Politics: The House's shameful vote on the health care bill, made to minimize Democrats' political fallout, is bad enough. But the votes of two members in particular show why politicians these days warrant little trust.
Not only did the congressional leadership arrange for a Saturday night vote leading the Drudge Report to dub Rep. Nancy Pelosi "Sneaker of the House" but some freshly minted representatives from both parties appear to have broken their pacts with the voters.
Let's start with Bill Owens. He's the "moderate" Democrat who won the infamous N.Y.-23 congressional election last week after liberal Republican Dede Scozzafava dropped out and supported him rather than Conservative Party stalwart Doug Hoffman. Scozzafava's move likely cost the conservative the race.
Owens had come on strong by posturing as a moderate-to-conservative Democrat in a fairly conservative district. This could be seen in his stance on Congress' health care takeover, which he early on claimed to have major problems with.

Owens is out in a year and knows it - he doesn’t care what the voters want or think!
Considering that Cao voted against the ‘Stimulus’, would not support the Health Care bill as long as it funded abortion, never claimed to be anything approaching a conservative, and sure as heck never expected to win...
I think he’s doing ok, overall.
wow, major error
Rep Cao is said by article to be from Louisiana, not LA.
they need to pull this and fix
Hmm I thought I read he voted for the stimulus. I could be wrong though
I don’t think so (although I may be confused), I thought that the vote was unanimous against it.
or was the other report that he was from california wrong.
sorry dont know
He is from LA, New Orleans.
The larger problem for the current Congress is, how to convince constituents that this is something other than “business as usual.” If lots of people feel the way I do then the consensus next November will be to throw ALL of the bums out. If we can get across the idea that “incumbent” is just as dirty a word as “liberal” then we will bring some sanity back to the halls of both houses. In order to do that EVERYONE MUST GO!!!!! The sooner the better I say.

***As Politico.com points out, 31 of the 39 Democrats who opposed the health care bill represent red or purple districts that is, districts (like Owens’ 23rd) that voted for John McCain for president.***
These are the congressmen who were given a hall pass by Warden Pelosi.
One Congressional watch group, The Rothenburg Report, states that only 48 of the 435 seats are in play next November! 32 Ds and 16 Rs. I can’t find my notes right now on how these Ds voted.
