A Call to Catholics [Excommunicate Kathleen Townsend Kennedy!]
Newsweek ^ | November 06th, 2009

A Call to Catholics Don't let abortion politics stand in the way of affordable coverage for all.

By Kathleen Kennedy Townsend | Newsweek Nov 6, 2009

Nearly 50 years ago, President Kennedy delivered his famous "Catholic" speech in which he stated, "Whatever issue may come before me as president—on birth control, divorce, censorship, gambling, or any other subject—I will make my decision in accordance with these views, in accordance with what my conscience tells me to be the national interest, and without regard to outside religious pressure or dictates. And no power or threat of punishment could cause me to decide otherwise."

These words still ring true today, and nowhere more so than in the current health-care debate. In recent months, much has been made over the question of the Roman Catholic faith, health care reform, and abortion.

The Roman Catholic Church and American Catholics have long believed that health care is a basic human right. The church has been a leader in the struggle to achieve quality, affordable coverage for all. They know that if the United States is ever going to climb out of its dismal standing as 30th in infant mortality in the world, women will need access to better prenatal care so that they can give birth to healthier babies.

Yet as lofty ideas turn into actual policy details, the perennial question of how to deal with the issues of women's health—specifically abortion and federal funding—has come up. In solving this issue, perhaps we should heed the words of my uncle: what is in the national interest?

In this instance, the national interest is to pass meaningful health-care reform and not litigate abortion in the process. Too much is at stake to let differences over abortion derail real health reform.

dear Church: when will you stop allowing yourself to be treated like a common whore by American politicians?

Signed, A concerned member.

What is more important, LIFE or your social justice issue du jour?

I don’t think the Kennedy’s, Pelosi’s and Gulliani’s think of health care for the “unborn child”

Okay, then we stick with the status quo, and taxpayer funded abortion is off the table.

There, that was easy, wasn't it.

Shut up, KKT, and go watch an abortion ultrasound tonight instead of a Broadway show.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church elaborates on this principle in theological, and almost poetic terms:
God has not willed to reserve to himself all exercise of power. He entrusts to every creature the functions it is capable of performing, according to the capacities of its own nature. This mode of governance ought to be followed in social life. The way God acts in governing the world, which bears witness to such great regard for human freedom, should inspire the wisdom of those who govern human communities.
Safe to say that Pelosi, Sebelius, et al haven't dusted off a Catechism since CCD.

We couldn't get rid of Ted. What makes you think we could dump her?

As a Catholic, all I can say is that it's all about the money. Makes it easier for me to contribute ZERO during the offertory.

The Roman Catholic Church and American Catholics...

So, according to Ms. Kennedy, these are mutually exclusive entities? What a revealing insight into the mentality she and others like her share. They do not even see themselves as Roman Catholics, but schismatic "American" Catholics. She may not have overtly intended that, but it reveals what she's thinking inside.

This statement is so mind-numbingly illogical, I don't know whether to bang my head against the wall or throw my monitor out the window.

We are a nation run by imbeciles who've lost all capacity for discursive reasoning.

KKT failed miserably when she ran for Gov of MD, only way we got a R, Bob Ehrlich as Gov.

Nobody liked her.

I knew her from the late 80s, she acted like a 14 YO.

He was made to pay with his life for that stand, by the very power he was talking about. This Kennedy had a Backbone.

I'm not the Vatican CPA. But do you really think the Kennedys get a free pass without paying? I grew up in Boston and saw the political machinery of the Church. Cardinal Cushing was a real piece of work. The most powerful man in Boston in the 1960s.

As my Mom, as devout a Catholic you would ever meet once said, "Never give to the second collection or the Cardinal's Stewardship Appeal. That's where the padding goes on."

I imagine sitting on her parish council did a lot to shape her opinions.

What I'm saying is that all organizations have some people who are treated differently because of their particular skills, talents, influence and yes, wealth. Our Church is no different.

I believe your church might have sinners who are treated special just like my church but to make such accusations you should provide some solid proof. Because she sat on some parish council isn’t enough.

If you want to blindly think that the Church is all flowers and sweetness, be my guest. Human faults are evident in every enterprise, including religion. Your rose colored glasses must be reassuring to you.

I'm a Catholic who realizes that the Church is not faultless and is only as strong as its weakest link. Doesn't mean that I' m wrong, nor does it make me a bad Catholic.

I never said you are a bad Catholic and I never said it was my church. I realize there are a lot of problems with it, including homosexuality, which, BTW is not just a Catholic thing. I just wanted to know how much the Catholic church was paid by the politicians for their annulment which was your claim.

Seriously, I'm collecting information. Thank you.
