Report: CIA knew of Texas shooter's al-Qaeda ties
US intelligence agencies had prior knowledge of Maj. Nidal Hasan's ties to global terror organization; not clear if military sources were informed
US intelligence agencies knew Major Nidal Malik Hasan – who allegedly carried out the massacre at Fort Hood military base in Texas – tried to make contact with the al-Qaeda terror organization only several months prior to the shooting, the ABC network reported Monday, quoting security sources in Washington.
The incident that horrified the United States occurred last Thursday night. The gunman opened fire inside the infirmary waiting room at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, killing 13 soldiers who were in line to see the doctor. The gunman was intercepted by security forces at the base.
Initial investigation concluded that Hasan, who worked as a psychiatrist at the base, operated alone.
In the latest development, ABC network revealed that US intelligence sources were aware of the Muslim major's attempts to contact sources affiliated to al-Qaeda.
While it is not clear whether the military was informed of these attempts, a security source said that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) refused to release any intelligence they might have collected in connection with the shooter.

There are plenty of suspected AQ or their assitant organizations’ attacks for which there was no public claim of responsibility.
They do NOT “invariably” claim responsiblity.
And AQ is not a tightly run ship - it’s a bunch of loosely connected sub-orgs, cells and maybe lone actors who identify with AQ and maybe recieve tactical assistance directly or indirectly.

I think they were only ignored at a lower level, due to fear of being “bigoted”. I think he was actually more than tolerated - pushed - by higher levels.
This is not studidity that he wasn’t kicked out, it was treason.
People don’t need to be fired for this, they need to be indicted.

If there were any real investigative journalists, someone would have contacted people at the hospital to find out. Disguised voice, pixilated face, etc.

The London subway terrorist attack(s) come to mind here as with a number of other acts of terrorism that al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for using small groups and/or “lone actors.” You research much? Spare me the “What are you trying to do - push the lone nutcase crap?” because it fails miserably to counter the point I was making: until further evidences are produced there any talk of a “tie” or “tied” to al Qaeda is conjecture and proves not a damn thing.

I very likely did not get your point, and if my tone was harsh, I apologize. You could (have) explained yourself a bit more.
But if you advance your viewpoint, instead of just asserting that it is not possible to be any AQ connection, that would be good.

I haven’t slept or eaten well in days.
This is too freaking horrible. The tentacles of treason go far, very far.
Probably the Jamie Gorelik wall is still up blocking the transfer of crucial information between the agancies.
That we knew and did nothing is a bitter realization. If our leaders won't protect our servicemen on home turf why should we think they will be supported anywhere else?
