Obama has lost sight of the centre
Financial Times (U.K.) ^ | November 9, 2009 | Clive Crook

Barack Obama and the Democrats want you to know they had a good week. Last Tuesday Republicans threw away a New York congressional seat they had held for a century, preferring to fight each other than win an easy contest. Excellent, say Democrats. Civil war in the Republican party augurs well for next year’s mid-term elections.

What’s that, you say? Oh, yes, Democrats did lose the governorships of New Jersey and Virginia, with huge swings to the other side, but this was to be expected with the economy in such bad shape. Read nothing into that, say Democratic strategists.

Still joyous over this electoral affirmation, Democrats in the House of Representatives then made history over the weekend, with passage of their health-reform bill. The margin was narrow, admittedly, in a chamber they dominate. So what? A win is a win (except in New Jersey or Virginia). Everything is going to plan.

Here is the disturbing part: watching administration officials shovel this nonsense, one begins to wonder if they believe it. If they do, and keep it up, they are asking for a drubbing in 2010 that will do for Mr Obama’s agenda what the wipe-out of 1994 did for Bill Clinton’s.

Last week’s elections went badly for the Democrats. New York was the outlier – unless Democrats expect their opponents to field two warring candidates in every seat. The Republican party is leaderless and incompetent, but not insane – and not, by the way, as divided as the Democrats. For the Republicans the New York loss was salutary, and the lesson inescapable: unite or lose.

The lesson for the Democrats was almost as clear, but their learning disability is more severe. The centre of the US electorate – loosely attached Democratic voters, self-declared independents and loosely attached Republican voters –

The British press is too kind and needs to state the obvious. Obama has antipathy towards those ‘different’ from himself. He is ignoring the obvious since he is a tourist and is just passing by on his way to greater things..

Liberals unlike Republicans fight for the long term. Liberals know what the history is. And they know human nature and Republicans can be foleyized out of office while Liberals hold what they have gained every few election cycles. The Liberals have the Jon Stewart media to ensure a Republican compromise.

Anyone paying attention would see that BamaKennedy’s administration is Clintons third administration. Rahm is back, so is Panetta, and on and on it goes.

Exactly. And it feels like it too - no peace, the country imploding, a crisis each week, scandals stuffed under the bulging mattress, the MSM spinning like a top, and the beast of communist healthcare rising from the dead...

There will either be a new type of Republican in 2010, or a new third party will emerge and the Pubbies will go the way of the Whigs. Pansy Graham (R-SC) will need a new home.

LOL!!! Leave it to lunatic liberals from the UK to define that at one time Obama was EVER in the center.

He might be smack dab in the center of Marxism or Maoism but not the ideals of Americanism.

The loss in solid Republican NY 23 should be investigated.

Pelosi’s crowing about that victory makes it seem likely Nanzi made a deal with Scozzafava to dropout and endorse the Dem.

Watch what happens next. Look for Dede to be given a federal job for her treason.

And look who is leading the so called 'loyal' opposition against these perverted socialists. The people and note the gutter slurs this punk president is calling them.

IMO this is about crushing the 'independent' middle class where the majority of the people live, work, and die. These perverts are attempting to unionize all of US in some form or fashion. Government at all levels is the largest UNION employer in this nation.

Those RHINOs are not going anywhere soon. They are just liberal lite and they are not about to give up their party circuits. Liberals know full well the high minded moderates despise the value voters just as much as they do. They want our votes while claiming to 'believe', and once they take that oath they can't wait to cut deals with their liberal good buddies.

Right now we have the lord McCain leadership. Since lord McCain is up for reelection, he has handed the baton off to let Graham be the face of the wheeler dealer with the liberals, so he can pass himself off as conservative for the next few months.

And I just can't wait for some loyal Republican to tell me I am the problem for not being loyal to the GOP 'big tent' that is now one big golden TARP.

Absolutely.

He was elected by the center because he was:

1-Black and

2-Seemingly benign. He never had to reveal who he really was to them.

His actions now reveal his socialism. Obama never really had his eyes on the "centre". They are capitalists, and, as such, have been his declared enemy all along.

What I took away from NY-23 is that we, the conservative activists across the country, may in fact have contributed to the election of the genuine (D) to this usually comfortable (R) seat.

What I don’t see a whole lot of people saying is that one year from now, that Congressman will no longer hold that seat, Doug Hoffman will. Had Scozzafava prevailed and won the seat, we would be hung with a (R) member who is somewhat to the left of the (D) she originally ran against. She would have held that seat for the rest of her life, voting with the left regardless of what letter followed her name.

Given the revulsion of the RNC, NRCC, et al., to ever challenge the principles of their candidates, she would have been very difficult to unseat as an incumbent. I’m pretty sure that she would have been even more valuable as a (R) voting with her than just another (D). Bi-partisanship and all that you understand.

Hoffman was able to collect a huge amount of money, national support, and name recognition that will enable him to hit the ground running, no pun intended, if he isn’t already. I hope that Congressman Owens hasn’t completely quit his day job.

I know if you bring up Hitler it means you lose but I’m sorry, I’ve got to say it:

It’s like saying “Hitler lost sight of his commitment to the safety of the Jews”.

For the last time time the little boy who occupies the White House is not a moderate; never has been, never will be.

The Government Run Media, along with Mr. “linguini spine” Steele, are pushing the fiction that Scuzzy was a moderate rather than the reality that sh is a far left liberal radical.

Instead the alleged leaders of the GOP help a democrat get elected.

In the end the lesson learned is voters don’t trust the leaders.

"Obama has lost sight of the centre"

He's too busy staring at his emperor's new clothes in the mirror. Self-absorbed.

Obama couldn’t find the center with both hands if it were stapled to his forehead.

He’s so far left that right guard won’t even work on him.
