US intelligence agencies had prior knowledge of Maj. Nidal Hasan's ties to global terror organization; not clear if military sources were informed

Ynet News Service Israel

US intelligence agencies knew Major Nidal Malik Hasan – who allegedly carried out the massacre at Fort Hood military base in Texas – tried to make contact with the al-Qaeda terror organization only several months prior to the shooting, the ABC network reported Monday, quoting security sources in Washington.

The incident that horrified the United States occurred last Thursday night. The gunman opened fire inside the infirmary waiting room at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, killing 13 soldiers who were in line to see the doctor. The gunman was intercepted by security forces at the base.

Initial investigation concluded that Hasan, who worked as a psychiatrist at the base, operated alone.

In the latest development, ABC network revealed that US intelligence sources were aware of the Muslim major's attempts to contact sources affiliated to al-Qaeda.

While it is not clear whether the military was informed of these attempts, a security source said that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) refused to release any intelligence they might have collected in connection with the shooter.

In Obama’s Army it is OK if a Terrorist joins and mass murders people.

Worst attack on US Army base inside America is on Obama’s watch, and while there was clear warning signs.

Wait, where are all those "Bush knew! Bush knew!" clymers? What about the detestable Michael Moore? Will we see him putting a clock on Odumbo while he cavorts in Copenhagen for the Chicago Olympics bid while his administration ignores a member of the Army trying to contact the enemy? Will the Jersey Hags run to the nearest microphone? And so on.

Terrorist forums gleefully praising him. They rarely claim resposibility.

And zer0 gave a shout out as one of his first response.

zer0 and the dems have until next summer to complete the destruction on the US economy. Then the election cycle begins, Unless stopped first, It looks to be our only hope.

Given the nature of this event, the publicity it has drawn, and how it would be viewed and taken in the much of the Islamic world, I disagree with your mention.....al Qaeda via bin Laden or a spokeperson would have claimed responsibility. The only question is whether such a claim of responsibility will be immediate or via another frakin’ video.

Apparently (And I no more write the articles I post than you do—And I don’t expect that Psion does either), ABC is reporting that Hasan “reached out” to Al Qaeda in recent months.

“tried to make contact with the al-Qaeda terror organization only several months prior to the shooting, the ABC network reported Monday, quoting security sources in Washington. “

It’s in the first paragraph.

I think the Daily Telegraph was the outlet for the report on Hasan's recent visitor. I'm also wondering if Hasan was meeting someone during his trips to that strip club.

It was that very morning. A dude with dark complexion, long dark hair and mustache, and Islamic dress. He never had visitors before.

That morning, visitor stayed about 5 minutes.

People on threads were speculating “Islamic last rites”.

This is not Al Quiada’s doing, it is our legislators. In this age of political correctness, we gave him access, we paid his salary, we sent him to school, we tip toed around him, we feared to question him, then we died. It was a waste, it was needless, and if we do not learn from this all those who died, will have died in vain. I am ashamed that our government bestows more rights on criminals and enemies than it does to protect the American people. I am beyond angry.

Sounds like alternate-lifestyle sexual encounter,,protected by Hate Speech legitimization (Jihad Watch commentators have some very unkind threads regarding this)

As such, does that conclusively prove a tie does it? Until further evidences are brought out publically, it al remains speculation. Again, my point was that if indeed al Qaeda was involved directly or indirectly with Hasan, they would invariably claim responsibility. The recruitment draw, among others things, would be too much of an incentive for al Qaeda to not proclaim responsibility.
