The American Society of Medical Doctors (ASMD) today released a nationwide, nonpartisan poll* of physicians showing that:
70 percent of specialty doctors oppose current Congressional and White House proposals for health-care reform;
66 percent believe that a government-run health insurance plan would restrict doctors' ability to give the best advice and offer the best care possible to their patients; and
More than 60 percent would not accept new patients with government insurance (including 27% who would not accept any patients on the new government plan).
Chairman of the ASMD, Alfred O. Bonati, M.D., said that, "As a physician, the results of this poll are not surprising to me. Any doctor who has ever dealt with Medicare knows that government coverage severely limits our abilities to deliver care that best fits the needs of the patient and the patient's family. We know that government coverage does not allow for flexibility, creativity, or, sometimes, even compassion."
"I hope this research will serve as a wake-up call to policy makers," Bonati said. "Doctors are against the creation of government-run health insurance and many of us will not accept new patients with that type of coverage."
ASMD spokeswoman, Holly Pitt Young, noted that, "When it comes to our health, we listen to our doctors. Now it's time for Congress to do the same."
Pitt Young also highlighted the political orientation of the poll's participants. "More than 60 percent of the doctors in this poll described themselves as moderate, somewhat liberal or very liberal. When a group like that agrees with conservatives, it seems that something awfully important is being said."
*The poll was conducted on August 7th, 2009, by WRS Opinion Research on behalf of the ASMD. Detailed results can be found at www.theasmd.org.

The next Town Hall meeting will be interesting, when is the next recess? Thanksgiving? Welcome home Congress!
My doctor told me that she plans on treating people the same as always, whether or not the feds win this so-called reform. And I promised her that I would definitely take care of her house and bring her food when she is in jail.
Did anyone else notice that Rep. Payne (D) New Jersey, said that he supports HC reform because he wants insurance to cover “Mammy-O-Grams?”
No kidding. You can’t make up this stuff.
This genius is deciding how the rest of must live our lives.
BFL
Too late, we are screwed...for now.
I say this as my stomach churns.
Payne along with the rest of the NJ D’s are total idiots. I have resigned myself to the fact that this will pass. I am also looking forward to supporting their challengers in the 2010 elections.
Start saving now folks! We have a lot of challengers to donate to!
Mammy-O-Grams?
^
That’s how my dad says that too
I have been emailing all afternoon. All emails have been returned. I think they have blocked all incoming mail.
If that’s what’s happening it’s pure arrogance!
Well may be they’ll surprise us by sobering up and voting Pelosi out as Speaker. I don’t know how anyone could think this lady has a good grasp on reality from the news clips I’ve seen of her
I emailed this list twice earlier today...all but 4 or 5 went through.
I also faxed quite a few. Unfortunately I think they don’t care what we think.
I know, she looks like she has gone off the deep end. Her eyes look weird, as if she highly medicated.
You vill obey!
I was talking with my allergist (M.D.) who said if this passes, in 5 years you will see an exodus from the profession you will not believe. Doctors do not want to slave through 8 years of school (and some take 9 and even 10 years) to be a public servant.
Granted, he said there are some quack M.Ds out there, but don’t punish the competent majority because of a few muffinheads who don’t practice good medicine. Talk about curing the disease by killing the patient..
I would not want to be in law enforcement if this thing passes. Imagine being a U.S. Marshal, State Trooper or FBI agent having to arrest not only neighbors for not buying into this tax travesty, but relatives and friends. I hope many have the stones to turn in their badges before following such orders.
And imagine that..the treasonous calling the patriots treasonous.
Once specialists find out that they will have to get a referral from a “medical home” doctor or even nurse practitioner, it might go to 90%. Right now, most specialists work in small groups ranging from 2-25 same or related specialty groups. Fewer work for hospitals or large corporations. Specialists are the quintessential small businessmen. This will force specialists to dissolve their groups and join large hospital corporations for salaried positions. Productivity will plummet and the statists will rejoice.

Okay everyone sing along to the new government hit tune:
Mmm mmm mmm the doctors won’t accept new patients, the doctors won’t do as their told. mmm mmm mmm So the all mighty, powerful government will have to punish the doctors and put in jail. mmm mmm mmm After all the doctors are just slaves of the government and should take care of the government’s other serfs free of charge. mmm mmm mmm Obama says mmm mmm mmm.
My doctor is a surgeon. I see him as my regular MD. because he is good and a friend. He said if it passes, he is out of here and moving to his vacation home outside of the US. We have a home there too and will probably do the same. At least I will have good health care and the same doctor and live in a country that is much like the US used to be. I will not comply with this government run health care under any circumstances. I will not pay a dime, no taxes, no fees, nothing. The line in the sand has been drawn. This is the point where I just say “NO”!
Too bad, slaves.
You were quiet when the shackles were put on.

Whose right is health care? Do you think it's yours?
Congressman Anthony Weiner has said that health care is not a commodity. If it isn't a commodity then do doctors and nurses have rights? Assigning health care the status of a right makes health care workers slaves to that right who must serve it. On what ground could a health care worker refuse to provide their products and services since that would violate the patient's "basic human right to health care."
That is a direct loss of individual rights for health care providers. The collective right of the people to receive health care would supersede the provider's individual right to set fees and hours or to change their occupational status or even decide how to apply their skills and knowledge if taken to its logical extreme. A collective right, by practical definition, is a state right because it is a right that is created and given by the government to those it chooses to give it to. It is not a natural right possessed by each person protected by the Constitution from the government. It is also a collective/state right by virtue of the fact that it would supersede individual rights when the two come into conflict. How else would the government view a right that it created and administers vs. one it has no control over?
Of course it isn't stated in any bill that a patient's right to care supersedes a provider's right to set fees and hours etc, but it doesn't need to. Rights, as always, are adjudicated in the courts. The Health Care Reform bills simply establish the foundation for the courts to rule in favor of the collective right.
Weiners view is collectivist, fascist and totalitarian. Collectivist because it has to be described as being a right of the many instead of the one and superior due to that fact. Fascist because ultimately the sole authority for its creation and oversight is from one entity the Federal government. Totalitarian because the Federal government is the enforcer of this collective right as well. State and local jurisdictions will have little say about it.
Congressman Weiner's view is the underlying philosophy of all of the Health Care Reform legislation in the House and Senate. Consider this section in the Senate version of the bill; the setting up of community watch dogs that will monitor citizens for various health parameters. Read pages 382 - 393.
TITLE IQUALITY, AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE FOR ALL AMERICANS pps 382 - 393
So, even citizens themselves will be subject to Federal regulations on their behavior in order to fulfill the "human right" of universal health care. It isn't the individual's liberty that is being protected by that it is the government's control over its own health care system that is being guarded. How much clearer can it be that these bills abrogate the concept of individual rights? Someone will be checking your lifestyle, according to gov regulations, to be certain you serve the best interests of the "basic human right to health care" ie. "the Public Option."
HCR is not just about rationing care and wealth redistribution. It's about the end of individual rights as the corrosive effects of the new collectivist "basic human right to health care" spreads throughout the legal and political systems like a virus.
I think that the main purpose of Health Care Reform (HCR) is as a direct assault on individual liberties.
