I want to thank my Cabinet members and senior administration officials who participated today. I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow (ph) was around, and so I want to give a shout out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. It's good to see you.

My understanding is is that you had an extremely productive conference. I want to thank all of you for coming and for your efforts, and I want to give you my solemn guarantee that this is not the end of a process, but the beginning of a process and that we are going to follow up.

We are going to follow up. Every single member of my team understands that this is a top priority for us. I want you to know that, as I said this morning, this -- this is not something that we just give lip service to. And we are going to keep on working with you to make sure that the first Americans (ph) get the best possible chances in life in a way that's consistent with your extraordinary traditions and culture and values.
Now, I have to say, though, that beyond that, I had planned to make some broader remarks about the challenges that lay ahead for Native Americans as well as collaboration with our administration.
But as some of you might have heard, there has been a tragic shooting at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas. We don't yet know all the details at this moment. We will share them as we get them.

Disturbing to say the least. At that time he made the speech Obama KNEW at least 12 soldiers were dead and another 30 or so wounded. No doubt he also knew the last name of the shooter....
My final complaint; the CMO recipient he named never received the CMO, he received a civilian version by Obama himself. What a slap in the face of every CMO recipient that earned the CMO in combat.
Then why is he tryinhg tomove proven terrorists froom GITMO to the Navy Brig in Chaleston, SC? Jim DeMint is FURIOUS over it. We have had quite enough of Muslim berzerkers let loose on the US public and our military.
Protection of America from Muslims? I don't believe an effing word of it. He is lying again.

I saw this on TV last nite and I was dumfounded at what I heard. I thought he was doing a campaign speech, even while he know of the tragedy at Ft. Hood. What a bastard!

I was watching when he made these remarks. Couldn’t believe all that jive he did at the beginning.
But the quote you picked up was the one that really made my jaw drop:
“I want all of you to know that as commander-in-chief, there’s no greater honor, but also no greater responsibility for me than to make sure that the extraordinary men and women in uniform are properly cared for.... “
Note the construction of that statement.
He made it ABOUT HIM. Honor...for ME. Responsibility...for ME. I make sure....
The “extraordinary men and women” were reduced to the object of HIS responsibility.
Picky perhaps. But read aloud and in full, the entire sentence was about HIM, not the soldiers.
Oh, one other thing.
Could maybe some politician....ANY politician...PLEASE express a little ANGER along with all those condolences we’ve been hearing?

But as some of you might have heard, there has been a tragic shooting at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas. We don’t yet know all the details at this moment. We will share them as we get them.
What we do know is that a number of American soldiers have been killed, and even more have been wounded in a horrific outburst of violence.
My immediate thoughts and prayers are with the wounded and with the families of the fallen and with those who live and serve at Fort Hood.
These are men and women who have made the selfless and courageous decision to risk and at times give their lives to protect the rest of us on a daily basis.
It’s difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas.
It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an Army base on American soil.
I’ve spoken to Secretary Gates and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, and I will continue to receive a constant stream of updates as new information comes in.
We are working with the Pentagon, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, all to ensure that Fort Hood is secure and we will continue to support the community with the full resources of the federal government. In the meantime, I would ask all Americans to keep the men and women of Fort Hood in your thoughts and prayers. We will make sure that we get answers to every single question about this horrible incident, and I want all of you to know that as commander-in-chief, there’s no greater honor, but also no greater responsibility for me than to make sure that the extraordinary men and women in uniform are properly cared for an that their safety and security when they are at home is provided for.
So we are going to stay on this, but I hope in the meantime that all of you recognize the scope of this tragedy and keep everybody in their thoughts and prayers.
As much as I dislike Bummer, he was speaking at a conference when he made the above comments about Ft Hood. I’m not sure how much more he could have said, based on the info he had at the time he spoke. jmo

Had he opened up with those remarks, that would be one thing. But he spoke for 2.5 minutes before making those comments.

