Obama's 'Lost And Dislocated' Jobs
Forbes ^ | 11/6/2009 | Newt Gingrich and Vince Haley

The bailout is hurting--not helping--employment.

The White House announced last week that the $787 billion stimulus package has "saved or created" more than 1 million jobs.

Yet on Friday we learned that unemployment increased to 10.2%, and the number of unemployed Americans rose by 558,000 in October. If you factor in workers who gave up looking or settled for a part-time job, the real unemployment rate--what's known as U6--is an astounding 17.5%.

Look out now for even more claims about "saved or created" jobs from the Obama administration.

As numerous economists have explained, there is no academic or empirical basis for the category of "jobs saved."

Veronique de Rugy of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University says, "no agency--not the Labor Department, not the Treasury, not the Bureau of Labor Statistics--actually calculates 'jobs saved.' "

Dr. Allan Meltzer of Carnegie Mellon University adds, "One can search economic textbooks forever without finding a concept called 'jobs saved.' It doesn't exist for good reason: How can anyone know that his or her job has been saved?"

The fact is, there is no guarantee that the government actually creates a job when it spends stimulus money. There is no way of knowing whether a worker or firm that is engaged in a stimulus-related activity would have been idle or engaged in some alternative activity. But we do know that as the recovery picks up, individuals engaged in government activity will be unavailable for more productive private activity.

That means that the recovery will have trouble truly lifting off if many of our workers have been committed to questionable make-work projects concocted by Speaker Pelosi and President Obama. A Keynesian might be happy to have government workers digging holes and filling them in, but workers occupied in that manner cannot, at the same

But enough of that, time for another puff piece about the Obamas having fun and partying down and Michelle’s arms and blah blah blah.

It’s the uncertainty about health care mandates and cap and tax mandates that will prevent businesses from moving forward with hiring.

Until they know what their costs will be there will be no expansion, NONE.

Menwhile, Obama gives lip service to the problems in the economy. He and the Dems in Congress are stuck on stupid (health care). The people don’t want any part of the health care bill (are you listening, Republicans?). Nada! Stop destroying private enterprise, all the while “creating” new government jobs.

How come the MSM does’nt show the homeless people?
The constant drum of misery was ever present during republican administrations.

Zer0 did manage to match Carter’s unemployment rate.

I believe the Obama/Democrat intent is to let unemployment rise to provide an excuse for more looting of the Treasury and more wealth redistribution in the form of another “Stimulus” package.

That is why he isn’t spending the current stimulus money very quickly and why the money isn’t being spent on real job creating projects so much as on leftist patronage and wealth redistribution.

He wants to break the economic and political power of the middle class, which is majority Republican, and reward his own supporters with the money he loots through his various socialist schemes.

The constant drum of misery was ever present during republican administrations.

A couple of years ago, I was listening to the noon news on NPR. The commentator droned, "The Dow today reached a new record - 15000 point, despite the struggling economy!". It infuriated me that libs liked living their good life but had to trash the economy at the same time. Well, today they know what a REAL bad economy looks like.

Maybe Obama could at least give a “shout out” to all the unemployed. That should feed their families for a while.

“I believe the Obama/Democrat intent is to let unemployment rise to provide an excuse for more looting of the Treasury and more wealth redistribution in the form of another “Stimulus” package.”

Bingo! They have another $2-$3 trillion stimulus package on top of the healthcare, climate bill, etc.

But, I think it is all about CORRUPTION rather than pure Marxism. To be sure, they will get support from the stupid for their “attempts” to save employment, but the real objective in wealth redistribution to their corrupt liberal friends and power shift to hateful minority and environmental groups.

The Berkeley hippies are in control are reveal themselves to be shameless criminals who have no idea what they are doing, only that they want to punish others.

When are the sheeple going to realize that creating a new government job does nothing to grow the economy?

Saw the cover of the latest (I think it’s called...)Essence magazine. The Obamas, including MO’s Mom, are on the cover. Looks like they’re standing on a balconey with wrought-iron railing...all of them smiling and waving out to the crowd (of course you don’t see any crowd...this could have just been a staged photo-op). But what struck me most about the picture is that it reminds me of pictures of England’s royals, standing on a balconey at Buckingham Palace—all waving to the crowd. To me, the intent is so obvious—to show the Obamas as American “royalty.”

". . . another puff piece about the Obamas having fun and partying down . . ."

Or as another famous monarch said when told about the common people's misery, "Let them eat cake."

In a People magazine mentality culture, these puff pieces are shiny little things to divert droolers' attention from the club that's coming down on their head.

This is all reminiscent of Clinton. When in trouble, he either would be predictably photo-opped coming out of a church with a Bible in hand, or would make some dramatic commander-in-chief decision to bomb something.

For -0-, he either gets the puff piece about some lightweight social irrelevance, or whines about his troubles being someone else's fault (such as the previous administration or some evil right-wing media).

Somewhere, -0- has gotten the idea that delaying a tough decision is insulation against being held accountable when things don't work out perfectly.

C'mon, -0-; there is no 'next job' to run for, and this is one you can't run from. Man up and do the job.

Give it one more year, and the next time you see a picture of a little man peeking out of the door in front of the president's desk, it won't be Kennedy's kid -- it'll be -0- looking out of his hiding place.

Whenever I hear him whining about Bush--from that tacky Inaugural speech on--I think of this old saying:

"You wanted it, you paid for it, it's yours."

Obama acts as if this job was foisted on him, instead of it being a prize he ran after to the exclusion of the job he'd been elected to perform.

He reminds me of that teenager's whine, "I didn't ask to be born!"
