Speaker Pelosis Government-Run Health Plan Will Require a Monthly Abortion Premium
Health care reform should not be used as an opportunity to use federal funds to pay for elective abortions. Health reform should be an opportunity to protect human life - not end it.
Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosis 2,032-page government takeover of health care does just that. On line 17, p. 110, section 222 under Abortions for which Public Funding is Allowed the Health and Human Services Secretary is given the authority to determine when abortion is allowed under the government-run plan. The Speakers plan also requires that at least one insurance plan offered in the Exchange covers abortions.
What is even more alarming is that a monthly abortion premium will be charged of all enrollees in the government-run plan. Its right there on line 16, page 96, section 213, under Insurance Rating Rules. The premium will be paid into a U.S. Treasury account - and these federal funds will be used to pay for the abortion services.
Section 213 describes the process in which the Health Benefits Commissioner is to assess the monthly premiums that will be used to pay for elective abortions under the government-run plan. The Commissioner must charge at a minimum $1 per enrollee per month.
A majority of Americans believe that health care plans should not be mandated to provide elective abortion coverage, and a majority of Americans do not believe government health care plans should include abortion coverage. Currently, federal appropriations bills include language known as the Hyde Amendment that prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for elective abortions under the Medicare and Medicaid programs, while another provision, known as the Smith Amendment, prohibits federal funding of abortion under the federal employees health benefits plan.
Speaker Pelosis 2,032-page health care monstrosity is an affront to the American people and drastically moves away from current policy. The American people deserve more from their government than being forced to pay for abortion.
House Republicans are offering a common-sense, responsible solution that would reduce health care costs and expand access while protecting the dignity of all human life. The Republican plan, available at HealthCare.GOP.gov, would codify the Hyde Amendment and prohibit all authorized and appropriated federal funds from being used to pay for abortion. And under the Republican plan, any health plan that includes abortion coverage may not receive federal funds.

So they will tax condoms to pay for abortions?
Sounds like a "one of us has got to go, so..." kind of approach by AARP.
The so called Catholic Rep Brian Higgins won’tcare
Hey....any port in a storm. Maybe they could put meters on them.
Only the liberals could come up with something so evil it would pit the elderly vs. the unborn.
The Dems ain’t going to allow abortion to not be covered. They view abortion as sacrosanct!
AARP is a sick joke.

She has already excommunicated herself by going against her Bishop’s instructions.
Then that Bishop needs to publicize it.
Let's see how they feel when they are denied life saving medical treatment or only allowed minimum medication because they do not meet the requirements the government has set.
“Well Ms Smith, because of your age (or fill in the blank) we can only allow you this treatment/medication even though there is a much better treatment/medication available, I'm sorry but you do not meet the requirements allowed to receive it. But, let us know if you need an abortion because the government supports your right to do what you want with your body.... NEXT....}
The Hyde Amendment was not allowed to be voted on in committee, Rep. Stupak denied, though the Capps Amendment mandating federal funding of abortions was adopted. Rep. Stupak was also denied the ability to introduce the amendment to the Floor for a vote, he has told Pelosi that if the Hyde language is not a part of whatever health care reform bill is presented for vote, he has the pro-life votes to kill it. He assured her that should the Senate send over a bill that doesn't include the Hyde language (at this point, it doesn't), with no amendments allowed, simply up-or-down, he and the pro-life contingency will defeat that legislation as well. There are enough pro-life Dems to defeat this atrocity, even if a stupid few Republicans in the House decide to slit their employment throats, there are more pro-life Dems than there are pro-death GOP.
Anyway, the bottom line is, the funds for the HealthScam would be checks drawn on the U.S. Treaury, which sho'nuff is Federal funding, but it's not technically HHS funding.
Lawyers=liars.
I believe that is specifically why Rep. Stupak insists on the Hyde language being a part of this legislation, to countermand the “It’s not HHS appropriations” baloney.
First, I adamantly oppose it and always will. It is wrong in every respect.
Throwing all that aside, let’s look at abortion from a purely objective perspective. Those who are getting the abortions are mostly those who are irresponsible - the liberals. If abortion is banned, those of us who are responsible will be outbred, and hence, eventually outvoted by those who are irresponsible. In fact, it is only a matter of time before responsible citizens will be the minority. Look at all the “families” who have many kids from multiple fathers. They typically will grow up to be liberals. I pride myself on being a positive thinker in all matters, but I do not know how this will be prevented.
Now, backing out of this twisted logic, no taxpayer money should ever be used for this attrocity, and it should be considered murder at all levels. How is it that a felon will be charged with two murders if killing a pregnant woman, yet the fetus is not considered a human being for abortion purposes? Simply stupid. But that’s our politicans.
Well said! My thoughts, exactly. Stupid cows.
Don't kid yourself. People across the political spectrum get abortions --- sad but true --- and often it's motivated by a twasted kind of social conservatism, e.g. not wanting to bring shame to your conservative parents via an out-of-wedlock childbirth (this was told me by a pastor's daughter); or, having a productive personal career arc that you don't want to have complicated or derailed by untimely childbearing.
There are, moreover, women of every political persuasion who get abortions. And from every church. I won't say which church: it could be your church.
As long as the temptation is right there, right out front, there are women who will succumb to it. And men who will pressure them into doing so, too.
It's not just "the underclass." It's not just people who are so very "different from you and me."
Would someone post a link to the 2032 page bill?
Wonderful! You make a terrific point.
If abortion is a so-called "private decision between a woman and her doctor" then she or the guy who got her pregnant should pay for it. Taxpayers are not expected to pay for nose jobs, face lifts, boob jobs or other such private medical procedures decided between a woman and her doctor. Why should abortion be funded with public money if it's a private decision?
Pelosi will NEVER step down she must be fired before she takes the money and runs.
