Bloodless President Barack Obama makes Americans wistful for George W Bush
Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | November 7, 2009 | Toby Harnden

Barack Obama's reaction to bad news is to play it so cool that Americans yearn for a bit more drama - and some even for his predecessor, writes Toby Harnden in Washington.

During the election campaign, Barack Obama's cool detachment was a winning quality, the "No Drama Obama" a welcome contrast with the "Mr Angry" John McCain, never mind the hot-headed "I'm the decider" President George W Bush.

A year into his presidency, however, Mr Obama seems a curiously bloodless president. If he experiences passion, he seldom shows it. It is often anyone's guess as to whether an event or issue truly moves him.

He has spent more than two months considering a troop increase but do we know how he really feels about the Afghan war?

In a sign that the Obama honeymoon truly is over, I began to hear this week the first stirrings of a wistfulness about Mr Bush. "I never thought I'd hear myself say it," one Democrat told me. "But Obama makes you feel that at least with Bush you knew where he was on something."

When Mr Bush's Republicans were defeated in the 2006 mid-term elections, it was the President himself who stepped up and declared that his party had received "a thumpin'". The Democratic defeats on Tuesday were not on anything like the same scale but Mr Obama acted as if nothing at all had happened.

Mr Obama had campaigned for Jon Corzine, New Jersey's Democratic governor, five times, twice just last Sunday. But when Mr Corzine lost by four points in a state Mr Obama won by 15 last year - a 19-point swing to Republicans - White House aides just shrugged.

In Virginia, which Mr Obama won by six points last year, prompting Democrats to declare an historic political realignment in

More serious perhaps was Mr Obama's strange disconnectedness over the Fort Hood massacre of 13 soldiers by an Army major and devout Muslim who opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, had praised suicide bombing and shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he opened fire.

His reaction to the Ft. Hood massacre is not strange to those of us who loathe Obozo with good reason.

Nice to see a UK paper writing about it though.

And, ha ha ha that a Dem would be missing President Bush....

I told my lib relatives that very thing would happen.

I want to hear it from them though....

This guy is as cold and emotionless as a cyborg. In fact I think he is a cyborg. He’s an Obamaton from some other planet and he’s only masquerading as a human being.

Every announcement, speech, and press comment is delivered with the same flat, detached tone of voice with the same inflection at the end of each sentence for emphasis.

All of the guy’s blood was removed at some point and replaced with embalming fluid.

Well, I wouldn’t say that! More like wistful for Ronald Reagan, or so disappointed because Duncan L. Hunter is not in thr White House.

God defeated Allah at Fort Hood.He also did not let Hasan die to gain a seat next to his perverted god.

Political Correctness is used to keep America blind to what actually goes on inside a Mujihads heart mind. The left has worked so hard at making sure that America does not see its war against Terror as a religious war, when in fact the enemy sees it as EXACTLY that. A religious war.

This is , as Bush said, a war against evil. And evil came to Fort Hood in the form of a jihadi who was in fact possessed by Allah. For me this incident has shades of the movie “Exorcist.”

And Good has triumphed, even though so many innocents died.
This truth of which we speak needs to me shared with America as much as possible.America needs to know of the evil which it faces, at long last. No matter what the left want to make of it.

The religious practice of the Mujihad needs to be explained to every one. There is an inner prayer designed to connect one with the self righteous energy of Allah, who literally takes over the body and mind of the jihadine.Thats what happened here.A kind of Muslim spiritual possession.Hasan was not insane, or deranged. He was just fired up on his prayers and energized. He was executing a religious ritual which he believed would open the gates of heaven for him.

The MSM will not properly inform the public about this religious practise of jihadism. It would no longer be a war on terror,The terrorists could no longer be redefined as “criminals” by Obama , who should be Mirandized with the benefits of due process that Bush had made sure to remove, as deserved.

It's not a question of drama. Rather a question of humanity. It would be nice to believe that these creatures who now run our lives were not the cruel horrors they self evidently are.
I can see the President, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid visiting a camp in winter, all bundled in the heavy fur collared military issued coats, Presidential Seals bright.
Looking out over fields of reactionary citizens dying of exposure. These things have to be done in the name of Hope and Change.

Obama is still learning how to properly salute, he has that pesky problem with the middle finger, you know. I am sure he is just judiciously weighing the situation in order not to jump to any hasty conclusions. Getting out on the links can make the mind so much clearer on the important issues so I expect that he will be there for the dead and wounded just after he makes his decision on Afghanistan, within mere weeks according to Axelrod. Papa Oscar Sierra.

He and Laura quietly visited the wounded at Ft. Hood last night.

When I read that, my jaw hit the desk! How can this be? How have we ended up with this man as our CiC?

I fear the reaction to O might be something like a Constitional amendment saying a person has to have served in the military to even run for President. That wouldn't be a good thing, but it takes someone like the One, who is obviously wholly incapable of even comprehending what it means to be CiC, to push the nation to such an extreme reaction.

I really believe when history is written regarding GWB’s Presidency, we will see how the WOT forced him into compromising a lot of his original agenda. It would not surprise me in the least that the Dems held it over his head to get their way on many things.

there isn't enough collective intelligence in modern america to understand George W. Bush's presidency. It will take generations to sort it out, if ever, and, if ever, he will be seen to be one of the top 5 presidents.

I don't have a problem with that. In fact, I kinda lean towards a Heinlein approach, a la Starship Troopers, of making military service a citizenship requirement.

I have a picture of W along with a nice letter from him framed in my foyer. I've had it there since April 2001 and I fully intend that it will remain there. When Zero seized the Presidency my mother in law asked me when I was gonna take it down now that we had a new Prez. I calmly informed her that her picture would be removed before W's would. I don't think she liked that very much.

Can I just remind you of two things I believe happened before the 9/11 attacks with Bush?

1.He hooked up with Kennedy inviting him over to the white house to see a movie and talked about and did expand the education budget like never before.

2.He signed the McCain/Feingold anti free speech law knowing and saying it was against the 1st amendment.

He started compromising right from the start, just so we could all get along. He tried to make peace with the ones accusing him of stealing the presidency and what did he get in exchange by talking peace with the dems? The worst treatment and demonizing by the dems and the press I have ever seen a potus get. For 8 long years without ceasing!!!!
