I have seen reports that the shooter was a convert. So it could be a black muslim or even a white Muslim.

I think they were embarrassed because they turned the cameras on too soon. The first remarks were actually the last remarks of the Indian Tribal Conference he attended today. The he talked about Fort Hood. Still, very unbecoming to switch from jovial to fake seriousness. He’s an a-hole.

It's a greeting or an acknowledgment of someone's presence. Certainly not something that would be appropriate under such dire and solemn circumstances as these.
I couldn’t believe it! Talk about crass. He lacks any sort of decorum befitting the office of the Presidency.
