House Speaker Nancy Pelosi all-but-predicted passage of a House health reform bill Saturday, following an emotional appeal from President Barack Obama to fellow Democrats, urging them to answer the call of history and vote yes.
Nows the time to finish the job, Obama said in the Rose Garden, following a 45-minute closed-door meeting with the House Democratic caucus on Capitol Hill.
I reminded them that opportunities like this come around maybe once in a generation, Obama said. This is their moment, this is our moment, to live up to the trust the American people have pledged in us.
Obama left the Hill without addressing reporters, but Pelosi took to the microphones after he left sounding confident of passage. "Today we will make not only history, but progress for America's working families," she said.
But she and her top lieutenants stopped short of saying they had the 218 votes needed for passage signaling a day of vote-wrangling and arm-twisting that could stretch into Saturday night.
The stakes for Obama are high with health care his signature legislative priority and twin majority in Congress. But Democrats appeared to remain shy of the votes needed, as some wavering Democrats were skittish of backing the $1.2 trillion measure after Tuesdays Democratic election washout and Fridays 10-percent-plus unemployment rate.

They’re destroying the RAT party, IMO. Who needs terrorist enemies when we have them in the US Congress?

Venezuela once had a proud history also.

Yeah - they’re doing something the British, the Nazis, the Chi-Coms, the Iranians and al Queda couldn’t - destroy the US!
That’s quite a history landmark.

She made history yesterday and today by not dismissing the house until the funerals for the slain at Ft Hood were over.
Pelosi is a vile B$tch for not dismissing the house after that terrible tragedy.

I find this disturbing. These catholic bishops have to realize that is a classic bait and switch once this goes into committee. They should have more sense than this.

If they pass this, we need to shut this country down. A national strike. I'm serious.
Civil disobedience at every possible level. Tie them up with their own red tape.
Do not buy American, except if the seller is conservative. Do not hire liberals. Fire them. Put 'em out on the street where stray dogs belong.
A scorched earth policy is called for. They will not listen to the vast majority of the people, and they should be severely punished for that. Not just at the voting booth. This goes beyond voting. Way beyond voting.
This cannot stand.

I just got an email for my democratic congressman “Chet Edwards” which says he will vote NO on this healthcare reform.
I have never seen his name on the list of possible dems that would vote no :)

She’s potentially making the same history as Edmund Ruffin did for the democrat party in 1861. Maybe she’ll do the same thing he did when the confederacy surrendered.
