Obama misses DAR's Continental Congress
Conservative Woman ^ | 11-04-2009 | Julie Smith

Posted on 11/04/2009 4:50:42 PM PST by plain talk

Not something that would make national headlines, but did not miss a stunned audience, President Barack Obama became the first American president in 118 years to abstain from the same long tradition of addressing the Daughters Of the American Revolution (DAR) Continental Congress, named after the governing body of the American Colonies during the American Revolution.

Presidential greetings were in fact first initiated during the year 1910, 100 years ago not 118 years ago.

OK so he is the first President in a 100 years to not send a rep or show up. DAR is a conservative org so they don't count I suppose. My understanding based on inside information is that at the opening they allowed 3 minutes for the WH rep to show up for the keynote address. 3 minutes of silence was allowed and then they went ahead and skipped the traditional keynote address. Incredible.

Despicable. But what else can you expect?
He sends the Bust of Churchill back to Britain, shuns the celebration of the fall of Communism (looking for his crying towel,no doubt),and now this.
He could not be bothered less. He's such a small, pathetic man.

Zero also disrespected the observance of the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Angela Merkel invited him to be there and he was too busy being a crying Kenyan tittie baby to go. (Props to Imus for calling O a “tittie baby” recently)

Zero is now officially on the “ittie bitty tittie committee”. (stole that from another Freeper)

No, he couldn’t be bothered with the Berlin Wall anniversary celebration. Things that have deep meaning to most Americans are not on his radar screen. All he has time to do is traipse around the world and tell people how rotten this country is, and apologize. And watch documentaries about himself on TV.

Do you happen to know, genealogically speaking, if Ann Dunham would have been eligible for membership in the DAR?

Don't her & her son's ancestors go back to pre-Revolutionary America? Thanks.

from the link’s website:
“What could have been so important in the President’s schedule that would make him miss, in my words dis, Continental Congress? President Obama was meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Russian President Medvedev at the Kremlin and instead addressed the 2009 graduating class of the New Economic School at Gostinny Dvor and later met world leaders at the G8 Summit.”

obviously he had his priorities...cough, cough...

Best I can tell Ann Dunham would have been eligible for Colonial Dames (both societies operating under that name), and it'd been a cakewalk for her to get into the DAR.

With a little bit of work I think there's a case that whole crowd would be eligible for membership in the Oneida Indian tribe (and I may well pursue my own application for that ~ btw, all that information is "secret" so I'm not going to upset the applecart by revealing all that I know.)

Obama's grandmother had one of the most illustrious genealogies anyone in America could have. It's all on the internet back to the Revolution, and in parts earlier. I have much of the information regarding individuals named in the earliest parts of that genealogy and can take a good deal of it back to Scandinavia and France (which is the part in which I've been specializing).

I don’t know.

Most people in the United States have pre-Revolutionary Colonial ancestors, but may not know it. Just off the top of the head, I’ve got at least five different family lines that go back that far, and at least four out of five of them served to overthrow British monarchic rule.

Of course, everyone has ancestors as old as everyone else’s, but that’s a different discussion... ;’)

He boasted of it at one time. He was schooled abroad and has seemed resentful of the American system.

He lied about his parents coming together 5 years AFTER his birth (5 years+9months after they did it) because of what happened in Selma Alabama.

He spins myths about this nation but does not celebrate anything about it.

He already has a list.

The DAR members should now know that Obama is indeed an enemy of the Republic, and of conservatives inn particular.Obama will destroy every one of them if he can.

His real problem: MILLIONS of people now have Obama and his party

All of them chomping at the bit in anticipation of sending a message

The Berlin wall was definitely on his radar screen. He intentionally dissed the event. To understand why, one need look no further that who uttered the words "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall."

Republican strategists should be keeping a list of all of the events and people he dissed and those he honored with his presence. It could make for excellent campaign ads in 2012.

Yep, everybody's ancestors are OLD, but not everybody's old ancestors were in America in pre-Revolutionary times.

I've read that if you have ancestors that were here previous to 1690, then, due to the entire population of people being so small, that you are related to every other American currently alive who also can trace their ancestry back to a person living in America previous to 1690 - and I believe that I read that Barack Obama's American ancestry DOES go back there, and so although he may not be interested -- but some day his daughters might be interested in this. And all of them would be be related to many millions of Americans, who simultaneous are all related to oneanother through those very early ancestral connections.

Perhaps I did not express that well. Things that have deep meaning to most Americans do not have deep meaning to him. So, yes, he intentionally snubbed the celebrations because to him, THE FACT THAT WE WON THE COLD WAR, that all those people were freed, is unimportant, unworthy of his time. He would prefer they were still living under the communist boot, and he thinks this would be a better place if we did. It is as if he is from a different country, and has no love of ours, nor any appreciation for its achievements. Also, he would rather have his tongue ripped out than credit Reagan or any of the other Cold Warriors with their achievements. What a petty bastard, in the true sense of the word. Oh, and long laundry lists don’t make good campaign ads.

I recall hearing Peter Robinson of Reagan's staff (speechwriter?
assistant?) tell how Dept. of State reviewers told Reagan
he couldn't say that.
And that when Reagan resubmitted it back to Dept. of State,
he had left it in the draft.

(It's been maybe a decade since I heard the interview...but
I'm pretty sure it was Dept. of State weinies that were trying
to tell Reagan to not make The Bear angry)

I didn't realize there were two distinct Colonial Dames organizations; however, insofar and Ann Dunham and her son and her granddaughters Malia and Sasha - they'd all be eligible for membership, right? -- I was certain I'd read something like that on a geneology website. I've also read, I think here at FR, that almost anyone who has any 18th century Southern ancestors, either white or black, that the chances are like 98% that you also have a Native American ancestor, most are Cherokee, but there's lot of other southeastern tribes, too.

Your French connections, are they Huguenot? Don't you (also) have ties to New Sweden, or is that another freeper?

Eleanor Roosevelt quit the DAR, right? Because they refused to allow Mahalia Jackson to perform, was that the correct incident?

That is absolutely fascinating about the Oneida ancestry, that sounds extremely complex!