Considering that he IS their BOSS, yeah he is responsible for their well being. Having said that, has he taken that responsibility and made sure that our troops if Afghanistan and Iraq have everything they need to ensure their safety and to do their jobs in a safe manner? THAT is the question. jmo
Word. I wish we could ban the use of the “T” word when it comes to outrage like this. A classic tragedy is when the hero falls due to a flaw in an otherwise good character.
This stem was flawed to the bone by his bogus religion.
Somebody slapped a few sentences together and told him he better say something. He couldn’t even READ it right. He had NO IDEA what was going on, and furthermore, HE DID NOT CARE!
In fact, he was probably pi$$sed because some dead soldiers interfered with his great American reach out. It was supposed to glorify him, not be a 3 AM phone call which he never answered.
It was disgusting. The thing about him being “honored” to be CiC was not in the notes. He said it automatically from a rote speech he gives to and about the military. It was a stumble and then he had to cover it up with the responsibility thing that was actually what was written.
He had about as much compassion as a dead flea.
It would have been rude to not have addressed the audience and acknowledge them first.
Be thankful that he at least spent most of the time speaking about Ft Hood.
The Jugeared Jackass not only spent two minutes talking about some minor, mundane conference and giving his idiotic “shout out” before addressing the breaking event, his shout out was wrong. Joe Medicine Crow never won the Medal of Honor. The Kenyan Cretin is surpassing Jimmy Carter as the worst, least informed, least intelligent President in history.
I thought it was nice of him to fill in the rest of us that had not heard anything about this "tragedy".
If he had delayed and not spoken about Ft Hood until the situation was stabilized, I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would happened then! Face it, no matter what he did it wouldn't have been enough for you.

It was clear that the TOTUS was missing in action. Once he got to the serious stuff, he was stammering and unable to speak except when reading from his script.

I agree and by saving it for later in his speech it remains in people's minds more, and allows them to go right into prayer mode. If he had spoke of it first, then went into the conference results, people would have been thinking about the conference and not had the time to say prayers. jmo

Dr Joe Medicine Crow is an interesting character who did serve in the US armed forces during WW2, but he is not a Congressional Medal of Honor “winner” (what is it - a lottery prize?)
On June 25, 2008, he received two military decorations, the Bronze Star and the Légion d’honneur (an award from France, not the Congress of the US)
WASHINGTON, July 24 — Sen. Jon Tester, D-Montana, has introduced the Dr. Joseph Medicine Crow Congressional Gold Medal Act (S. 3283), legislation that would “award a congressional gold medal to Dr. Joseph Medicine Crow, in recognition of his especially meritorious role as a warrior of the Crow Tribe, Army Soldier in World War II, tribal historian, and author.”
The bill, introduced on July 17, was co-sponsored by Sens. Max Baucus, D-Montana, and Mike Enzi, R-Wyoming. It was referred to the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee.
The bill has not passed.
Joseph Medicine Crow received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the U.S.A.’s highest civilian honor) from President Barack Obama on August 12, 2009.
Does Obama have a clue about the meaning of military honors? Does he know which medal he awarded? Does he have anyone on staff with a clue?
Obama doesn’t know the difference between the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Presidential Medal.
Of course, the ‘blue button’ is a class unto itself, even if awarded by the honor-less.

In case you missed the somber and thoughtful remarks the Obamessiah made in his address to the nation yesterday about the Ft Hood shooting rampage. I’m sure the troops felt the enormous concern from their Commander-in-Chief.
He didn’t even need to speak at the conference after what happened.
He should have held a separate press conference about the shootings, even if he had to go outside to do it.

was really a diversion to keep our minds and media
off the thousands of HR3962 protesters who stormed the
capitol with Michele Bachmann.

He certainly should have had a seperate Presser, but Obama is using this incident to further destroy US morale in its war with Afghanistan.
Obama is not going to last much longer IMHO. He either walks out of the WH or will likely exit in a pine box IMHO. Obama has to decide whether he is American or not, and its actually almost too late.
