More or less "all clear" for right now. (1:40 p.m. local)

9 ROK fishing boats had to be evac-ed from the area.

This is the ROK island nearby where the dust-up occured two hours ago:

No need to wake Obozo.

Sweet dreams, imposter!

Seoul has to be the most strategically illogical location for a national capital on earth.

I take it NK is claiming 1-3 and that island at the top of B?

Further Update

S. Korean Joint Chief of Staffs said, "A N. Korean patrol boat violated Northern Limit Line at 6.3 miles to the east of Daechung Island, (intruding into S. Korean waters) by 0.7 mile. Our Navy repeatedly sent warning messages, which it ignored and continue to head southward. Our Navy sent a warning message that warning shots will be fired. When it did not relent, they fired warning shots according to rules of engagement. The N. Korea vessel fired directly at our patrol boat, which returned fire according to rules of engagement and repelled the N. Korean vessel. There were no casualties on the S. Korean side, but the N. Korean vessel returned to the North, heavily damaged in billowing smoke.

I think they are using the stick.

They are always doing something like this. Nothing new.

Nope. All of those colored and numbered islands west and south of the dotted line—including Gangwha (the big, light green one) as well as the little light green one above it, are ROK claimed and occupied territory, all firmly garrisoned with ROK Marines, and or Navy, Army. Obama’s friend Kim Jong il doesnt dare attempt to take those back. They are fighting over the sea boundaries. Correct me if I am wrong, TLR.

Based on this, of course, then, ROK sets the NLL(Northern Line Limit) line to be 7 miles due east of their Daechung Island. And the norks came in by over about 7/10ths of a mile. One can clearly see the NLL line, east of that (dark green) island, separating ROK and DPRK, on the map above.

And of course, for the other perspective from Pyongyang, here is THEIR take of where the lines are. Note Daecheon Island will show as Taechon island, on the left:

I understood that.

What I was asking about was the boundary of the NK claim and was merely guessing at the list I mentioned.

You are correct. S. Korean military is now on guard for any further provocation from sea, land, or air.

N. Korea said about a week ago that, if U.S. does not respond to their suggestion, they will go their own way. I think this clash is part of 'going their own way' scenario. I have a feeling that this won't be the end. There will be more to come soon, if Chia Head sticks to his usual MO, in which he won't stop until he makes a big splash. If this provocation stirred panic among S. Korea and its allies, they won't need further provocation. However, these days, this one alone would not rattle anybody. So I expect there is more to come. They want to get inside the head of Zero, forcing him to cave.

What DPRK claim is in post #52.

Of course, you will see they claim areas skillfully carved around those occupied South Korean islands, and then there is one little island (Yonpyong) Yeonpyeong (aka the little blue island) that the Norks cut in half clearly!

And put on display for thousands of curious Japanese civilians on some nice days to walk through the entire hull of the sunken craft, including display of seized DPRK goods on board, like magazines, cigarettes, etc.

What will be fun to see is if they come and make a statement about it at the Panumunjom JSA area with military officers from both sides meeting. Which will be a farce.

Because already months ago, they had their temper tantrum, wanted to make Obama get the squirts, and abrogated their participation in the 1953 Armistace and all of those procedures set up for grievances.

If North Korea shows up at some UN sanctioned DPRK/ROK discussion over this, it will show they were just talk and never DID leave the Armistace Arrangement.

You had better tune to Pyongyang radio today and tomorrow. I think N. Korean have interesting things to say. Of course, that stocky Ajumma will announced it in a typical exaggerated tone.

Yeah, Ajumma with PMS will be on there in a rant, big time. 657khz.

By the way, remember THIS from just six months ago!!? (If they come to a bargaining table, there is no bargaining table, because they already overturned it, defacto they are already back to full war):

By Simon Martin (AFP) – May 26, 2009 SEOUL (AFP) — North Korea said Wednesday it was abandoning the truce that ended the Korean war and warned it could launch a military attack on the South, two days after testing an atomic bomb for the second time. The announcement came amid reports that the secretive North, which outraged the international community with its bomb test Monday, was restarting work to produce more weapons-grade plutonium. Defying global condemnation, the regime of Kim Jong-Il said it could no longer guarantee the safety of US and South Korean ships off its west coast and that the Korean peninsula was veering back towards war. The White House said it viewed Pyongyang's threats as "saber-rattling and bluster" that would only deepen its isolation, with spokesman Robert Gibbs saying that "threats won't get North Korea the attention it craves."
