EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. Three women were shot to death at an East St. Louis gas station as they sat in a car with two children, police said.
Neither of the children, ages 1 and 8, were injured in the shooting Saturday evening, said East St. Louis Police detective Ken Berry. One suspect was in custody but had not yet been charged Sunday, and the shooter was still at large.
The women were sitting in a car at Crown Food Market about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when a shooter approached and opened fire, police said. He then fled.
The victims have been identified as Canikia Harvey, 26, Raykel Gathing, 26, Jaimaca McDaniel, 24, all of East St. Louis, according to St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone.
An employee who answered the phone at the gas station Sunday said the three women were regulars and never seemed to be involved in any trouble.

Oh geez, this is horrible.
Prayers for the kids.
This happened in Obama’s IL. If he has his way, he is going to bring these anti-2A laws to the rest of the nation.
That's a bastion of extremist, anti-choice, Vast Right Wing Conspirators, isn't it?
Isn't it?
I’ve heard some terrible stories about East St. Louis...
*clears throat* In order for a law to have meaning, one must be both willing to follow it and afraid of the consequences.
wasn’t ESL where “Escape from New York” was filmed?
“wasnt ESL where Escape from New York was filmed?”
Yes, and they didn’t even have to destroy the place to make it look war torn. Of course, it was in a neighborhood that had just been destroyed by a large fire...
Much of “random violence” and “caught in the crossfire” shootings is simply terroristic acts performed by gangs to keep up fear of them.
The MSM pretends to ignore this as a factor, since it helps feed their own agenda of civil disarmament.
When you hear of a 6 year old girl “tragically shot by mistake”, forget that. Someone drew a bead on her.
If I set up six bowling pins seven yards away, my chances of hitting one randomly is very small. Anyone who shoots pins will tell you that it’s not that easy to hit one deliberately.
This is terrorism, domestic terrorism.
People need to wake up! The 2A was put in place PRECISELY for places like this!
Thomas Jefferson: “The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.”
James Madison: “Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the people of other countries, whose leaders are afraid to trust them with arms.” (Federalist Paper #46)
Samual Adams: “The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.” (Convention of the Commonwealth of Mass., 86-87, date still being sought)
Dreadful. RIP.
Are you serious?
Years ago I attended a sales meeting in St.Louis, the only thing I can recall is being told not to go anywhere near east St. Louis. Sounds like the old Chicago Cabrini Green.
Prayers for the lost and their family’s.
Do any HUMANS live in East St. Louis?
a friend tells me East St. Louis is a predominantly black city, where one of the biggest businesses is strip clubs and prostitution.
but let’s not draw conclusions.
‘The killings bring the number of homicides in East St. Louis this year to 27. There were 19 in 2008.’
Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Eric Holder, Olbermann, and Matthews gizzin things up, come to mind..
that has to be false....the black community has conservative family values.....at least I’ve been told that...
I travelled the world, but East St. Louis was the closest thing I ever saw to Hell on Earth, and that was 30-years ago. Just look at all the vacant lots that can be seen today on Google Maps!
Didn’t anyone see “National Lampoon’s Vacation”/
“Kids you noticing all this plight.”
*gunshot* *scream*
“Roll ‘em up!”
Full of Swedes, plaid pants Republican golfers.
“Do any HUMANS live in East St. Louis?”
No..
I knew it. Bunch of Tea-Party going, Sarah Palin adoring, Glenn Beck watching, Rush Limbaugh listening Dittoheads.
People that eat white bread and mayo sandwiches. The worst sorts.
Yeah, I bought a used VHS tape of the movie and it had a director’s commentary, or making of the film bunch of yak. I fix motorcycles and winters are spent in my living room mostly, looking at the snow and reading and watching movies. Helps me become an expert on things I never wanted to know!
I have seen ESL on “The First 48 Hours”. A cable real show of real homicide detectives in Detroit, Miami, St. Louis and I think Dallas. Very good, hard working cops working on cases of this type all the time. Very sad to see their victims, and sad to see the perps on the paths they have chosen. Extremely high crime rate there.
Population 32,000. Murders this year, 27. I don’t think my town and the next town have had any murders in more than ten years, maybe 20, and our population isn’t so far off from that.
In 1960, ESL was a winner of Look magazine’s All American Cities award. But after many years of community organizers’ running the show, it isn’t even safe enough for the mob. Obama’s vision of America happened there within one generation. God help us all.
LOL
Go the same briefing at Scott AFB, not the far from ESL. And this was in the late 70s - a pit even then.
East St Louis: Population 32,000. Murders this year, 27.
Kennesaw, GA: Census estimates (2007) indicate a population of 31613. Murders since 1983?
One.
Gee.... What could be the difference? (Robt is puzzled.)
East St Louis makes Detroit look nice.
St Louis however is a nice city.
E St Louis, Detroit, New Orleans, Anacostia, Watts, Memphis, Harlem and many others
Hmm. What do they all have in common?
Forgot to add.....our tax dollars paid for that.
And they still complain that they are the victims of White, Rich America and demand that the wealth be confiscated and given to them.
THIS IS AND WILL BE THE RESULT! That fact will never change for those who believe that it is someone else’s responsibility to provide them with a living. food and shelter.
