Muslim Population in the Military Raises Difficult Issues

The deadly rampage at Fort Hood is forcing Pentagon officials to confront difficult questions about the military's growing Muslim population.
The military has worked hard to recruit more Muslims since the start of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the number of Muslim troops, while still small, has been increasing. There were 3,409 Muslims in the active-duty military as of April 2008, according to Pentagon statistics.
Military personnel don't have to disclose their religions, and many officials believe the actual number of Muslim soldiers may be at least 10,000 higher than the Pentagon statistics.
For instance, the military "Officer Record Brief" of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the suspect in the Fort Hood shootings, said he had "no religious preference" and didn't identify him as a Muslim.
Even now, Muslim soldiers remain fairly rare in some parts of the military. At West Point, Army officials said there were just 24 Muslim cadets out of a total student body of 4,400. The Muslim cadets worship in an interfaith center on the bucolic New York campus, but don't have a dedicated mosque.
The push to boost Muslim representation has proven to be a double-edged sword for the military, which desperately needs the Muslim soldiers for their language skills and cultural knowledge, but also worries that a small percentage of those soldiers might harbor extremist ideologies or choose to turn their guns on their fellow soldiers.
In one of the military's most notorious cases of fratricide since Vietnam, Army Sgt. Hasan Akbar, a convert to Islam, rolled a grenade into a tent filled with other soldiers in April 2003. The attack killed two officers and wounded 14 others.

Okay... for those of you who smoked pot and skipped history class: historically Muslims hate all infidels, and declared war on USA (the Great Satan) back in the sixties, and only the foolish disbelieved them. 9/11 was supposed to end that debate. Islam is the second largest world religion, growing fast because most Christians no longer breed at a “replacement rate”. Europe is already post-Christian.
Islam is the 600 lb gorilla in every room in every country. It is a violent, intolerant backward faith that justifies jihadist atrocity and treats women and gays like dogs. You can convert in but CANNOT convert out without being marked for death.
Islam had been trending MORE extreme for 40 years, not more moderate. There is NO moderate muslim movement with any clout, only media apologists for growing evil. Muslims use Western notions of tolerance and diversity against us, and Islam wants to eventually control the entire planet (world caliphate) under sharia. These are not debatable, Islam commands these things.
It is a religion with a built-in political component (no separation of church/state is allowed) and Islam is the social underclass cancer within all nations. Any decent amount of research will reveal these truths. Islam cannot be wished away or ignored and don’t attempt moral relativism, all other main religions feature tolerance instead of murderous intolerance.
Stop me if you know all this. Now, if the FBI is not bugging every mosque in America and if the brass is not discharging every muzzie soldier in our own military.. we have a death wish. Our nation may be suicidal... me, not so much.

1997. I was living in Ussurysk, Primorskiy Territory (Pacific Maritime Region), Russia. I visited Vladivostok one day when the USS Belleau Wood was anchored off shore, and U.S. Sailors were coming ashore by the hundreds for the day.
I carried a backpack full of Christian Gospel literature in English and in Russian, and I was offering it piece-by-piece to all on the streets, American sailors and Russian citizens.
I came to a corner where a considerable number of American sailors were gathered, and I will tell you that they were black, because they identified THEMSELVES as Black Muslims.
Because these sailors were in their whites, there was of course no way to identify them as to religious affiliation.
They may have taken me for a Russian. I don’t know. The Russians themselves can spot an American easily, but other visiting foreigners may not be able to distinguish.
The “Black Muslim” sailors came at me with a very threatening posture, used strings of foul language, and did indeed use words to threaten my safety. Their gestures and body language were designed to intimidate and perhaps even eggagerated because they did not know whether I understand their English. Of course, I understood every word.
I wrote a one page report of the incident and delivered it to the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok for review by our Military attache there.
I do not know whether my report was forwarded to the commander of the USS Belleau Wood, or if any action was taken. Nobody ever contacted me from the Consulate or the Navy with regard to my report.
Actually, at that moment, I was most grieved over the fact that these American sailors behaved this way in a foreign port, and there were dozens of Russians who witnessed it, whether they understood what was really happening or not. I felt embarrassment more than fear. I did not allow their intimidation to move me down the road, however.
I had decided to not speak any English to them and just allow them to wonder whther they had been understood.
I personally believe that men like this are dangerous to our national security and don’t belong in our Armed Forces.
As long as we have the Current Occupant in the White House there will never be the slightest intimation that disloyal muslims be separated from our military.

This is merely an example of poor writing - not necessarily of fuzzy thinking.
I'll give the author the benefit of the doubt and assume that he meant that Muslim recruits frequently possess language skills which can be valuable for military intelligence purposes (read: interrogating captured enemy combatants, etc.).
Of course, professing the Muslim faith does not, per se, give anyone any special qualifications.

Very good question . I wonder if it would have been possible to occur there . Are Pentagon staff subjected to more supervision and scrutiny that the murdering muslim cultist was at Ft Hood . Mistakes were made , warnings were not heeded and we do not have an overall coherent policy and practice to deal with these death cultists and protect American lives . Hypothetically if Obama could have prevented the killings only by some act that would take the lives of 100,000 muslims in Iran , we he have done so ? Would I ? I would light the entire country up right now and take my impeachment . I might only nuke qum and give people 72 hours to get 100 miles from of wherever Nutjob and the mullah music makers are , then a couple subs empty some tubes , and its Miller time .

That becomes a PC bonus in that the US can say, "Why, some of our troops are in fact Muslims". However the Muslims coming into hostile lands wearing US uniforms are probably viewed as traitors to the club by the locals, so the PC value is moot.
Seriously, if you task a devout Muslim with reading the al Qaeda bulletin boards and he sees a posting that describes an imminent attack with instructions to keep it quiet for Allah, this is a conflicted individual.
Well, Hasan couldn't speak Arabic, according to the owner of the convenience store he frequented. He was born and raised in Viginia, so he doesn't any foreign Muslim culture. And, according to some interviews of psychiatrists who worked with him at Walter Reed, he was lazy and didn't give a damn about his work.
But he was fanatical about Islam.
Why was he still in the military?
And if people like him -- one of the supposedly "small percentage" who harbor extremist ideologies and choose to turn their guns on their fellow soldiers -- can't be screened out, or are retained out of fear of discrimination lawsuits, then why take the risk at all?
I personally know Arabic speaking, Lebanese origin, American Christians, who are very familiar with the culture of the heathen muzzies.

Does anyone else worry about this influence at large in our medical system in the US and how do we go about finding those whose goal might be to harm us rather than to heal us? Why didn’t Hasan do this? We are told that he objected to going to Iraq or Afghanistan because of his faith..yet it sounds like he never filed any papers along these lines. This is key, because it pokes holes in the lame stream media attempts to paint him as some kind of victim. Hasan didn’t object because he wanted to do just what he eventually did...wage jihad on our soldiers.

All schools have been teaching moral relativism for decades now and “values” “multiculturalism” and “diversity” were the code words used to get their Marxist views and way of thinking into the minds of the masses.
