How a legacy of duty ties service members throughout time
http://www.svherald.com/content/news/2009/11/05/how-legacy-duty-ties-service-members-throughout-time

Pvt. Brett Reidt, 17, of Company A, 305th Military Intelligence Battalion, right, and World War II Army veteran John Roach, 100, of Sierra Vista cut a cake at Wednesdays annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon hosted by the Greater Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerces Military Affairs Committee. The pair were the youngest and oldest soldiers at the event. (Bill Hess Herald/Review)
By Bill Hess Herald/Review
FORT HUACHUCA Every veteran has a legacy link that connects soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines back to the days when the United States was fighting for its independence, Sierra Vista Councilman Tom Reardon said.
I think veterans are a special breed, the retired Army chief warrant officer said.
Speaking at the annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon hosted by the Greater Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerces Military Affairs Committee, Reardon said every veteran has a legacy link that goes all the way back to Lexington in 1775.
He was referring to the first battle streamer of nearly 200 that adorns the Army flag and is always the one that is front and center when the banner is displayed. Reardon told a number of vignettes to show the special linkage to legacy.
One was about a noncommissioned officer he knew while serving in Belgium.
That soldier had to go to Germany to appear before an NCO board and when driving back to Belgium, he stopped in a small town named Bastogne.
The soldier was overwhelmed by the people who patted his shoulder patch which showed he had served in combat, in Vietnam, with the 101st Airborne.
The NCO did not recognize he was appreciated because he belonged to the unit that protected that town from Nazi attack in the Battle of the Bulge, he said.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Where History Comes Alive
When your children say to you, What do you mean by this service? . . . you shall say, It is the Passover. Exodus 12:26-27
The movie Night at the Museum portrays the humorous experiences of a security guard at a natural history museum. The excitement begins for him when the displays come to life at night.
Inspired by this movie, directors of a real museum created a similar experience. The staff portrayed historic figures such as knights in armor, Victorian ladies, and Egyptian royalty. When children arrived at the museum, they were told that the people in the exhibits had come alive and needed to be led back to their proper place. As the children responded, history came alive for them.
Children need not be bored by history. This is especially true of Bible stories. Take Moses, for example. He escaped death as a child, was educated as a prince, worked miracles, and received the Ten Commandments on tablets. What exciting story elements that teach children about God!
Biblical stories have been shared with children for generationsall the way back to the times of Exodus (ch.1213) and Deuteronomy (ch.6). Moses described times when children were retold vital stories from Jewish history.
Why not set a time to read Bible stories to the children in your life? Then watch their excitement as biblical history comes alive!
The stories in the Word of God
Are there for us to see
How God has worked in peoples lives
Throughout all history. Sper
