Barack Obama 'insensitive' over his handling of Fort Hood shooting
Times Online (U.K.) ^ | November 9, 2009 | Chris Ayres

President Obama came in for growing criticism over the weekend for his “insensitive” handling of the bloody shoot-out in Fort Hood, Texas, where 13 people were killed by a Muslim officer in the US Army.

Mr Obama is not scheduled to arrive at America’s largest military base until tomorrow to attend a memorial service for victims of Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist who opened fire on a group of unarmed soldiers.

The President’s jarring absence from Fort Hood — in contrast to a low-key visit by the former president George Bush on Friday — is not the only element of his response to the tragedy that is bothering his critics, Democrats and Republicans alike.

In particular, much has been made of a transcript of the press conference where Mr Obama first gave his official response to the mass shooting. The President opened his remarks — he was attending a Tribal Nations Conference for America’s 564 federally recognised Native American tribes — with jocular “shout-outs” to various people in the audience. Only later did he turn his attention to the attack, saying: “I planned to make some broader remarks. But as some of you have heard, there has been a tragic shooting.”

“(Obama) did not appreciate the gravity of what he represents,” Brad Blakeman, a former deputy assistant to George Bush, told Fox News. “He should have begun his official remarks with the tragedy. The fact that he used colloquialisms like ‘shout out’ — and was so cavalier at the beginning — was a reflection of his inability to be presidential. He’s not comfortable enough in his role yet.”

Unusually, the liberal Boston Globe agreed. In an editorial at the weekend the newspaper said: “It takes more than scripted eloquence for Presidents to connect

A president is also the Commander-in-Chief and for the CIC to act as Obama did is more than insensitive. The only reason he will be going to Fort Hood is the face time he will have on national TV. With Obama it is all about mirrors without he could not admire himself.

“He’s not comfortable enough in his role yet.”

Perhaps because the poser should never have been in that role to begin with. It IS his intention to make a mockery of the office of President of the United States and of this country. Ten months is more than enough time to be able to play the part without the teleprompter.

Obama read what he was told to read from the teleprompter, as he’s always done, as he always will do. It’s his job, and he puts a lot of effort into presenting the proper emotion for the subject matter.

Shout out - casual happy hip and easy. Muslim slaughter of Americans - cautious concern about bigotry. So what’s the problem? Give the guy a break already.

I wish people would stop attributing self-motivated behaviors to him - it’s incredibly annoying.

Obama is clueless so thinking he could be sensitive when required ain’t gonna happen.

Giving the “shout out” was bad enough but then giving a shout out to a guy as a Medal of Honor “winner” was even more pathetic. The fact that the guy was a Medal of Freedom recipient not Medal of Honor was just another error from this POS.

Medal of Honor “winner”.... How many people go to war hoping to “win” one of these?

Makes you wonder just what is going through this guys head.

Obama probably was thinking, “So? What’s one more shooting in the ‘Hood?”

From Chicago to Afghanistan to the Mexican border to Fort Hood, obviously nothing as long as it isn't his head. (I don't miss a pun.)

Hussein is Clinton redux without Clinton’s connection to the real world. A narcissist withour sexual preoccupations is more dangerous.

In my view there is no “role” to play. As an american I was instantly pissed off by this attack on my countrymen.

As usual, he schedules himself to make announcements during the hour of Glenn Beck’s show, 5 p.m. (I know he was out due to appendicitis, but it was still during his show.)

obama started off making it clear where he was and what he was promising to Native Americans.

Glenn Beck exposing Van Jones showed videos of him shouting about returning the wealth to the Native Americans.

This was just another childish stunt on obama’s part. He was totally inappropriate. He is inept and unfit to be president.

“He’s not comfortable enough in his role yet.”

In fact, he IS comfortable with his role.

His role, however, is this.

Remember when the MSM destroyed Dan Quayle for reading a 3"x5" card in a spelling bee that had "potatoe" printed on it? He simply read what was on the card.

Where is the MSM for Obama's gaffe not knowing the difference between the Medal of Honor and the MOF? Oh, and by the way, guess who gave that guy the MOF? Well, well......it was Barack Hussein Obama! What Barack Hussein was really doing was patting himself on the back with his "shout out!"

Just a little OT, but I happened to see the NFL pre-game show yesterday that was broadcast from Afghanistan. THe usual sportscasters were there and they were doing their show from a base in Afghanistan before a large assemblage of soldiers and marines.

Despite lots of jokes and attempts to draw the soldiers into the show, I thought that many in the audience looked awfuly sober and grim — unlike the films when Bush visited the base when he was CIC, or when Bob Hope and the USO visited bases from Korea to Kuwait. There were not a lot of happy campers yesterday.

Yes, they would laugh at the jokes aimed specificallly for them, or for the NFL broadcasters, but the smiles would immediately disappear afterward. Some of the guys couldn’t seem to produce a smile at all. It made me very sad.

I could not disagree more with this.
The President should stay away from FT Hood until the ceremony. His (a Presidents) presence makes it about him and not about the men and women of the military. A President can not sneeze today withut it becoming the main item of any news story. The President should make annoucement and comments surely, but not be at the scene prior to the ceremonies. There is nothing he can do that is not being done by the right people.

I did not praise his presence. I surmised that his sole motive for going to Fort Hood was the face time he would get from the media. Media hogs, like Obama, are my top pet peeve.

Tuesday is the first opening on his Golf Dance Card, following a "Peaceful Weekend" at Camp David with the squeeze, kids, grandma and the pissie dog!

Sorry Fort Hood, you'll just have to wait your turn!

Forgot to add, there is time needed to tank up AF1, AF2 and the C-5a Galaxy to haul the POTUS "Bullet Proof" limo and all the big black SUVs with their "baby carbon foot prints". Hopefully, "Lady Grace" will fly with Zer0 to avoid having two more aircraft taking all her staff and pals.

Let's hope he has a more meaningful visit than the one to Copenhagen for his "fifteen minutes" of pushing for the Chicago land development for his old cronies with the Olympic Village in the mess he calls home.

Just to help, here's a "preamble" to all the bull crap about this not being a religious experience:

Easy enough for him to say but what about the linked interview about the Islamic visitor to the shooter's digs?

Only found on one posting but linked here.

Thing is he was not a CMH receipient.

He was awarded the Metal of Freedom, by the way Obama is the one who gave it to him
