What I would like to know is who promoted him? Making rank is rough even for the best of us. How did an anti-Christian, anti-American nutjob like this Hasan joker get past all the psychological evaluations? One doesn't wake up one morning and hate the United States sooooo much you set out to kill scores of people. You have got to have a predisposition for such an act. How was it missed?
Have they changed the vetting so much that now anyone can become a Major the same way they've lowered the requirements so that women can enter the fire department or a police force? Has it gotten to the point where anyone can be a Major in our military the same way that now all students can jointly be Valedictorian of their senior class at the same time?

Forgive me. I'm lost. Our country has thrown common sense out the window with the baby and bathwater.

Most doctors are automatic Captains in Army. Some, depending on experience, can be Majors coming out of civilian life.

Military officials say the suspected shooter at Fort Hood was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July.

The officials had access to Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan's military record. They said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because military records are confidential.

Federal law enforcement officials say the Hasan came to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats.

The Virginia-born soldier was single with no children. He was 39 years old.

He is a graduate of Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. At Walter Reed, he did his internship, residency and a fellowship.

Keep in mind that as a psychologist, this guy would have entered the Army as a Captain, so even a PFC has been promoted more times than he has been. If the Army personnel folks who manage medical officers determined the Army had a critical need for people in his professional field, his promotion would have been virtually automatic with time in grade unless he really stepped on his d!ck with golf shoes.

Needles to say, at this point, his reduction in grade to PV1 is virtually a sure thing as well.
