House Narrowly Passes Historic Health Care Bill
Politics Daily ^ | 7/11/09 | Patricia Murphy

Posted on 11/07/2009 11:43:16 PM PST by Eleutheria5

The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed a massive overhaul of the American health care system Saturday night by a vote of 220 to 215. One Republican, Rep. Joseph Cao of Louisiana, crossed the aisle, while 39 Democrats joined the Republicans in opposing the measure.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called passage of the bill "an historic moment for our nation and for America's families," while Republicans warned that the bill will raise taxes, increase insurance premiums and make cuts to Medicare. An enormous round of applause broke out throughout the House chamber when the crucial 218th vote was cast to ensure the bill's passage.

"Historic moments" can be a bad thing, too. This is true irony.

Call it narrow, but Pelosi had 39 Democrats in reserve.

Here is what’s really hilarious. Many don’t have insurance because they would rather spend their money on new cars, vacations, partying, whatever. The DUmmies, HUFFhos, Koscrapheads are going to go ballistic when they see they have to begin paying in Jan. 2010 when they don’t get anything to show for it for years later.
That hasn’t sunk in yet, just wait. I have insurance, I pay for it, I don’t need or want their crappy handouts. If they screw with my private health care, my doctor is moving to the same place I will move. I win, they lose. I’ve wanted to spend a year or two at our vacation home anyway. So I take my money and spend it there instead of here. I win, they lose. My doctor wins, they lose.

On the other hand, only one RINO crossed the aisle, but 39 Dems defected despite the threats and the intimidation. This will count for something in the foreseeable future.

Depends on why he crossed over. It is common on tightly contested votes for one member of the losing side to cross over at the last minute to preserve the option of offering a motion to reconsider. (A motion to reconsider can only be offered by someone who voted with the majority the first time.) Very often it is a member of the leadership who does this. It's a tactical vote. I don't know if that's the reason in this case, but it could be.

Not even pretending to be anything but Democrat Party propagandists anymore. Just could not wait to work the Democrats slogan into their "news" story.

The Dred Scott decision, Pearl Harbor and 09-11 were "historic" moments too.

Yes, anything done by one legislature can be undone by another.

But this is only the 1st touch down in a LOOOOnnng came.

It still has to pass the Senate, then the two bills have to be reconciled then pass both Houses again then pass the Courts.

This is a long way from done.

I cant believe how naive people are to think that Pelosi didnt strategically pick who were allowed to vote against it. All the votes will come down to 1 or 2 because the want to preserve there majorities in the house and senate.

I have been thinking about what the Democrats did tonight. I have never been so mad in all my life for them passing this but I am actually glad they did pass this HC legislation. Let me explain. The American electorate has been in a drunken stupor for so long. We have what we have in office because nobody is feeling any discomfort.

After the American people see what was passed and what it will do for their quality of life, it will finally get people to act because they will see their quality of life plummet. The Democrats have no idea what hit them last Tuesday and they will have no idea what will hit them in November of 2010. This is their attack on Pearl Harbor and you know what happened to Japan after this act.

They are so arrogant and blind that they think this is a victory for the left and their power. This vote was the beginning of the end for the left and the Democrats. We need to continue to pray, fight and act. We will prevail. We will takeover again this gov’t “for and by the people.”

"Historic"

Uh only if they mean, 'UNCONSTITUTIONAL'.

US Constitution - Article 1, Section 9
"No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed."

Bill Of Attainder: an act of legislature finding a person guilty of treason or felony without trial.

And since this Bill automatically finds anyone guilty of a felony (10 years in prison and $250,000 fine) who doesn't buy insurance - even for a newborn baby - that Nancy dear, is a Bill of Attainder and therefore, you can't do it.

It also violates due process and about Six Amendments but that's another matter for SCOTUS to sort out, you fascist pig.

I'm referring to Nazi Pelosi above.

*** The only solution is in the ballot box...vote the bastards out. ***

That's not the only solution, though voting them out is a good start.

The moment Barry puts his scrawl on any form of this *thing* to become law, the lawsuits in Federal Court can start flying. And then all 'we' need to stop it in its tracks is ONE Federal Judge, in ONE District, to put an injunction on it while it winds it way up through the courts. (like the left did with the Partial Birth Abortion Bill)

So in that respect I hope it happens soon while Justice Kennedy is still there for that all so important 5th 'swing' vote.

You realize, the eyes are exactly the same as Pelosi’s! Amazing.

I remember the Monty Python skit with people screaming all around:

“She’s a witch!!!”
“Burn Her”
If she weighs the same as a duck, and ducks float, so does wood, and wood burns, so to see if she is really a witch, if she burns, she’s a witch.”

That’s about the same logic these dummycrats use with their passing of this Hysteric Health Care Reform Bill.

We need a Kill Bill Part III movie plot.... ;)

Those of you thinking this will be repealed when we kick the Dems out of office in 2010, should reconsider your options.

We still have Social Security, because once people start paying into such a system, they have invested their own money into it, and will do just about anything to protect their investment, as history shows.

If you plan to stop socialized medicine, if you have any objections to paying for Cynthia McKinney’s abortion or paying for Nancy Pelosi’s botox injections, you need to act decisively BEFORE the first nickle is paid into this travesty of the US Constitution.

Once the people begin paying into socialized medicine, it will be come an irreversible system, just like Social Security is now.

I was thinking about this last night before the votes. I also think that by passing this bill, they have really doomed themselves. This will hit home to every idiot voter that put these scumbags in office.

Just as the man-child and the MSM are trying to sugar coat the unemployment numbers, to someone out of work, the unemployment rate is 100%.

2010 and 2012 will be a bloodbath for the RATS and this vote has assured us of that.
