. Yet, there is no mention of Alumni brother Mark Obama Ndesanjo, in this article. And, why is the article updated 18 months after original publication?

Brown undergraduates overwhelmingly favor Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in the 2008 presidential election, according to a Herald poll conducted last week. 37.5 percent of students said they believe Obama would make the best president of the United States, versus 18.4 percent who said they favored Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. Former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina came in third with 5.6 percent, and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas led among Republican candidates, with 3.1 percent of the Brown vote.

The Herald poll was conducted from Nov. 5-7 and has a 3.9 percent margin of error with 95 percent confidence. A total of 621 Brown undergraduates completed the poll, which was administered as a written questionnaire to students in the University Post Office at Faunce House and in the Sciences Library. Though 83.4 percent of students expressed an opinion about their favorite presidential candidate, only 5.6 percent said they currently work or volunteer for a presidential campaign.
