The GOP wins in New Jersey and Virginia are breeding a new competition among Republicans to take part of the credit.
Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty, potential rivals for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, both tried to bask in glow.
"We worked extremely hard on behalf of Bob McDonnell and the entire Republican ticket in Virginia, and helped him close strong with a full day of campaigning in the final week; in New Jersey, we endorsed Chris Christie early and made sure he had the resources to be competitive against his better-financed opponent," Romney told supporters of his Free & Strong America PAC this morning.
"We should be proud of what we have accomplished together; but this is no time to rest on our laurels. We must begin building upon these victories today to ensure that we have the resources we need to take back the Congress in 2010," the former Massachusetts governor exhorted. (snip)
Romney, smartly it turned out, stayed out of the fray. But Pawlenty, after Sarah Palin endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, jumped on his bandwagon.

Brutus Romney is at it again.
And we have NO ONE but ourselves to blame if we allow ANY of those yahoos on our 2012 ticket. NONE of them!!!
Boston globe
say no more
The elitist so called media will do what they did last year and that is to trump a candidate and the back stab the guy when they go against the Dem
sad part is Mccain actually believed the crap they wrote about him at the beginning and then could not understand why they were now against him
Romney can get the ticket, but won’t get the votes. If he is the candidate I’ll write in Palin.
NO ROMNEY NO HUCKABEE!! I don’t know PAWLENTY that well to say!
What a nasty piece of work that RINO Romney is...
A coward to boot...
Forever testing the political water...
Next time Romney tries to convince primary voters
that he is a conservative, I hope they are not
so easily fooled.
IF MITT COULD RUN AND WIN AS A TRANSGENDERED HISPANIC
WOMAN, HE WOULD BE HAVING THE SURGERY RIGHT NOW!

Very telling that the corrupt MSM is now propping up Romney.
Brutus Romney is at it again.
Maybe Brutus will pick Newtus Agustus as his running mate.
See tagline.
And why is this a good thing that Romney would not help in this race to defeat a Democrat?
So he can get good press?
To me, one does not have to be “smart” to know if you kiss the arse of the Dems, you will get MSM fawning.
He is a life long liberal that actually left the Republican party in the 80s to protest President Reagan's conservatism, he didn't become a Republican again until he wanted to run for office in 1993, that was also the year that he quit doing fund raising for and making donations to only democrat candidates, although he has since been outed for fund raising for Planned Parenthood after those years.
Mitt Romney: Im not a partisan politician, he said in an interview with The Post that fall. My hope is that, after this election, it will be the moderates of both parties who will control the Senate, not the Jesse Helmses.
Scozzafava/Romney 2012
He failed last time, after spending 97 million dollars on his campaign, $42.3 million of which was his own money.
“Mark my words: Romney will buy the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.”
...and I will get out the popcorn and watch the GOP crash and burn.
Just go away please Romney. This guy is a new McCain. For some reason the media keeps a spotlight on him.
Frankly, everyone including Palin and Gingrich should have stayed the hell out of NY 23. It was just one congressional race best left to the locals.
I think Romney did show good judgement in staying the hell out.
He tried to by the last nomination, he sucked. He always does better in opinion polls and surveys than he actually does in votes.
McCain already tried that in the last election. Romney needs a new shtick. Alien overlord maybe?
That pretty much says it all about him!! How brave of him not to endorse a Conservative!!
He also said " My hope is that, after this election, it will be the moderates of both parties who will control the Senate..."
It will be a cold day in h*** before I ever pull the lever for this man.
The media will prop up Romney and once he gets the nomination start the “wierd cult religion” smear campaign.
The media loved McCain, once he got the nomination he was the psycho POW hell bent on destroying the world.
The media is nothing but predictable. Smearing Palin and conservatives and bucking up GOP “Mavericks”. Once they get the “Maverick” to win the GOP Nomination for President he becomes dumb, creepy, scary, etc.
Nixon - Creepy, scary
Goldwater - SCARY, creepy
Nixon - Creepy, scary
Ford - DUMB
Reagan - SCARY, dumb
Bush 1- Creepy
Dole - Creepy, dumb
Bush 2 - DUMB, scary
McCain - Creepy, scary
Based on this complex scientific model of the Media, here are the candidates for 2012 and if the nominee how they will be portrayed.
Palin - DUMB, DUMB, SCARY, Scary dumb
Romney - Scary, creepy, Mormon
Huckabee - Creepy, scary, Christian SCARY ( which makes him dumb)
Jindal - CREEPY, scary
You can use this simple tool for any GOP candidate. Boiled down to the essence of the liberal mind, anyone in the GOP is either dumb, creepy, or downright scary! Or a combination of both.
You forgot that, the minute Dole got the nomination, he was suddenly too old.
Rino Mitt will be “smartly” abandoned by a great many conservatives in 2010.
You are probably right, sadly.
It's all about Mitt Romney's ego, not about what would be good for our nation. He'll buy the nomination and lose in a spectacular fashion to Obama, who will then say that he has a mandate for his second term.
This is a game to Romney, a way to stoke his ego. It's just another thing to check off his list of "stuff to do". It has nothing to do with what's good for America or what advances conservatism (ha! as if he cares). It's not even about what's good for the GOP - if he has to, he'll gladly throw the GOP under the bus to advance himself.
It's all about what's good for Mitt Romney.
Sarah Palin isn't my favorite for 2012, but at least she did her best to support the conservative candidate. She did the ethically correct thing for which she should be thanked.
Even Newt Gingrich, whose action any decent conservative is diametrically opposed to, took a chance and committed to something.
Mitt Romney committed to nothing. He risked nothing. He is a coward of the worst kind.
I think Romney did show good judgment in staying the hell out.
Romney didn't "stay the hell out". He did nothing until it was completely safe to do so. At the last minute, he sent a donation to Hoffman (^).
See the difference?
Mitt Romney's inaction reminds me a great deal of President Obama's inaction in Afghanistan. Unwilling to do anything, paralyzed with fear, unable to commit to doing anything. In Obama we can see what a Romney presidency would look like.
A student of the corrupt MSM you are.
Mark mine. I'll never vote for Romney for any office.
You forgot that, the minute Dole got the nomination, he was suddenly too old.
_________
I put old into the “creepy” category, along with not being “hip”, just to keep it at the basic 3 dumb, creepy and scary.
Anything else is a variation, religious means scary or dumb, un-hip can be creepy or scary, etc.
“Scozzafava/Romney 2012”
Yeah, why not put the SLIGHTLY smarter one at the top of the ticket ???
:)
What about the sheer “bravery” and the nation saving “courageousness” Mitt exemplified by endorsing Bob McDonnell last Wednesday when McDonnell was clinging to just an 18 point lead? I mean gosh, Carl Cameron breathlessly reported that the McDonnell campaign was “bringing in the big guns of the GOP” with Romney’s crucial endorsement.
