Pelosi's Suicide Pact: A death panel for the Democratic majority
The Wall Street Journal ^ | November 5, 2009 | James Taranto

Posted on 11/06/2009 3:40:46 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The voters be damned: That seems to be Speaker Nancy Pelosi's attitude in the wake of big Democratic losses on Tuesday. "House Democratic leaders, undeterred by delays in the Senate or this week's Republican electoral triumphs, plan to call a vote Saturday on the most sweeping overhaul of U.S. health-care policy in four decades," Bloomberg reports:

The House will move on the $1.05 trillion legislation that would cover 36 million uninsured people and create a government plan to compete with private insurers even after the election of Republican governors in New Jersey and Virginia. President Barack Obama will go to Capitol Hill tomorrow to meet with House Democrats, as they seek the 218 votes they need to pass the bill, a Democratic leadership aide said.

Politico reports that "leaders expect a close vote, with a one-or two-vote margin, and no Rs." They plan to pass this monstrosity without bipartisan support and with the bare minimum of support from their own party. "Pelosi has reportedly told fellow Democrats that she's prepared to lose seats in 2010 if that's what it takes to pass ObamaCare," The Wall Street Journal reports. Is she mad?

No, not really. Or we should say only ideologically, in that she loves the monstrous idea of socialized medicine. Given that, though, her actions make perfect sense in terms of practical politics. After all, this is likely to be the high-water mark for liberal Democrats. They're likely to lose House seats next year anyway, and there's no guarantee President Obama will be re-elected. At 69, Pelosi stands a good chance of facing a death panel before she leads a majority of this size again.

Besides, her seat is in no jeopardy.(continued)

Not really: the first three years simply increase taxes without any benefits.

That being the case, it could easily be gone by ‘12, along with most, if not all, of the dems.

She truly is insane. By passing this without the Senate doing likewise will insure that the Dems are the minority party in the House after the 2010 election. She won’t be minority leader. The Dems will be so unhappy about the huge losses that they may shoot her on the steps of the Capitol.

If both houses pass this monster, the Dems will lose both houses in the next election. If this passes, unemployment will hit 15% by mid 2010.

"We had record deficits, two wars, frayed alliances around the world," Obama added. He said his administration had acted swiftly to save the economy from "imminent collapse." "While we still have a long way to go, we have made meaningful progress toward achieving that goal," he said

Saved the economy from collapse? Didn't Bush do that before BO won office and asked for all these problems to fix? He didn't inherit them he was in the Senate, he knew about them and ran on he being able to fix them. And now our budget deficit has tripled, from 454B under Bush to 1.2 trillion 10 months later and 5% umemployment under Bush to now doubled at 10.2%.

Good job BO you have made it worse and all you do is complain about a job you wanted, you bought for millions and lied to get elected?

Latest word is, Vote pushed back to Monday, maybe Tuesday

So the dogs are on the run! Keep after 'em!

ACTION ALERT

With handy, clickable contact information

Here are all the Blue Dog Democrats. The clickable links go to their online Message System. You can use this local district information --- City, State, Zip, and Area Codes-- to get through their spam filter. If they ask for a Zip+4, you can use any 4 digits added onto the indicated Zip Code.

The way I do it is, first copy all this information into a different (word) program. Then copy the line that has the city, zip, etc. for that particular district. The click the HTTP thingie to get into the Message System. Then paste the info. into one of the blanks, and point and drag the city, zip, etc. onto the correct lines.

Go get ‘em.

I got an email from Booby Bright, D-AL, my congressman and a very conservative democrat. He said, as follows:

Last week, House leadership introduced the Affordable Health Care for America Act, the latest version of the health care reform bill. The changes made were not significant enough to earn my support. From the beginning of this debate, I have been opposed to the government option and any legislation that puts additional burdens on our small businesses and tax-paying citizens. H.R. 3962 contains a government option and surcharges and mandates on small businesses and individuals. People and small businesses across the country are struggling to make ends meet and this is no time to place additional burdens on them.

I believe we do need health care cost reform, but cost reform that doesn’t fundamentally change a system with which most Americans are satisfied. I fear this bill will not reduce long-term costs, and our debt and deficits will suffer and balloon in the years ahead. I will vote no on the Affordable Health Care for America Act when it comes to the floor for consideration unless it is drastically changed.

I hope, for his sake, he switches to Republican. Come next year, despite his votes against the Peolsi agenda (he voted against Cap and Trade), I vowed to never vote for a democrat again.

BUMP to dragging it out. Some pundits are saying that, with Thanksgiving Day and Christmas coming, the government takeover of healthcare may be pushed into 2010.

And if it is, Cap & Trade will be pushed even further.

We need to keep pounding them and spreading the word.

Mark Steyn put it best in one of his columns. He re-iterated the point yesterday afternoon while subbing for Rush.

Judging from what he’s seen of Euroland and Kanuckistan, once government holds the power of life and death over it’s citizens, it’s all over. From then on, government owns us and the party of government tends to be in charge at least 95% of the time with the “Social Conservatives,” “Christian Democrats,” “Gaullists,” or other supposed conservative parties kept around for show.

Pelosi, Reid and Obama know this and don’t mind a few years of temporary electoral pain in the immediate aftermath. The leadership is secure. It’s just a matter of getting those pesky blue dogs to commit suicide in the short-term.

The only question is whether or not the blue dogs are dumb enough to believe all the no-doubt spectacular promises of cushy jobs and etc. that have no doubt been made to them in exchange for walking the plank.
