Fall Of The Wall? U.S. Sends Regrets
Investors Business Daily ^ | November 4, 2009 | IBD editorial staff

Cold War: The White House has announced our absence at ceremonies marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Meanwhile, Russia has been practicing a nuclear invasion of an abandoned Poland.

The Berlin Wall has been a famous backdrop for American presidents sounding the battle cry of liberty in the struggle against tyranny. It was there that John F. Kennedy expressed our solidarity with the encircled residents of that outpost of freedom with his famous "Ich bin ein Berliner." And it was there that Ronald Reagan, with a defiant "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall," voiced our determination not to merely contain or get along with Soviet Communism, but to defeat it.

On Nov. 9, 1989, the people of Berlin did just that, secure in the knowledge that an economically and militarily revived America had their back. But that was then and this is now.

Today, American leaders travel the world expressing their regrets for our alleged past transgressions, and American exceptionalism is no longer part of our vocabulary. We're just another one of the gang, sandwiched alphabetically between Uganda and Upper Volta, whose votes cancel ours in an international community to which we pledge our fealty.

Obama: “I could not possibly appear at an event where people might actually think about the heroic and courageous actions of someone other than me. Instead would you consider showing the HBO special about my historic election campaign on a big screen for all the Berliners?”

Today, American leaders travel the world expressing their regrets for our alleged past transgressions, and American exceptionalism is no longer part of our vocabulary.

There's an easy fix for that - we can appease foreign nations' derision of all things American by not coming to their aid the next time. We can be just like the other countries they want us to be by turning our backs on them the next time Europe or Asia, or some Islamic country needs help and simply explain, "sorry, we're re-arranging our collective sock drawers this year and simply can't be bothered coming to free your sorry a$$ from whatever tyrant has taken you over."

I'll bet the rest of the world will REALLY love us then!!!

As for those "leaders" who feel the need to apologize to the rest of the world for who/what we are, there's a place saved in an unemployment line for them in the VERY near future!!!

(Idiots!! Their arrogance and sanctimony are beyond disgraceful!!!)

Having seen your post, it reminds me that this is exactly what Charles DeGaulle did in France after we helped liberate France from the Nazis. He was so jealous of America and American influence in France, he threw us all out of France and forced us to abandon the few military bases we had their to protect France while they rebuilt!!!

He couldn't stand the fact that most French credited Eisnhower and America with freeing them from Hitler.

Obama, like many leftists, does not believe that the fall of European communism was a good thing. The Left is no doubt happy that Obama isn’t going to show.

Or, maybe just an addition to the pile of evidence to be used at the military tribunal.

Obama can’t afford to tick off the neo-Soviets in the Kremlin. He wants to have tea with Putin and Medviev on a daily basis (and lick their boots), and even a few rounds of Golf. And a discussion on Leninist politics for good measure.

Obviously, the wall is not there anymore :) If Barry had his way, it would still be there.

Calling him human is making an assumption.

Obama could have at least had the courtesy to send Bush 1. But I suppose his ego wouldn’t let him.

For 0bozo, this was the easiest decision of his entire sorry ass administration so far. The socialist-fascist-commie pig usurper 0bozo doesn't believe in individual freedom or rights bestowed on us from our Creator....so why would the commie pig 0bozo choose to celebrate liberty & freedom at the Berlin Wall. The commie bastard 0bozo simply doesn't believe in these fundamental values or individual rights.

Great idea. If Obama is too good to commemorate a historic victory for freedom, then the GOP should send Palin! Not only will it embarrass the turd world socialist in chief, it will destroy the euros and their idiot impressions of Sarah.

Gee, Obama's friends are enemies of America and Obama's enemies are old friends of America. We are seeing strange days as he takes America into the realm of Socialist countries and worse.

When do the re-education camps open, comrad?

Obama is skipping the event because he is a communist sympathizer.

I cannot believe we have such a dangerous and irresponsible narcissist running our Republic.

He’s turned his back on Honduras, Poland, and the Czech Republic in favor of Socialist and Communist despotism.

He’s selling out our Allies. He and his champions claim that he’s put America in a positive light “again”. Selling out our Allies and siding with dictators is NOT a positive trait.

Why would a Communist celebrate the tearing down of the Communist Wall?

Besides, he probably has better things to do - like watching more fawning reruns of his election and erecting a new Communist Wall of Tyranny in America!
