I'm serious. I want to know WHY the RAT won.

As stated, several reasons came into play:

1) Uninformed voters: Some people reflexively pulled the lever for the person with the "R" next to their name; Scouzzafava was still on the ballot

2) Absentee ballots: Any vote via absentee ballot posted before the 31st for Scouzafava by a person that would have switched their vote to Hoffman was rendered null and void when she dropped out so late. I would say they were completely disenfranchised.

3) Any liberal with any sense of intellectual honesty (I know they are rare; they do exist, though) who backed Scouzzafava, for whatever reason, would have switched to Owens, after the RINO dropped out. Add all those up and you have a DEM win. I think it is good. Let the people of NY23 see what a true liberal will do on their behalf. let them suffer the consequences; just like the rest of the country.

The RNC is run by insensitive morons. For the second time in a few weeks I received a request for “donations” marked with a large, red “past due” on the outside of the envelope. That is after I complained to Steele in a letter about it last time and also called, reaming-out some person at the “finance” phone in headquarters about eh inappropriate nature of such a designation (especially on the outside of the envelope). Well...the “past due” nature of any donation I might make remains until they get their collective acts together. And to think think they gave the RINO/Lib/Dim Scuzzy several hundred thousand. Wow!

New York is fast becoming just another morally and economically depraved blue state and the people love to have it so.

The welfare housing complexes are taking over. No matter where you go in NY these days, there's a bunch of parasites living there. It's disgusting. The garbage starts to pile up. Drugs move in. Crime moves in. The murders start. The entire neighborhood becomes democrat trash - and a democrat politicians dream.

And it only cost the Republican Party a reported $1,000,000 dollars to have Scuzzy endorse the Democrat.

Will any of the Republican old guard have the guts to throw this Scuzz-ball out of the party?

Paging Newt Gindrich, paging Newt Gingrich.......

he tried to do it to the NH official too.

His tactic was to offer a job and then place their people in that position and it worked but at least for us it’s only for a year.

"The RNC is run by retarded, insensitive morons."

I'd be harsher.

correct but the sad part is that the so called media do not report the truth.

Many of those absentees were done way before folks got to know who Dede really was and before Hoffman came to the forefront

It WAS narrow! Had Hoffman been the R candidate and Scozzafa not on the ballot he would have won.

WHY did the voters of this district choose the RAT?

The voters didn't choose the pick. GOP party insiders did the picking. That's why Hoffman ran on a different ticket.

When Obama took the Republican from that district and gave him a job, he had to know something about that district.

He was figuring on shoving a democrat down their throats, and he did. It was a great victory for Obama. Thankfully he had great loses everywhere else.

A win here was what a lot of people though would really cause the GOP to wake up and listen to the voters and not the party hacks. The GOP is shifting to far left and we want to go back to the right. VA was pretty much a sure thing, the dem was a dweeb. NJ is a good win but I was thinking that the Dem corruption would steal it.

Dede has a LOT of personal friends and allies who saw the whole Hoffman thing as a betrayal and voted for Owens or sat it out. They were enough to swing it.

Freepers may not like this sort of friendship-over-ideas motivation, but not liking it does not make it go away.

It also would have helped the cause if Hoffman resided in the district.

Still, a strong message was sent to the GOP. Conservatives are not on board and RINO candidates will be ‘newtered.’

I grew up in that area & much of my family is still there. This is not a part of NY that most people even realize exists. It’s mainly very small towns and farms, at least in the area I come from. It’s rural, although there are some small cities included in the district.

My mother (Madison county) was very enthusiastic about Hoffman and I’m sure she’s really upset this morning. IMHO, the returns are still pretty good overall - just not good enough. Remember that he entered the race quite late, and the GOP ran ads against him. Given that, as well as the robots who simply pull the lever for their party, I think it sends a very strong message that he finished with as much of the vote as he did.

There was genuine grassroots excitement about him up there. My mother reported that, once lawn signs became available, they sprung up all around town, seemingly overnight. One story she told, from about a week ago: she was driving down the road, pretty early in the morning. At a 4-corners about a mile outside of town (yes, this is rural territory), she came upon a stretch of road which was lined with Hoffman signs. Right at the 4-corners was a group of people, holding up more signs for passing cars - despite the cold, the rain & the early hour (they were probably doing this before heading to work).

Moral of the story - while that district may be turning more moderate in some spots, there are some very staunch conservatives up there. They really did try to bring about a Hoffman win, and I’m sure they’re feeling pretty down right now. But 2010 is right around the corner & hopefully the GOP learned a lesson from this.

The great thing about this is all those voters in NY-23 are waking up to the fact they are now sleeping in the same bed as Nancy Pelosi...a situation I would not like to find myself in the morning after an election.

Hoffman’s residency was carved out of the district. Not his fault.

The RNC wasted almost 100,000 Dollars on Scuzzy attacks against Hoffman.

All the reports I read said that the GOP spent $900,000 on the RINO witch.

Newt should either remember the 1994 contract that moved him up (and becaome that man again) or he should just go into retirement and be quiet.

The GOP canidate who pulled out put her support behind the
dem, and she was still on the ballot so that the straight party ticket pullers voted for here and the absentee votes who did not see Hoffman’s push.
