FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A key U.S. senator called Sunday for an investigation into whether the Army missed signs that the man accused of opening fire at Fort Hood had embraced an increasingly extremist view of Islamic ideology.
Sen. Joe Lieberman's call came as word surfaced that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan apparently attended the same Virginia mosque as two Sept. 11 hijackers in 2001, at a time when a radical imam preached there.
Whether Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, associated with the hijackers is something the FBI will probably look into, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

Heck, the detour they set-up took them off the cliff.
Arm the Army.
Right to carry on base, means its like a Police station....Everyone is carrying.
Any chickens...t Jihadist attacking a Police station ? I thought not.
An Army base in America should be armed to the teeth....etc.....
This is the first intelligent response (heard from the feds so far).
It’s beginning to look more and more like we will have to depend on Mr. Liberman to get anything done — he at least tackles the hard stuff, I’ve noticed.
well I am hoping they take this more seriously than the president.
It is clear to everyone surely by now that obama does not understand the threats to this country or he does not care.
Now I find it hard that he does not understand and can only think he has little thought for the threats posed to this great country.
Either way the media are supposed to question him , get answers and report the truth but sadly instead they would rather be getting an invite to the white house dinners.
Even the most ardent left wing journo has to see that he is not taking the threats seriously, his shout outs,. his waiting to talk nearly 3 mins about the shooting, his lack of leadership in terrorism is evident for all to see he cares little about it.
Uh, Excuse me...and why aren’t the Republicans with Lieberman on this?
Looks like conservatives will have to rely on Indpendents.
Yeesh!
Go Joe!!!
This is the last thing we need. With the ‘Rats in control, they’ll conclude that it was the guns’ fault, not the poor, mistreated Muslim terrorist. Then they’ll pass legislation that wipes the 2nd Amendment off the Constitution.
Joe, you should be ashamed. Your politics are so obvious, they are beyond laughable. We know the Congress will work hard to somehow show that the rights of this MUSLIM were violated.....
I don't give a shit if it IS a 'religion' (which it isn't), make every mosque off limits at the risk of an article 15 (at least).
Both locations ... whore house and mosque .. are a health hazard that has the potential of bringing death.

Susan Collins is the ranking committee member on Homeland Security that Lieberman chairs.
Lieberman was asked by Chris Wallace on FNS if he would launch an investigation into this.
His answer was that he will do so, “in concert with the ranking member”.
I don’t know why you think Republicans aren’t in favor of this. There is no doubt they will be in favor.
Please don’t assume that Lieberman was calling a press conference or issuing a press release on his own. He was asked a question by a journalist and he answered it.
That’s why he said it today and it got in the news.

..Joe Lieberman has a similar view of these things to the Israelis, who do not take time to understand their attackers, they just do whatever is necessary to defeat them—the present military and civilian leadership should take note...
And watch I will - even if a tad bit cynically.
This is a cover up, they do not want us to know the truth.
I dunno. A report that I read earlier, which quoted Lieberman, had him basically apologizing for the killer and blaming unspecified “tensions” that had “radicalized” Hasan and turned him into a “home-grown terrorist.” Bizarre.
I think any kind of congressional investigation is going to turn into a whitewashing operation. Before it’s over they’ll have the cop who shot Hasan in the dock for hate crimes.
God bless ya Joe.
I was afraid Glenn Beck was the only one who would even question this.
Hyperbole I'm sure, but justified. US media outlets are already setting the stage for Hasan to be a 'victim' of non-muslim's (valid, imo) perceptions of muslims as untrustworthy.
Speaking of untrustworthy, I hold 0 to be the most untrustworthy president this nation has ever had - and after Clinton, that's saying a lot!
If only we could have a 'vote of no-confidence' on 0's leadership the way they did in Star Wars' first installment.
Perhaps a prominent conservative like Palin or Hoffman could hold a vote - the way they liked to do in Berkely during Bush's term in office - as a public referendum on 0's performance to date. Though it may not have any legal repercussions, it could become a form of political pressure on 0, democrats, RINOs, and etc., leading into election 2012.
Dems are committee chairmen. Republicans can’t investigate anything.
I was stunned when I heard that military are not armed! I felt the same way I felt on 9/11 when I found out that cockpit doors were not locked. People had been hijacking planes for over thirty years.
I saw him on Fox News Sunday and I didn’t get that impression (that you drew from another report).
Time will tell.
I don’t fear an investigation under Lieberman. I think it would go well enough that it would expose the facts that we already have about the killer.
Spin becomes impossible when the facts are presented and they are so powerful and clear, they speak for themselves.
His own words...
His own actions...
The Army will come out looking terrible for having let this enemy work among them, so open was he...
This is a cover up, they do not want us to know the truth.

Shhhh!

THANKS..I guess i meant the conservatives should be yipping more about “We need an investigation!”
I know...
Republicans ALONE can’t investigate anything. Lieberman said he will investigate in concert “with the ranking member”, which means Repubs to some extent would be in the loop.
Too bad the ranking member is Susan Collins, but I think she will differ little from whatever approach Lieberman takes.
(She gets pretty silly in her effusive praise of Joe, but at least we can be glad he is probably trustworthy on this and she will follow suite...)
"Either you are with us or you are for the terrorists."
~~George W. Bush
Exactly!
The Republicans are basically irrelevant. They can’t hold hearings unless the Democrat Chairman agrees to it.
“This is a cover up, they do not want us to know the truth.”
Too late, we already do...
A senate investigation? I’m sure they’ll find some moslems to be on the committee.
GMTA, do I know you? -g-
Wow, there’s still 1 American in the Senate!
I hope so. I only saw excerpts (in an article) from something Lieberman had said yesterday, so possibly they cherry-picked it to get something that made him sound more sympathetic to the shooter. Or possibly he just has to be careful about his public statements - the old “Islam is a religion of peace” routine.
Still, I’m way less optimistic of anything good coming out of this investigation. It will end up with, if anything, recommendations for more Muslims in the military, accelerated promotion of Muslims, adaptation to their demands (to avoid female military members, for example), etc.
