President Barack Obama has brushed aside a sharp rebuke at the polls on the first anniversary of his historic election, saying his administration had saved the nation from economic ruin.
Just hours after rival Republicans gleefully ousted Democratic candidates in two key gubernatorial races, the White House dismissed suggestions that the results were a referendum on Obama and his policies.
Republicans trumpeted Tuesday's victories in New Jersey and Virginia as a conservative comeback one year to the day after Obama vowed before a tumultuous crowd in Chicago that change had come to America.
But Obama reminded a school audience in northern Wisconsin on Wednesday - one of the states that swept him to victory over Republican John McCain - of the political landscape and economic outlook on November 4, 2008.
"One year ago, Americans all across this country went to the polls and cast ballots for the future they wanted to see," he told the cheering crowd in the Madison school.
"Election day was a day of hope, it was a day of possibility, but it was also a sobering one because we knew even then that we faced an array of challenges that would test us as a country."
But Republicans hope that Tuesday's victories will help turn the tide as they look ahead to key mid-term elections in 2010.
The "overwhelming" victory in Virginia "sends a clear signal that voters have had enough of the president's liberal agenda," Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said.
Obama was swept to power promising change as the United States confronted its worst economic crisis in decades, and with US troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He made it clear that he would not be diverted from his program. "The work continues, but we are moving in the right direction," he said.

He better start practicing on snubbing his problems, Larry Sinclair is running for Congress

Sometimes I think this guy has no political instinct at all. A little humility would have gone a long way here. It would go a long way in many of these instances but he seems incapable of showing it. Don't get me wrong, I like that he has these weaknesses and I hope our side exploits them to no end. Just as a spectator of human behavior, you can not help but wonder why he doesn't just do the obvious sometimes.
What an ass.
It doesn’t take a Harvard grad to run up trillions in debt and thus “stimulate” the economy.
Michael Dukakis said in the 1988 debates that he too could write a check for 200 billion, and fake prosperity. How much more can you for 1.4 trillion.
ObamaFraud!
It is.
George Valliant wrote an article on the hierarchy of ego defense mechanisms. Reaction formation is considered one of the primitive ego defense mechanisms along with splitting, projection, and denial.
He says he’ll create or save jobs; apparently not in NJ. Our unemployment got worse: our governor lost his job, despite the Naked Emperor personally intervening to “save” it.
” his administration had saved the nation from economic ruin”.
Marxist punk thinks he can feeed thousands with a fish or two and that he can walk on water.
What an ass.
I wouldn’t let the bozo walk me dog.
I could be posting this to everyone on the thread since you’re all nailing the point so well. This is just one incident in a series of episodes that continue to reinforce the fact that this administration is completely disfuctional at all levels.
He hasn’t saved any economy other than the bottom line of Goldman Sachs.
Obama’s reaction is not just a show. Sociopaths are immune to criticism of any sort. They shrug it off with ease. Witness Obama’s arrogance watching an HBO special- on himself - instead of watching the election returns. He promised transparency , and we are getting transparency. His every move is that of a classic sociopath.
You have to wonder? And if someone did say that (I have to believe someone did, they can not all be this stupid) did he then say, "No, this IS the proper response--I need to portray myself as the complete socipathic, callous, disconnected asshole that I am"
I just can not fathom what is going on over there...
Ohaha was castrated on Tuesday and he still doesn't know it? Well, maybe when Michele asks for sex, the reality will kick in....... (/snic).
Here's a couple reminders when the Ovomitons say the elections meant nothing to Ohaha.
CAUGHT ON TAPE: White House press secretary---and resident liar, Robert Gibbs---has also said the elections don't "mean much" to Ohaha----that O was watching a docu on himself---NOT the returns.
THE OVOMITONS WERE DESPERATE TO WIN NJ Obama went to New Jersey three times---Biden was there twice.
The NY Times reported :
(a) every TV ad Corzine put on the air was being screened by Obama's WH team.
(b) Corzine's aides gave the WH daily briefings.
(c) Obamas pollsters took over for Corzines polling team, and,
(d) White House operatives were on the ground for everything from internal strategy sessions to secret, obscure pep rallies with Latinoes, (still toweling off after swimming the Rio Grande).
Corzine had a "Peruvian PAC" endorsing him. Latino invaders from Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and Spain are currently "registered" to vote in NJ (or being trucked in election day) under several names.......all voting for Corzine under several identities.
To further the Ovomiton's vision of a Democrat (gag) Century, Ohahas Chicago buddies needed to mfg the votes needed to win. Stashing piles of votes that suddenly appear in used pizza boxes.......... and scribbling Vota Corzine on Taco Bell burrito wrappers.
Ohaha hid $17.5 BILLION stimulus in NJ---it disappeared and could not be traced---b/c the stimulus was intended not for creating jobs, but for Corzine's reelection kitty.
NOTE The WH still has not spent 85% of the stim----buzz is Ohaha is saving it for Dem candidates 2010 elections.
O my! I checked out his website—some interesting stuff there.
